Naples Airport (NAP) for the Amalfi Coast

Naples International Airport (Capodichino)

Naples International Airport sits at Capodichino, on the northern edge of the city, and it is the airport most visitors to the Amalfi Coast use. It handled 13.3 million passengers in 2025, with 41 airlines and 128 destinations from a single terminal. The coast is a drive round the bay and over the mountains, or a hydrofoil from the city's port. What matters is choosing between the fixed-fare taxi, the ferry and the bus or train, and knowing that the terminal closes every night and for all of November 2026.

The 30-second version

For a stay on the coast, the simplest arrival is a taxi or a pre-booked driver: the City of Naples sets fixed fares per car of €145 to Positano, €155 to Amalfi and €160 to Ravello, tolls extra; ask for the fixed fare before you set off. From April to early November, the scenic way is the Alibus (€5) or a €24 taxi to Molo Beverello, then the hydrofoil to Positano or Amalfi for about €32. Flying out, check-in opens two hours before departure, the Fast Track is €9 and the Pearl Lounge €44 (GESAC's price to 31 October 2026). The terminal closes nightly from 22:30 to 03:30, and from 1 to 30 November 2026 the airport is shut for runway works, with some flights moved to Salerno.

Landing to kerb

Every pick-up point, terminal by terminal
  1. Passport control, if you come from outside Schengen

Flights from the UK, the US and other non-Schengen countries go through passport control. Since 10 April 2026 every non-EU visitor is registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System: on a first entry you give your passport, a photo and fingerprints, free, and the record lasts three years; children under 12 are not fingerprinted. GESAC warns that non-EU passengers may wait longer than before. Travellers aged 14 and over with a chip passport can use the automatic e-gates where the Border Police direct them.

  2. Baggage and customs

Report a lost or damaged bag to your airline's handling agent before you leave the baggage hall. Arriving from the UK, the US or anywhere else outside the EU, you pass customs on the way out.

  3. Meeting a pre-booked driver

For our ten hotels a private transfer is the easy option: a driver who knows the coast road and each hotel's drop-off point saves a lot of navigating. Agree the meeting point in the arrivals hall when you book.

  4. The taxi rank

Licensed taxis wait in the lane in front of arrivals, and taxis for trips out of the city have their own lane next to the Pick-Up car park. Ask for the fixed fare (tariffa predeterminata) before the car moves; the driver cannot refuse it and must give you a receipt showing it before you set off: €24 to Molo Beverello for the ferries, €21 to Napoli Centrale, and from Naples €125 to Sorrento, €145 to Positano, €155 to Amalfi and €160 to Ravello, per car. The fixed fares include luggage, night and holiday supplements and the airport supplement; motorway tolls and a €5 supplement for a minivan (more than four passengers, or on request) are extra.

  5. The Alibus, to the station and the port

ANM's Alibus reaches Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale) in about 15 minutes and Molo Beverello, for the ferries, in about 35. Tickets are €5 from the machines on the arrivals ground floor or online. For a euro more, the shared taxi from the Pick-Up area, 100 metres from arrivals, runs to the station and the port for €6 a person with luggage, leaving 15 minutes after the first three passengers arrive.

  6. The coach to Sorrento

Curreri Viaggi runs eight coaches a day from the Tourist Bus parking to Sorrento station, via Pompei, Castellammare, Vico Equense and the Sorrento plain, from 09:00 to 19:30, about 75 minutes, for €13 booked online. The bus arrives ten minutes before departure; there is none on 1 January or 25 December. From Sorrento, SITA buses run along the coast road to Positano, Praiano and Amalfi.

Kerb to gate

  1. How early

Check-in desks open two hours before European flights and three hours before intercontinental ones, though each airline sets its own times. Curreri tells passengers to take its coach from Sorrento at least five hours before the flight, since summer traffic is slow; give a taxi or driver the same margin.

  2. Check-in and bag drop

Check-in is on the ground floor, by entrance number: 1 for British Airways, flydubai, Iberia, Turkish and Wizz Air; 2 for easyJet, ITA, Lufthansa, Austrian, SWISS and Volotea; 3 for Air France, KLM and Ryanair. With hand luggage only and a boarding pass on your phone, go straight up to security on the first floor.

  3. Security and the Fast Track

Security is on the first floor; scan your boarding pass to enter. The Fast Track lane costs €9, online or at the kiosk on the first floor before security, from 05:00 to 20:00. Liquids and creamy foods in hand luggage go in containers of 100 ml or less, up to one litre in total.

  4. Passport control on the way out

Flights to the UK, the US and other non-Schengen countries pass passport control after security, where the Entry/Exit System records your exit. Over-14s with a chip passport can use the e-gates. GESAC asks travellers to the UK with children, or with only a non-electronic passport, to arrive early.

