Which room to book at Rhinoceros Roma
The Suite Apartment Double. At 46 to 67 square metres it is the first category where the sitting room is a room rather than a sofa at the end of the bed, and for 9 to 11 February 2027 it was 600 euros a night prepaid against 420 for the 37 square metre Superior: 43 per cent more for up to 30 square metres more and a kitchen you can cook in without standing on the bed.

Why this one
The four sizes the hotel's own site names, 37, 41, 47 and 68 square metres, become seven bookable configurations, because the Deluxe and the Suite are each sold twice, once with a king bed and once with a single French bed at the same price, and a Studio with two French beds shares the Superior's 37 square metres and its 420 euro rate. Above the Superior the booking page gives ranges rather than sizes: Deluxe 41 to 62, Suite 46 to 67, Master 68 to 78. The Suite Apartment Double is the pick because it is the first category whose range starts above 45 square metres, which in an apartment with a full kitchen is the point at which the sitting room stops being the corridor to it. For those February dates the step from Superior to Suite was 420 to 600 euros a night on the prepaid rate and 525 to 750 on the Flexible rate, so the ratio holds at about 43 per cent whichever way you pay.
Above the Suite the ladder is one rung, the Master at 852 euros, 42 per cent more again, and the only apartment sold with a named window: the Temple of Hercules Victor, the round temple the hotel's own suite copy still calls Vesta. Every other category carries the label Ancient Rome View, which that same copy expands to the Arch of Janus, San Giorgio al Velabro, the temple or the Palatine, so the label promises a window without saying which. For 20 to 22 April 2027 the Suite was 788 euros prepaid against 560 for the Superior, the same step of about 41 per cent in a dearer month.
- Ask for
- Ask for an apartment whose windows give onto the Arch of Janus or San Giorgio al Velabro rather than onto one of the two internal light wells, which the hotel calls the courtyards of the sun and the moon. Ask to be a floor or two below the roof, which its listings give over to music twice a week. Ask whether the bathroom has a window, and if you take the Master, which of its 68 to 78 square metres you are getting.
- Avoid
- Avoid the two Single categories unless you are travelling alone: the Suite Single carries the same size range as the Suite Double and the Deluxe Single a narrower one than the Deluxe Double, at exactly the same price. Avoid the Studio if you want one bed, since the hotel sells it with two French beds. Avoid three in one apartment if you can: the extra bed is a futon by guest account, so ask what it costs. Avoid the prepaid rate for dates that might move; it carries a 100 per cent fee for any cancellation.
Suites against rooms
The Master Suite is a real step rather than a label: 68 to 78 square metres, a king bed and the one named view in the building, the Temple of Hercules Victor, at 852 euros a night prepaid on the February dates against 600 for the Suite, and 1,088 against 788 in April. One package exists only from the Suite upwards. The FOROF Unique Experience, 675 euros a night for the Suite and 959 for the Master in February, bundles a guided visit to the FOROF archaeological site on Trajan's Forum, with the coloured marbles of the Basilica Ulpia, plus a welcome gift, a farewell gift, an upgrade subject to availability and the bakery basket, paid at the hotel and cancellable until a week before arrival. Rome at your own Pace, sold on every category, adds an upgrade subject to availability, a stocked personal bar and use of the hotel's two-seat electric car, subject to slots, for 499 euros a night on the Superior against 420 prepaid.

Our verdict
Book it for the building. Twenty-four Nouvel apartments with kitchens, a free gallery underneath and Retrobottega on the roof, on a street with the Arch of Janus at the end of it. Take the Suite, expect no spa and no breakfast room, and eat out most nights.
