Which room to book at Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo
The Prestige Room. Nothing below suite level at the Métropole is sold with a sea view, so the money is best spent on floor area, and the Prestige is 32 to 44 square metres against 22 to 27 in the entry room and 23 to 33 in the Deluxe, in the 2025 Garcia scheme rather than the 2004 one. If the sea is non-negotiable, skip the rooms altogether and go to the Deluxe Sea View Suite.

Why this one
The three room categories are close in outlook and far apart in size. Every one of them is sold over the city or the Allée de Toscane, and the hotel's own pages attach no sea view to any of them. So the argument is floor area. The Deluxe Premium Room is 22 to 27 square metres, the Deluxe 23 to 33, the Prestige 32 to 44: at the top of its range the Prestige is twice the entry room, and it carries the fabrics and stone the hotel is proudest of, hand-embroidered Colefax & Fowler and a Calacatta Borghini private bar. It is also one of the five categories in the 2025 Garcia scheme, so the extra space comes without the older fittings; the price difference over a Deluxe Premium Room is the only trade.
Above the rooms the ladder is shaped by the window, not the metreage. The three junior suites and the two suites below the Deluxe Sea View all sit between 39 and 58 square metres, and only one of them, the Prestige Junior Suite, even lists the sea as a possibility. The sea becomes a promise at the Deluxe Sea View Suite, 56 square metres on a high floor, and from there the categories climb by terrace: 10 square metres on the Prestige Suite, 110 on the Carré d'Or. If you are paying suite money for a view, the Deluxe Sea View is the first rung where the money buys one.
- Ask for
- Ask for a high floor facing the Casino gardens rather than the avenue de la Madone, and ask which scheme the room is in: the 2025 Garcia categories are the Deluxe Premium Room, the Prestige Room, the Deluxe Premium and Prestige Junior Suites and the Deluxe Premium Suite, on the second and third floors; the rest is 2004. Ask what is being worked on during your dates. If you have taken a Prestige Junior Suite for the sea, ask them to confirm in writing that yours has it, because the category is sold with three possible outlooks.
- Avoid
- The Deluxe Premium Room if you need to open a suitcase and walk round it, because 22 square metres is the floor of the ladder. Any ground-floor allocation, which the Deluxe Junior Suite and the Azur Suite can be, if height matters more to you than the garden. And the Azur Suite in Grand Prix week unless the circuit is why you came, because the hotel's own page puts the track in its window.
Suites against rooms
Two suites are worth singling out. The Deluxe Sea View Suite is the first category in the building sold with the Mediterranean guaranteed, 56 square metres on a high floor with the Casino and the Odyssey pool beneath it, and the same floor area as the Deluxe Suite next to it on the ladder; the difference is the window. The other is the Carré d'Or, 190 square metres of which 110 is terrace, on the top floor with the Casino, its gardens and the sea, on a floor of six suites the hotel will privatise whole. It is the suite in the photographs, and the only one in the building where the outside space is bigger than the inside.

Our verdict
The most personal of Monaco's grand hotels and the one with the best pool terrace, for couples who prefer discretion to display.