  5. Where to wait

The boarding area has the restaurants and the shopping arcade on two floors, and the Pearl Lounge for anyone who pays. The shops close by 21:30 and the terminal at 22:30.

The hotel at Naples Airport

BenBo Bed and Boarding

For an early flight, a late landing or a long wait: the one we would book.

The only place to sleep at Naples airport itself, and it is a sleeping pod rather than a hotel room: private cabins with a bed and a desk, open around the clock, and bookable even for an hour on its own site. Since the terminal closes from 22:30 to 03:30, it is the answer for a dawn flight or a late landing when you would rather not drive to the coast in the dark. None of our ten is near the airport: the closest, Monastero Santa Rosa, is about 62 minutes by road, and the rest 66 to 76.

Each cabin is about 4 square metres with a single bed, and the 16 bathrooms, each with a shower, are shared.

The catch: closed every night, and all of November 2026

Yes. GESAC closes Naples Airport from 1 to 30 November 2026 to rebuild the runway. Some flights move to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport (code QSR), so check the airport code on your booking; during the closure, GESAC and Busitalia Campania run a bus between Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale) and Salerno airport, eight a day each way, timed to the flights, €12 paid on board by card, about an hour and 15 minutes. In November 2026 those flights use Salerno's new terminal, opened in July 2026. Outside November 2026, remember the terminal is closed every night from 22:30 to 03:30 except for exceptional delays: you cannot wait inside overnight for a dawn flight.

Insider notes

Ask for the fixed fare before you leave the rank. The City of Naples sets them per car, covering luggage, nights, Sundays and holidays and the airport supplement; the driver cannot refuse the fixed fare and must hand you a receipt with the route and price before you set off.

The hydrofoils are seasonal, April to early November, with luggage at €5 a piece. Out of season go by road, or by train to Salerno and the Travelmar ferry, which runs all year.

The mozzarella rule: GESAC applies the 100 ml liquids limit to creamy substances as well as liquids, so pack fresh buffalo mozzarella, which travels in its own liquid, in the hold.

Left luggage: from €10 a bag a day; the desk on the first floor beside security is open from 04:30 to 22:00, handy for a last day in Naples before an evening flight.

By hydrofoil from Molo Beverello

From April to early November, yes. NLG sails from the new Beverello terminal to Positano and Amalfi several times a day, from 08:35 to mid-afternoon; some sailings change boats at Capri. One way costs €32 to Positano and €32.50 to Amalfi; to Positano, children aged 2 to 12 pay €18.50 and under-twos travel free.

By train via Napoli Centrale and Salerno

Yes, via Salerno, and this route works all year. Take the Alibus to Napoli Centrale (about 15 minutes), then a fast train to Salerno: Italo runs ten a day in 36 minutes from €8.90, and Trenitalia's Frecciarossa also calls. From the square by Salerno station, Travelmar's ferries reach Amalfi in 35 minutes (€12), Minori in 40 (€10) and Positano in 70 (€17), and SITA buses climb the coast road to Maiori, Minori and Amalfi.

Step-free travel and assistance

Assistance at EU airports is free: ask your airline at least 48 hours before you fly and say exactly what you need. GESAC publishes a guide for passengers with reduced mobility and a service for travellers with autism. Naples taxis carry wheelchairs, pushchairs and guide dogs free.

Delays and your rights

Flights from Naples fall under EU rules. Arrive three hours or more late and you can claim €250 on flights up to 1,500 km, €400 on flights of 1,500 to 3,500 km and longer flights within the EU, and €600 beyond, unless the airline proves extraordinary circumstances. After a long delay the airline also owes you meals, and a hotel if you are moved to the next day.

An early flight or a late landing

The terminal closes from 22:30 to 03:30, so for a dawn flight sleep close by: the Benbo Capsule Hotel is just outside the terminal by car park P2, and the Capodichino International Hotel is 500 metres away. Landing late, the last Curreri coach to Sorrento leaves at 19:30 and the hydrofoils stop in mid-afternoon, so book a driver.

Getting to our hotels

For Le Sirenuse, Palazzo Murat and Il San Pietro in Positano, and Hotel Tramonto d'Oro in Praiano, the €145 fixed taxi fare to Positano or the hydrofoil are the obvious routes. For Hotel Marina Riviera in Amalfi, Borgo Santandrea and Monastero Santa Rosa towards Conca dei Marini, and Hotel Santa Lucia in Minori, take the taxi to Amalfi (€155) or the train to Salerno and the Travelmar ferry. Caruso and Palazzo Pascal, up in Ravello and Scala, are €160 by fixed-fare taxi. Our transfers page will have the timed and priced way to each hotel.
