Where to eat at and around The Garland
The Garland's own tables are The Front Yard, a patio restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Lobby Bar by the pool, with room service from The Front Yard To-Go and a private dining room, the Tangerine Room. Outside, Ventura Boulevard starts about eight minutes' walk to the south and offers two good places to eat on foot. Everything else worth the trip is a drive of 3 to 8 minutes with clear roads, so you will want a car or a taxi. Mind the closing days: Mantee Café and Good Neighbor shut on Monday, and El Ruso shuts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The quick breakfast on foot: a counter on Ventura Boulevard selling smoothies, toasts, açai bowls and coffee and matcha, open every day from 8am to 6pm. Our verdict
Book The Garland for a Universal trip with children: a free trolley to the park, a pool with weekend movies and a Family Suite with its own bunk nook. Budget for about $89 a night in fees and parking, and keep the balcony door shut at night.
