Orlando hotels for a family of five: every room that sleeps 5, and the price per person

Most Orlando hotel rooms stop at four. We went through every hotel in our Orlando edit, found the rooms that take five, priced them for two adults and three children on the same night and worked out what each person pays and what the fifth one costs.

Family Suite Exterior Entry at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort: two queen beds with orange headboards, a wall-mounted television and the sliding lattice partition half open onto a breakfast bar with red stools

The short answer

On Tuesday 2 February 2027, the cheapest single room for five in our edit was the Family Suite at Universal Cabana Bay: $296 for the night including tax, $59 each, with space for six. At Disney, the standard rooms at the Grand Floridian ($961) and the Yacht Club ($738) take five, so the fifth person costs nothing extra.

Elsewhere the fifth person is expensive. Pop Century and Animal Kingdom Lodge stop at four plus a child under three, the Four Seasons stops at four with no rollaways, and The Alfond Inn had nothing for five. There, five means two rooms or a suite, and the bill rose by $101 to $2,706 a night.

What only this guide tells you

The fifth-person tax, hotel by hotel

Lists of "hotels for families of five" tell you which rooms are big enough. They rarely say what the extra child costs you, which is the number that decides the booking. We priced each hotel twice on the same night: the cheapest room for a family of four, then the cheapest way to sleep five, either the same room, a rollaway, a suite or two rooms.

The difference is the fifth-person tax. It ran from nothing at two Disney hotels to $36 at Portofino Bay, where the Despicable Me Kids' Suite costs less than a standard room with a rollaway, to more than doubling the bill at the Four Seasons.

Every room for five, by price per person

What is the cheapest Orlando hotel room for a family of five?

These are the rooms in our Orlando edit that sleep five, priced for two adults and three children (aged 12, 9 and 6) on the same night, with the price split five ways.

Cabana Bay's Family Suite is in a class of its own on price: $59 each, in a suite for up to six with a kitchenette and a bathroom split into three compartments. Two Pop Century rooms come second at $88 each, if you are happy to split the family. From there, one room for five costs $147 to $192 each at Helios Grand, the Yacht Club and the Grand Floridian, and the themed kids' suites run $263 to $278.

What the fifth person costs

How much more is a hotel room for five than for four in Orlando?

Same hotel, same night: the cheapest room for a family of four against the cheapest way to sleep five. This is the number that tells you whether a hotel suits a family of five at all.

The Disney Deluxe hotels win, because their standard rooms already sleep five and Disney charges only for adults beyond two. Universal's hotels add a little. Pop Century and the Four Seasons double, because five means a second room.

At Universal: a suite, a rollaway or a kids' suite

Which Universal Orlando hotels sleep five in one room?

All three Universal hotels in our edit take five, in different ways. Cabana Bay's standard rooms stop at four, so five means a Family Suite, and that suite costs just $5 more for five than for four. Helios Grand's two-queen rooms take a fifth guest on a $35-a-night rollaway; at 325 sq ft (30 m²), that is a full room.

Portofino Bay is the surprise. Its two-queen room takes five with a rollaway, but the Despicable Me Kids' Suite cost $1,392, $3 less than the two-queen room plus a rollaway and tax, for 650 sq ft (60 m²) instead of 450, with a children's room that opens only into yours. Every room at Portofino Bay includes Universal Express Unlimited at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure for everyone registered in it: for a family of five, five shorter-queue passes on the room key.

  • Despicable Me Kids' Suite at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel: the children's room, with two missile-shaped twin beds made up in Minion bedding, a Minion wall mural, a red armchair and a wall-mounted television
    Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

    Despicable Me Kids' Suite

    650 sq ft (60 m²), sleeps 5, $1,392 on 2 Feb 2027

Missile-shaped twin beds in a children's room off the parents' room, and Express Unlimited for all five. Cheaper than the two-queen room with a rollaway on our night.

