London Luton lounges: both of them, priced and compared

Luton has two lounges, both airside in the one terminal and both open to anyone flying from the airport, whatever the airline or fare. They cost almost the same, so the choice comes down to who you are travelling with and what time you fly. Here is each one, with the prices and hours the airport and the operator publish, and how to get the most from them.

The short answer

With children, pick My Lounge in the main departure hall: a family lounge, a games area, children's prices from £21.49 and an hour later closing, at 21:00. Without them, pick No1 Lounge by Gate 17: a tended bar, a hot buffet and runway views, from £38. Both take Priority Pass and LoungeKey, both let you in up to three hours before your flight, and both are best booked ahead.

No1 Lounge or My Lounge?

They are close on price: No1 from £38, My Lounge £37.99. No1 Lounge is the quieter, more adult room, with a fully tended bar, seasonal dishes served buffet-style and runway views; it does not cater specifically for children and may seat them in a family space. My Lounge is built for groups and families, with a family lounge, games areas and table service for its hot food, and it stays open until 21:00, an hour after No1 closes. Both are operated by No1 Lounges, both let you in three hours before your flight, and both refuse fancy dress, sports shirts and beach flip-flops at the door.

Is a lounge worth it at Luton?

On an early flight, often yes. Both lounges open at 04:00, and for about £38 you get breakfast, coffee and a drink, a seat and wifi for up to three hours before your flight, with food and drinks included. Add the free Prebook Security slot, available for anyone arriving at security between 03:00 and 15:00, and you can have a calm start without paying for Fast Track too.

Lounges for families

Yes, in both. My Lounge is the one to choose: children aged 2 to 11 pay £21.49, there is a family lounge and a games area, and the food is served to your table. In No1 Lounge, children aged 2 to 11 pay £20, must be accompanied at all times, and may be seated in a dedicated family space. Infants under 2 are free in both. Outside the lounges, the airport's family area with big-screen entertainment is near gates 1-6.

With Priority Pass, LoungeKey or DragonPass

Yes, at both lounges. No1 Lounges lets Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass cardholders reserve a space for as little as £6 a person, or walk in subject to space on the day. My Lounge takes all three; No1 Lounge lists Priority Pass and LoungeKey. On a busy summer morning, the reservation fee is the price of being sure of a seat.

When the lounge is full, or not for you

Both lounges control capacity and advise booking ahead, and No1 does not admit stag or hen parties. If you cannot get in, The Smithfield pub serves from the first flight to the last, Nolito does a proper Italian meal, and Black Sheep Coffee is the best coffee after security. After security the airport also has an Assisted Travel Lounge, with an adult changing room, shower and hoist, for passengers using its assistance service.
