Which room to book at Hotel Quinta do Furão
The Premium Room. Quinta do Furão's 65 rooms, renovated in 2020, come in seven categories, and the cheaper ones differ less in size than in what you see from the balcony. The Premium Room is the first rung that pairs real space, 27 m², with a balcony on both the sea and the mountains, and it has a Nespresso machine, which the Classic lacks. It costs €295 a night for two in June, with breakfast, €19 more than the Classic and €10 more than the Superior.

With breakfast. The cheapest way to wake up to the sea, in a light, warm-toned room with a shower, central heating and tea and coffee things, but no Nespresso machine.

Why this one
Quinta do Furão sells seven categories, and every room has a private bathroom with a shower, central heating, bathrobes, a minibar and tea and coffee things. The three lower rungs are close in size, 22 to 24 m², and what changes is the outlook. The Twin Vineyards rooms look over the garden and the vines, the Classic over the sea and the garden, and the Superior straight out to sea, with a balcony or terrace and a Nespresso machine. From the Premium Room to the Suite, every category has a balcony that takes in the sea and the mountains.
The Premium Room is the pick because it is the first room where you get both: 27 m², a quarter more space than the Classic, and a balcony on the north coast's cliffs and the mountains behind, which is the view the quinta is built around. It costs €295 a night for two in June with breakfast, €19 more than the Classic and €10 more than the Superior. Every rate includes breakfast, and half board adds about €45 per person per night, which makes sense here, where every other dinner is a drive away. The Junior Suite, with an open-plan living area and the garden added to the view, costs only €9 more on the same night, so price both.
- Ask for
- A Premium Room by name, and price the Junior Suite for the same dates: on Tuesday 8 June 2027 it costs €9 a night more for 32 m², an open-plan living area and a balcony on the sea, the mountains and the garden.
- Avoid
- The Twin Vineyards rooms if the sea is the point of the trip: their balconies face the garden and the vines rather than the coast.
Suites against rooms
The Junior Suite (32 m², with an open-plan living area) and the Suite (35 m², with a sitting room separate from the bedroom) share the hotel's widest view, sea, mountains and garden, from a balcony, and both sleep three. The Villa is the one for four: two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette and the hotel's only air conditioning.

Our verdict
The quinta to book when the walks are the point: a vineyard on the cliff, the levadas and Pico Ruivo within half an hour, and a fire and a pool to come back to. Check availability for a Premium Room.
