Which room to book at The Pilgrm
The Comfy. At about 14 square metres it is the only category with a king or super-king bed and the only one with floor left over once a suitcase is open. The hotel's own room page says it is the one to book if you have luggage or will be sharing, and in February it cost 20 pounds a night more than a Snug.

Why this one
The ladder is short and the steps are small in money and large in use. The hotel sells five categories and they differ by floor area and bed, not by finish: every room has the same private shower room, the same organic cotton mattress and Egyptian cotton sheets, the same Marshall speaker, and nearly the same list of things it does not have: the Bunk alone loses the television and the safe. The Bunk at 7 square metres is two stacked singles with no television; the Nook is a single or small double for one adult; the Snug at 12 square metres has a 135 by 190 centimetre mattress, which is a standard double; the Comfy at 14 has a 150 by 200 centimetre king or super-king. For 9 to 11 February 2027 the prepaid rates ran 159, 174, 194, 199 and 219 pounds a night, so the whole ladder from bottom to top is 60 pounds, and the step that matters, Snug to Comfy, is 20.
That 20 pounds buys two square metres and a bed that is 15 centimetres wider and 10 longer, and it is the difference between a room for sleeping and a room you can stand in with a case open. The hotel says as much on the Comfy page, calling it the one to book if you have luggage or will be sharing. Below the Comfy the categories trade floor for money in amounts too small to make the trade worthwhile for two people; above it there is nothing, because the Comfy is the top of the house. No category is sold with a stated view or floor, and there are no suites.
- Ask for
- Ask for a room at the back of the building, away from London Street, and ask at booking rather than at the café counter, because which side you get depends on what is empty that night. Guest feedback puts the quieter nights at the rear; the hotel itself publishes nothing on the point. If stairs are a problem, ask for a low floor; no room has step-free access and the house runs over three floors and five wings. If you want a super-king rather than a king, say so, because the Comfy is sold as either.
- Avoid
- Skip the SNUG NO VIEW rate unless the saving is bigger than the 5 pounds a night it was in February and the 10 it was in April; the hotel's own description says it is a Snug minus the view, and ask what the window looks on to before you take it. Skip the Bunk for two adults unless you are friends who can share a ladder, and skip the Nook if you have more than a cabin bag. Do not book on the lead-in prices printed on the rooms pages, Snug from 129 pounds and Comfy from 159, because they are annual lows rather than the rate for your dates.

Our verdict
The design budget went into the building here, and the savings came off the rate. Book a Comfy, ask for the back of the house, and accept that the room is for sleeping.
