Which room to book at Casa da Companhia

The King Suite Sé Cathedral View Balcony. It is the only suite whose name promises both a balcony and the cathedral, and at 40 to 44 square metres it has the tightest size range of the four suite categories. If that is too much, the King Premium with the same view, at 30 to 31 square metres, keeps the outlook and gives up the space.

Why this one

In a 16th-century house divided into 40 rooms and suites, most categories are sold as a spread of sizes rather than a size. The King Suite runs from 36 to 50 square metres and the Twin Suite from 37 to 48, so the name alone does not tell you which room you will get. The King Suite Sé Cathedral View Balcony is 40 to 44, and its name promises a balcony and the cathedral, which makes it the one suite you can book without a floor plan.

The ladder is shaped by the building rather than by a price list. The sizes overlap so much that a large King Premium, at up to 42 square metres, beats a small King Suite, and what the names reliably add is a stated view on the three Sé categories or, at the top, the King 1 Bedroom Suite's freestanding bath and walk-in shower. Ask about noise: the cathedral lies across Rua das Flores from the hotel, and the hotel, which calls its garden the calm outlook, does not say which side these rooms are on. The prices on this ladder are for 9 to 11 February 2027, per night for two with taxes and fees, so compare the step from the King Premium with the Sé view to the suite on your own dates before you choose.

Ask for
Ask for the room number and its size when you book, and whether your cathedral-view room faces Rua das Flores. With a child aged 4 to 13, ask about the two Junior Suite Doubles in the King Suite category, the rooms the hotel's own room page names for an extra bed, and get the nightly charge in writing.
Avoid
Avoid booking the King Premium blind if space matters: it runs from 26 to 42 square metres and the name will not tell you which. Light sleepers should not book a Sé-view room without asking which side it faces; a garden-facing room, the outlook the hotel itself calls calm, is the quieter bet.

Suites against rooms

Four suite categories sit above the rooms, and only one of them names its view. The King Suite, 36 to 50 square metres, is the category the hotel's room page offers families: two of its rooms, which the hotel calls Junior Suite Doubles, take an extra bed for a child aged 4 to 13, and a cot for under-fours is free, subject to availability. The Twin Suite, 37 to 48, is the two-bed version, with no stated view. The King 1 Bedroom Suite, 47 to 63, is the biggest, with a living area, a freestanding bath and a walk-in shower, which makes it the suite for a long stay. For a short one, the Sé-view suite remains the one to take, because the window is the reason to be on Rua das Flores.

Our verdict

The hotel in this edit that gives up the least: central, with two pools and a spa, and priced under the grand houses. It is the sensible choice rather than the memorable one.
