Porto and the Douro offer two kinds of spa stay. Up the valley, Six Senses Douro Valley is a destination spa, about 80 minutes by road from central Porto, where the estate becomes the whole holiday. The wellness carries on past the spa door: forest paths and terraced vineyard across about 20 acres, an organic kitchen garden that supplies the restaurants, an Earth Lab where the hotel makes its own products and an Alchemy Bar for mixing scrubs from the garden. Apart from the pool, the spa is for guests of 14 and over. Plan on two or three nights: the drive from central Porto takes about 80 minutes, and once you arrive the estate is everything.

The cheapest category sold with the Douro as its view, 46 to 50 m², so between treatments the river, not forest and vines, is outside the window.
The Yeatman matches the valley's spa room for room: its Wine Spa has ten treatment rooms, as many as Six Senses Douro Valley, working with Natura Bissé, Vinoble and Ilá products. Around them are a sauna, a hammam, a Roman bath, a gym and an indoor infinity pool held at about 30 degrees, open every day from 08:00 to 20:00. The spa was renovated and reopened in July 2023, and from April to October the decanter-shaped outdoor pool adds a second swim, from 09:00 to 20:00, for hotel guests only.
What lifts a spa day here is the house's wine: the treatments include barrel bath immersions, and from Tuesday to Saturday Ricardo Costa's two-star Origins menu comes with pairings from the cellar. Children may join an adult in the indoor pool; the spa itself is for 16 and over.

The bath comes with the view: a deep soaking tub whose shutters open onto the river and the old town, a walk-in shower, and a furnished terrace.
Vila Foz Hotel & Spa pairs its spa with the sea: the Atlantic promenade is across the road. The spa has a heated indoor pool, a sauna, a Turkish bath, a cold plunge and a gym, all open from 09:00 to 20:00, with an outdoor relaxation area on the garden. It runs treatments and day programmes such as the Half Day Retreat, nobody under 16 is admitted, and guests single out how calm the pool is.
The rhythm suits a short break in the wet months: a walk along the seafront, an afternoon between the heat rooms and the cold plunge, then dinner in Arnaldo Azevedo's one-star dining room, open Tuesday to Saturday, without leaving the building.

The cheapest category that guarantees the Atlantic, from a small balcony, so the sea stays in view between the spa and dinner.
The Grand Bleu Spa fills 350 square metres of the 1923 building: a heated experience pool, as the hotel calls it, a hammam, a dry sauna, three treatment rooms, one of them for couples, and a Technogym gym open around the clock. For guests the water area and the gym cost nothing; treatments and other spa services are charged.
That makes for an easy spa habit in the middle of the city: out on foot to the Clérigos Tower, São Bento or the Bolhão market, back for the hammam before dinner. Le Monument, starred in the 2026 Michelin guide, cooks dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, so a spa afternoon and a tasting menu fit into the same evening without a taxi.

Casa da Companhia fits a proper spa into a 16th-century house on Rua das Flores. The spa is by L'Occitane, with treatment rooms, a sauna and a Turkish bath you book at reception, and a heated indoor pool open daily from 07:30 to 20:00. On the roof a small pool looks at the cathedral, a plunge for a hot afternoon rather than a swim, and guests single out the two pools on warm days.
It earns its place by where it puts the spa: São Bento station is five minutes on foot and Praça da Ribeira seven, so a morning in the old town and an hour in the Turkish bath fit into the same day. The spa itself keeps shorter hours than the pool, 11:00 to 19:30, and 10:00 to 18:30 on Sundays. The circuit and the gym are for over-16s.

Can children use the hotel spas in Porto?

At The Yeatman, children may swim in the indoor pool with an adult, and the spa is for 16 and over. Vila Foz Hotel & Spa admits nobody under 16 to its spa, pool, heat rooms or gym, and Casa da Companhia's spa circuit and gym are for over-16s. How far is Six Senses Douro Valley from Porto?
It is 82 minutes by road from Avenida dos Aliados, out on the A4, and the hotel's own transfer is 295 euros per car each way for two. By train, the Douro line reaches Régua a little under two hours out of Porto, and the hotel is a short taxi ride from the station. Once there, you will walk nowhere but the estate, so plan most dinners in or hire a car. Treat it as a stay of two or three nights, not a day trip.
Is a spa break in Porto worth it in winter?
