Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport (QSR)

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento Airport (Pontecagnano)

Salerno's airport, at Pontecagnano south-east of the city, reopened to scheduled flights in 2024 and is run by GESAC, the company that runs Naples. It is the closest airport to the eastern end of the Amalfi Coast, and a small one: short walks and a handful of flights a day. Aeroitalia based an aircraft here in 2026, Wizz Air has announced three new routes for summer 2027, and for the whole of November 2026, while Naples rebuilds its runway, Salerno takes some of Naples' flights. Here is how to get from the plane to Amalfi, Minori, Ravello or Positano.

The 30-second version

Take the Salerno Airlink bus from in front of the terminal to Salerno railway station, about 30 minutes, €8 on board with no surcharge. From the square by the station, Travelmar's ferries run all year to Amalfi in 35 minutes (€12), Minori in 40 (€10) and Positano in 70 (€17), and SITA buses run along the coast road. In November 2026, while Naples is closed, a direct bus also links the airport with Napoli Centrale for €12. Note that the terminal is closed from 22:30 to 05:00, so this is not an airport for waiting overnight.

Terminals

Terminal

Every scheduled flight, among them Aeroitalia, which based an aircraft here in 2026, and from June 2027 Wizz Air

One small terminal with check-in, a café and convenience shop, security and the gates. The Airlink bus stops in front of the terminal entrance. GESAC opened a new General Aviation terminal on 14 July 2026; from November 2026, while Naples is closed, it also handles commercial flights, so check which terminal your flight uses.

Landing to kerb

  1. Passport control, if you come from outside Schengen

Flights from outside the Schengen area go through passport control, where non-EU visitors are registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System: on a first entry you give your passport, a photo and fingerprints, free, and the record lasts three years. Children under 12 are not fingerprinted.

  2. Meeting a pre-booked driver

With a small terminal, finding your driver is quick. A private transfer is the easiest way to Ravello and Scala, which sit above the coast road, and to Positano at the far end of the coast.

  3. The Airlink bus to Salerno station

Busitalia Campania's Salerno Airlink leaves from in front of the terminal for Salerno railway station in about 30 minutes. A single ticket is €8 for anyone aged 6 and over, the same price from the driver, who takes cards; one bag up to 55x40x20 cm is included and each extra bag is €5. Departures follow the flights, so check Busitalia's timetable for your day.

  4. On to the coast from Salerno station

From the Airlink stop, walk to the Travelmar quay at Piazza della Concordia, by the station, for the ferries to Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano. SITA Sud buses also run from Salerno along the coast road through Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori and Minori to Amalfi.

  5. Taxis

GESAC states that flat taxi fares apply on urban and suburban routes from the airport. Agree the fare with the driver before you set off.

Kerb to gate

  1. How early

The terminal opens at 05:00, and each airline sets its own check-in times, so check yours. The first Airlink from Salerno station usually leaves at 05:30 or 05:45, and its times follow the day's flights, so check Busitalia's timetable for your date.

  2. Getting there

From the coast, the Travelmar ferry or the SITA bus takes you to Salerno station, then the Airlink to the terminal. From Napoli Centrale, Italo's fast trains reach Salerno in 36 minutes, and in November 2026 the direct bus from Piazza Garibaldi reaches the airport in about an hour and 15 minutes.

  3. Security and Fast Track

The airport offers a Fast Track through security among its passenger services. Liquids in hand luggage go in containers of 100 ml or less, up to one litre in total.

  4. Where to wait

Gran Caffè Costa d'Amalfi in the check-in area serves coffee and sells newspapers and essentials from about 05:30 to 22:00.

November 2026: Salerno stands in for Naples

Some are. GESAC closes Naples Airport from 1 to 30 November 2026 to rebuild its runway, and some airlines move their flights to Salerno for the month, so check the airport code on your booking: QSR for Salerno, NAP for Naples. GESAC and Busitalia Campania run a bus between Piazza Garibaldi in Naples (Napoli Centrale) and Salerno airport, eight a day each way, timed to the flights, for €12 paid on board by card, about an hour and 15 minutes. The Airlink to Salerno station runs more often in November 2026, and commercial flights that month also use the new terminal GESAC opened in July 2026.

Who flies here

Aeroitalia based an aircraft at Salerno from May 2026 under a partnership with GESAC, flying to Milan Malpensa twice a day on weekdays, Genoa and Trieste twice a week and Turin three times a week, with 100-seat Embraer 190s. Wizz Air adds Budapest, Tirana and Warsaw from 6 June 2027, and plans to build up to six Salerno routes. Other airlines fly seasonally and the list changes each year, so check the airport's routes page for the current season.

Insider notes

By sea. The Travelmar quay at Piazza della Concordia is beside Salerno station, where the Airlink stops, and the ferries run all year: Maiori 30 minutes and Minori 40, both €10; Amalfi 35 minutes, €12; Positano 70 minutes, €17. A bag costs €3 on board, and tickets are sold online or at the quay office from 20 minutes before departure.

For several days of buses, SITA's COSTIERASITA ticket costs €10 for 24 hours of unlimited travel between Salerno, Vietri, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Ravello, Scala, Conca dei Marini, Praiano, Positano and Sorrento. Write your name and date of birth on it and validate it on the first bus.

The Airlink is its own ticket: regional bus tickets and passes are not valid on it.

Delays and your rights

Flights from Salerno fall under EU rules: arrive three hours or more late and you can claim €250 to €600 depending on distance, unless the airline proves extraordinary circumstances, and after a long delay the airline owes you meals, and a hotel if you are moved to the next day. Assistance for reduced mobility is free: book it with your airline at least 48 hours ahead.

Getting to our hotels

Salerno suits the eastern half of our ten best. Hotel Santa Lucia in Minori is a 40-minute ferry from the quay by Salerno station; Hotel Marina Riviera is a few minutes' walk from the ferry pier in Amalfi; Caruso in Ravello and Palazzo Pascal in Scala are a short SITA bus or taxi ride up from Amalfi. For Borgo Santandrea and Monastero Santa Rosa, between Amalfi and Conca dei Marini, and for Praiano and Positano further west, a private transfer is simplest. Our transfers page will have the timed and priced way to each hotel.
