Candlelight concerts in New York

4.8/5

About 3,300 reviews on Fever

A string quartet plays an hour of pop or film music in a Gothic church lit by thousands of flameless candles. Book the Taylor Swift tribute at St. Ann's in Brooklyn Heights, from 38.34 dollars with fees, or the Upper East Side balcony from 30.78.

  • Duration: 1 to 1.1 hoursStart times show in the calendar

Candlelight is Fever's own concert format, now in cities around the world, and New York runs it most weeks. The idea is simple: take a historic room, fill the floor and the altar steps with candles, and put a string quartet in the middle of them to play the songs of one artist or one theme. Fever names the Highline String Quartet as the players on most of the New York shows, and every programme is a tribute: Fever says plainly on each listing that the concert is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. You hear Taylor Swift, Queen or Hans Zimmer arranged for two violins, viola and cello, not the artists themselves.

The evening starts at the door. Fever opens it 45 minutes before the concert and does not let anyone in once the music has started. There are no numbered seats: you buy a zone, A, B or C, and take any free seat in it as you arrive, so the early arrivals get the aisle and the front of each block. The candles are flameless LEDs, Fever says, so nothing smokes or drips, and they are what makes the photographs.

The concert runs for about 60 minutes, 65 for the Taylor Swift tribute. The musicians may speak between pieces, and phones stay silent: Fever allows photos and video only when the musicians say so, and never with flash. Programmes are around a dozen pieces long; the Taylor Swift set, for example, runs from Love Story through medleys of Red, Reputation, Folklore and 1989 to Shake It Off.

The two churches are the reason to go. St. Ann & the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights was designed by Minard Lafever and opened in 1847; the church says its Bolton windows are the first set of figural stained glass made in North America. The Church of the Heavenly Rest, at Fifth Avenue and 90th Street opposite Central Park, is a limestone neo-Gothic church with Art Deco details, finished in 1929 and seating about 1,050.

Why this one

The one we would book first is the Taylor Swift tribute at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church: it has more reviews than any other Candlelight show in New York on our list, 1,510, and holds 4.8 across them on Fever on 29 October 2026. It plays at 18:30 on 12 November 2026, 21 January 2027 and 19 February 2027, from 38.34 dollars with fees. St. Ann's is the room we would choose: an 1847 Gothic Revival church with its original stained glass, side galleries and a candlelit aisle and an entrance to the Court St subway on its corner. From 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge it is a 17-minute walk. On the same stage, the Lauryn Hill tribute (4.9 from 366 reviews) and the Queen and The Beatles tribute (4.9 from 45) are the best-rated of our nine on Fever on 29 October 2026.

The Church of the Heavenly Rest on the Upper East Side is the choice for anyone staying uptown: it is four minutes by taxi from The Carlyle and eight from The Plaza. It is also the cheaper church. Queen vs. ABBA there starts at 30.78 dollars with fees, the lowest price of our nine, and the Hans Zimmer evening (4.7 from 944 reviews) is the pick for film-score fans. For Latin music, the Juan Gabriel tribute plays at Heavenly Rest until 11 December 2026 and the Juan Luis Guerra tribute has one night at St. Ann's, 13 November 2026. Fever's New York hub lists other rooms too: Marble Collegiate Church on Fifth Avenue, around the corner from The Fifth Avenue Hotel; the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on the Upper East Side, where a Vivaldi Four Seasons programme is the classical option (4.8 from 1,090 reviews, from 40.50 dollars); and Sony Hall near Times Square. If what you want is jazz in a club with a drink in hand, our page on The Jazz Room suits you better.

On zones: at both churches Zone A is the front of the nave, nearest the quartet, and costs about twice Zone C. At Heavenly Rest, Zone C is the rear balcony, which looks down over the whole field of candles; it is the one we would book there, if you arrive early for the front row and can manage stairs, since Fever says only Zones A and B are accessible. At St. Ann's, Fever's seating plan puts Zone C at the back of the nave and the rear end of the side galleries; Zone B, 52.38 dollars for the Taylor Swift show, is the better value if you want to see the players' hands.

What’s on now

Each show has its own dates, seats and prices on Fever. From prices include the booking fee and were read on 29 October 2026.

Not for

  • Anyone who wants to hear the artist: every show is a tribute by a string quartet

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Musicians whose arrangements surprise even people who are not fans of the artist
  • The setting: candles, stained glass and a church that feels made for the music
  • A well-organised evening, with friendly staff

Complaints

  • Spoken introductions between songs can be hard to hear at the back

The catch

  1. Seats go first come, first served

Seats are not numbered. You get any free seat in the zone on your ticket, and a group only sits together if it arrives together with tickets for the same zone, Fever says.

What to do. Arrive when the doors open, 45 minutes before, and arrive as a group.

  2. Nobody gets in late

Fever does not admit anyone once the concert has started, and the ticket is not refunded.

What to do. Allow for the subway or the traffic; at St. Ann's the Court St station is at the door.

  3. The price grows at checkout

Fever adds an 8% booking fee to each zone, and the from price is the cheapest zone on the cheapest date. Taylor Swift at St. Ann's runs from 38.34 dollars in Zone C to 79.38 in Zone A.

What to do. Compare dates in the calendar: on 29 October 2026 the cheapest Hans Zimmer seat ranged from 36.72 to 48.06 dollars across its dates.

  4. Standard tickets are not refundable

You can change the date or time up to 48 hours before, if there is space. A refund needs the Flexible Cancellation ticket, which keeps a 10% fee.

What to do. If your plans might move, take the flexible ticket at checkout.

  5. The balcony at Heavenly Rest has stairs

Fever says only Zones A and B at the Church of the Heavenly Rest are accessible; Zone C is the balcony.

What to do. With limited mobility or a pushchair, book Zone B there, or choose St. Ann's, which Fever lists as wheelchair accessible.
