Why this one

The reason to stay here is the river, and the Superior Room with River View is the cheapest room that comes with it. It is 34 to 38 square metres, much the size of the city-view entry room, and it sits on the corners of the building on the fifth, sixth and seventh floors, which the hotel calls its most private. In mid-February 2027 it was 808 euros a night against 663 for the Santa Catarina Superior, non-refundable with breakfast; for 20 to 22 April 2027 it was 1,024 against 850. You get a queen bed, a shower rather than a bath, and either a French balcony or one you can stand on.

Above it, the ladder is shaped by which way the windows face, not by floor area. The Junior Suite at 961 euros and the Bica Suite at 999 are larger and dearer, and the hotel sells neither with a river view; the Bica Suite earns its place as the family suite, with three bathrooms. The river comes back with the Premium Suites on the sixth floor at 1,233 euros, then the 80 square metre Salavisa Suite at 1,445, the first with a transfer and butler service listed as included, then the Royal Suites at 2,550. The 231 square metre Royal Wing joins the two Royal Suites, the Yellow Room and the library into one private wing.

Ask for
The sixth or seventh floor, and a river-view Superior with a real balcony rather than a French one; the hotel sells both under one name, so ask when you book. This category has a shower only. If you want a bath and the river, the Premium Suite with the separate sitting room has one; some Santa Catarina Superiors and Junior Suites have a bath, but not the view. For an accessible room, the hotel lists one Santa Catarina Superior and the Salavisa Suite.
Avoid
The Junior Suite and the Bica Suite if the river is why you came: both cost more than the river-view Superior and neither is sold with a river view. And a Royal Suite booked blind: the category covers the King and the Queen, and only the King is described with a river balcony, so ask which you are getting.

Suites against rooms

The Premium Suites are two different rooms under one name, both on the sixth floor and both over the river: one with a separate sitting room, two bathrooms, a bath, a queen bed and a French balcony, the other open-plan, with a king bed and a private balcony facing the Tagus. To stand outside with the river in front of you, ask for the second.

The Salavisa Suite, about 80 square metres on the fourth floor, adds a dining room, a closet and a balcony over Praça de Santa Catarina, and it is the first category where the hotel lists a transfer and butler service as included, which is worth confirming when you book. At 1,445 euros against the Premium Suite's 1,233 on the same February dates, it is the better buy if a suite is the plan and a balcony over the square in summer does not worry you. The Royal Suites are where the palace decoration lives, hand-painted silk panels and Rococo stucco in the Queen, carved wooden ceilings in the King; joined with the Yellow Room and the library they become the Royal Wing.