  • Standard 2 Queen Beds room at Universal Helios Grand Hotel: two queen beds against a floral headboard, a pink armchair by the curtained window, a desk and a wall-mounted television
Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews Hotel

    Standard 2 Queen Beds

    325 sq ft (30 m²), sleeps 5 with a rollaway, $696 on 2 Feb 2027

The cheapest room for five at Epic Universe's own hotel, plus a $35 rollaway and tax. Tight for five: take it for early starts, not long afternoons in the room.

  • How To Train Your Dragon Kids' Suite at Universal Helios Grand Hotel: the children's room, with two twin beds under carved, roof-shaped headboards, a mural of a flying dragon and a heavy wooden door
Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews Hotel

How To Train Your Dragon Kids' Suite

    545 sq ft (51 m²), sleeps 5, $1,315 on 2 Feb 2027

A children's room themed on the Viking village of Berk. $580 more than the standard room with a rollaway, so a treat rather than the sensible buy.

At Disney: two hotels where five costs nothing extra

Which Disney hotels sleep five in a standard room?

In our edit, the Grand Floridian and the Yacht Club. The Grand Floridian's standard rooms have two queens or a king, each with a day bed, and sleep five plus a child under three, so the Resort View room at $961 with tax is the same price for four or five. The Yacht Club's rooms sleep up to five adults, but only some have a day bed: choose the two queens with a day bed when you book with Disney, so the fifth person has a bed rather than a request.

Pop Century and Animal Kingdom Lodge stop at four, plus a child under three. At Pop Century two rooms still cost $439 with tax, less than one Yacht Club room for five. At Animal Kingdom Lodge the cheapest one-room answer is a Club Level one-bedroom suite at $1,593, $1,000 more than the room for four.

A note on these prices: Disney's hotels show no rooms on Expedia, so we used Disney's own room rates for that night, plus Orange County's 12.5% tax.

The luxury hotels: where five gets expensive

Does the Four Seasons Orlando sleep five?

No. Every Four Seasons room is about 500 sq ft (46 m²) and takes three adults, or two adults and two children, and the hotel has no rollaways. Under-18s sharing with parents stay free, which is generous for four and no help for five: you need two rooms.

The Ritz-Carlton offered one room for five on our night, the Executive Suite with a pool view at 960 sq ft (89 m²). It was $3,616, $1,441 more than the two-queen room for four. Both hotels were priced well above the rates we have seen on other dates, so treat the levels with care; the gap between the room for four and the room for five is the useful number.

How families of five book Orlando without overpaying

What we learnt pricing every room, and the small print that decides whether five fit.

  1. A child under three does not count at DisneyDisney lists its rooms as sleeping four or five "plus a child under three". Two adults, two children and a baby fit a standard Pop Century room; two adults and three children over three do not.
  2. Exterior entry is the cheap suiteAt Cabana Bay, the Family Suite with an outside door cost $296, and the identical suite off an interior corridor $368. Same 430 sq ft (40 m²), $72 a night for the hallway.
  3. Price the kids' suite before the rollawayAt Portofino Bay the Despicable Me Kids' Suite came in $3 under the two-queen room with a rollaway and tax. Check both on your dates: a separate children's room for the same money is the better night's sleep.
  4. Book the bed, not a request"Sleeps five" often means four beds and a day bed or a rollaway. At the Yacht Club, choose the bed set with the day bed when you book; at Helios Grand and Portofino Bay, ask for the rollaway when you book and expect to pay $35 plus tax a night at the hotel.
  5. Two rooms are fine at the right priceTwo Pop Century rooms ($439) cost less than one Yacht Club room for five ($738). Book both in one reservation and ask Disney to put them next to each other: it is a request, not a promise.
  6. Check who counts as an adultRoom rates cover two adults. A third adult added $20 a night at Cabana Bay, $25 at Helios Grand and $55 at Portofino Bay. Enter every traveller and their age when you search, or the price can change at the desk.
