The take on Disney's Pop Century Resort

Disney's Pop Century Resort stands on Hourglass Lake, south of Epcot and south-east of Hollywood Studios, a Disney-owned value resort themed on the fads of the 1950s to the 1990s. Disney planned 5,760 rooms in two halves; the Classic Years half, with 2,880 rooms, opened on 14 December 2003, and the unfinished half became Disney's Art of Animation Resort, which opened across the lake in 2012. Giant icons mark the blocks, from a Rubik's Cube and a yo-yo to Play-Doh and bowling pins. Classic Hall, the lobby, holds the food court, a shop and an arcade; a refresh of the rooms and lobby finished in early 2026.

The four room types share one layout: a queen bed and a second queen that folds down from the wall and doubles as a table, for up to four guests and a child under three; some have one king bed instead. The refresh brought wood-toned floors, brighter colours and new curtains. What changes is the view and the walk. Standard Rooms look over the hotel or the car parks, Standard Pool View rooms face the Bowling or Computer Pool, Preferred Rooms sit close to Classic Hall and its bus stops, and Preferred Pool View rooms face the Hippy Dippy Pool. On 2 February 2027 they run from $195 to $242 a night before tax.

The reason to book it is the arithmetic. On Disney's standard rates, its Standard Room is the cheapest room at any of the four Disney hotels with a Skyliner station on every night Disney has priced, from October 2026 to the end of 2027: $195 on 2 February 2027, against $231 at Art of Animation. The shared station is a 5-minute walk from Classic Hall; gondolas run to Caribbean Beach, where you change for Hollywood Studios or Epcot's International Gateway, from an hour before early entry until 90 minutes after closing. Disney hotel guests enter the theme parks 30 minutes early every day of the stay and can buy Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days before arrival. There is no resort fee, and self-parking is free.

The trade is everything else. There is no table-service restaurant, only the Everything POP food court, crowded at peak meal times, Petals Pool Bar and pizza delivered to the room. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are bus rides, and the Skyliner closes for refurbishment from 24 to 30 January 2027, in Disney's cheapest weeks, with buses instead. Book it for a park-heavy week around Epcot and Hollywood Studios or a first Disney trip on a budget, paying $32 more for a Preferred Room; skip it for dinners at the hotel or a family of five with no child under three.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: the room to book, Preferred Room

All four room types share one layout, a queen bed and a second queen that folds down from the wall, for up to four guests and a child under three, so the extra money buys position. A Preferred Room costs $227 on 2 February 2027 against $195 for a Standard Room, and Disney places it close to Classic Hall, its bus stops and the food court, looking over a courtyard or the grounds; a Standard Room looks over the hotel or the car parks and can be in the farthest blocks, about 7 minutes' walk from the lobby.

Ask for
Ask for one of the two 1960s buildings, which stand between Classic Hall and the Skyliner station, about 3 minutes' walk from each. Their pool-facing rooms are sold as Preferred Pool View, so a Preferred Room there faces away from the Hippy Dippy Pool.
Avoid
A Standard Room if you will ride the Skyliner every day: it can put you in the 1980s and 1990s blocks, 7 to 9 minutes' walk from the station. Skip the Preferred Pool View, at $242, if the children go to bed early: it looks onto the Hippy Dippy Pool, where Disney runs pool activities every day and shows films on select nights.
