The take on Hotel Santa Lucia
Hotel Santa Lucia stands on Via Alfonso Gatto in the middle of Minori, the small town about 4 km by road east of Amalfi, beyond Atrani, and the Sammarco family has run it for more than 50 years. It is a four-star of 25 rooms on three floors with a sun terrace on the roof, and its back looks on to the excavated first-century AD Roman villa at the heart of the town, closed to visitors for restoration since August 2025. Inside, the look is the coast's own: hand-painted ceramics, Vietri majolica floors in the De Luxe and Luxury rooms and homemade limoncello at the bar.
The rooms are compact and traditional, tiled in ceramics, air-conditioned and soundproofed. The Economy rooms, 10 to 14 m², have a window rather than a balcony. Every Classic room, 16 m² as a double or a triple and 17 to 20 m² as a family room for two adults and two children, has a balcony with a table and chairs. The Superior rooms add Sky TV, bathrobes and slippers: a few at the back, 16 m² and given on request, open on to a terrace over the Roman villa, while those on the street side are larger at 20 m² and take an extra bed. The De Luxe, 25 m² with a king-size bed under a vaulted ceiling, and the 35 m² Mini Suite, with a sofa bed and two small balconies, have the most room.
The reason it is here is what about €225 a night buys in June: an Economy double with the buffet breakfast included, on level ground in a town where the beach is three minutes' walk away, the ferry pier four and the SITA buses to Amalfi and Salerno stop two minutes from the door. A lift serves every floor and two rooms are adapted for wheelchair users, rare on a coast of steps. Minori's beach is sand and pebbles; the hotel's partner lido, a few metres away, rents an umbrella and two loungers for €20 to €40 a day. In the evening the Garum restaurant serves local fish à la carte from 19:00 to 22:00, indoors or on a 40-seat terrace, and half board is offered.
The trade is space and quiet. Rooms are small, there is no pool, only the sun terrace with loungers and a bar from May to October, and the hotel stands on the coast road, so rooms on the street side hear the traffic. Book it as a well-priced, walkable base for the buses and ferries of the central coast, and for families or anyone who finds steps hard; skip it if you want a big room or a pool.

Hotel Santa Lucia: the room to book, Superior Room
It is the step that changes the stay: the Superior rooms at the back open on to a terrace over the Roman villa and add Sky TV and bathrobes, for about €50 to €60 a night more than an Economy double, which has a window and no balcony.
- Ask for
- A Superior room at the back with the terrace over the Roman villa: the hotel assigns these on request, and they face away from the coast road. The villa has been closed for restoration since August 2025, so the view may include the works.
- Avoid
- An Economy room if you want outdoor space (no balcony, and two are on the lobby floor), and the Luxury room if steps are a problem: it is in an annex about 50 metres away, up about 20 steps.

Where Hotel Santa Lucia is, and getting there
Hotel Santa Lucia is at Via Alfonso Gatto 44, in the centre of Minori, on the level ground where the SS163 coast road passes through the town; the Roman villa lies directly behind it, though the site has been closed to visitors for restoration since August 2025. Everything in town is close and flat: the SITA bus stops for Amalfi and Salerno are 2 minutes on foot, the beach 3, the ferry pier 4 and the Basilica of Santa Trofimena 5. Travelmar ferries call at the pier all year, for Amalfi, Positano and Salerno. Off-peak drives: Amalfi 4 minutes, Ravello's Villa Rufolo 9 to 15, the Path of the Gods trailhead at Bomerano 21 to 34, Salerno station 25 to 36, Positano 34 to 39, Pompeii 42, Sorrento 46 to 55 and Naples airport 66 to 76. The hotel's indoor garage costs €22 a night, and cars may stop at the door only to load and unload. Rooms on the street side face the coast road.
