Candlelight: Tribute to Dolly Parton
St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church, Brooklyn Heights
Fourteen Dolly Parton songs, from 9 to 5 to I Will Always Love You, arranged for string quartet and played by candlelight at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights. Two nights only, 12 and 14 November 2026, from 41.04 dollars with fees.
This is a short run: two evenings in one week, Thursday 12 November 2026 at 20:45 and Saturday 14 November 2026 at 18:30. The programme is one of the longest in New York's Candlelight list, fourteen pieces in 60 minutes, and it reaches well past the radio hits. Alongside 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream and I Will Always Love You come Coat of Many Colors, My Tennessee Mountain Home, Love Is Like a Butterfly, Dumb Blonde and Light of a Clear Blue Morning, so it suits people who know the albums as well as the singles.
Parton is a songwriter first, which is why her music arranges well for strings. Wikipedia notes that she wrote and first recorded I Will Always Love You in 1973, as a farewell to her mentor Porter Wagoner, and that she wrote 9 to 5 for the 1980 film of the same name. Melodies built to stand on their own like these need no voice to be recognised, and the country fiddle tradition behind her songs is never far from a violin. Fever says the concert is a tribute and is not linked to or endorsed by the artist.
St. Ann & the Holy Trinity, an 1847 Gothic Revival church with its original stained glass, is a warm setting for music this close to gospel and folk. The Thursday show is the cheaper of the two, from 41.04 dollars against 50.76 on the Saturday, and its later start leaves time for dinner first in Brooklyn Heights. 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is a 17-minute walk.
