Why this one
Reid's Palace sells eight categories, from the Superior Room to the two Signature Suites, in the main building of 1891 and the 1960s Garden Wing, and every rate includes breakfast. The first two are close in size: the Superior is 23 to 26 m² and the Deluxe Sea View 26 to 31 m², both with a furnished balcony and a marble bathroom. What changes is the outlook. The Superior faces the gardens with a partial sea view; the Deluxe Sea View looks straight out over the bay, from a larger balcony. For one night on Tuesday 8 June 2027 they were €824 and €974 for two.
The Deluxe Sea View is the one to book because the view of the bay is what the hotel is for, and it is the cheapest way to have it. Above it, the Family Room adds space but faces the gardens; the Deluxe Junior Suite, 37 m², adds a sitting area for another €280 a night; and the Superior Suite, 43 m², mostly brings a separate living area. The Deluxe Suite, 53 m², is the first category where every bathroom has a separate walk-in shower.
- Ask for
- A Deluxe Sea View Room with a bathtub and a separate walk-in shower, which some of them have; the rest have the shower over the bath. Ask when you book and again at check-in. If you want the separate shower guaranteed, the Deluxe Suite, 53 m², has one in every suite, with views of the sea or the sea and the gardens.
- Avoid
- The Superior Room if the sea is the point, since its view is partial. The Family Room unless you need the beds, since it faces the gardens from a patio in the Garden Wing.
Suites against rooms
There are 14 suites and 2 Signature Suites. The Superior Suite, about 43 m², mostly adds a separate living area, with a large balcony facing the sea; the Deluxe Suite, about 53 m², has an oversized balcony and a bathtub with a separate walk-in shower. At the top, the Atlantica Suite on the seventh floor, where George Bernard Shaw wintered, has a kitchenette, and the Winston Churchill Suite, named after the hotel's most famous guest, can be joined to a Deluxe Junior Suite. Both look straight out to sea and sell on a Signature Experience rate, at about €4,100 to €4,200 a night for two in June 2027.

Our verdict
Funchal's grand hotel, on its cliff since 1891, for anyone who wants the terrace, the gardens and the bay more than a beach. Check availability for the Deluxe Sea View Room.
