Charles de Gaulle to Paris: every way in, timed and priced

Charles de Gaulle sits north-east of Paris, and getting into the city is simpler than its size suggests. The taxi fare is fixed by law, the RER B runs straight through the centre, and the only real decision is which suits your bags, your hour and your hotel. This page covers CDG alone: where each option leaves from at the airport, what it costs, and how we would reach each of the ten hotels in our Paris edit.

The short answer

From Charles de Gaulle a taxi costs a fixed €56 to the Right Bank, where nine of our hotels are, and €65 to Mandarin Oriental Lutetia on the Left Bank, with a typical drive of 33–41 minutes. Travelling light, the RER B reaches Gare du Nord in about 25 minutes and Châtelet-Les Halles in about 28 for €14. Landing late or with children, book a driver who meets you in arrivals.

The CDG taxi fare and where to find the rank

The fare between Charles de Gaulle and Paris is fixed by the Paris police prefecture and depends only on which bank of the Seine you are going to: €56 to the Right Bank, €65 to the Left Bank. It is per car, the same in both directions, and no extra fees can be added, including for luggage; a fifth passenger, where the car takes one, adds €5.50. Every Paris taxi must accept cards.

Official taxis wait only at the rank outside your terminal's arrivals exit, with agents directing you to the next car. Check for the lit TAXI sign on the roof. Anyone offering a ride inside the terminal is not a licensed taxi.

Is the RER B worth it from CDG?

For one person travelling light, yes: €14, about 28 minutes to Châtelet-Les Halles, and no traffic. CDG has two stations. From Terminal 2 (halls 2A to 2F), walk to Aéroport CDG 2 TGV in the middle of the terminal; from 2G, take the free N2 shuttle to 2F first. From Terminal 3, walk to Aéroport CDG 1 at Roissypôle; from Terminal 1, take CDGVAL one stop.

Buy the Paris Région Airports ticket at the machines or on your phone: an ordinary metro ticket will not open the airport gates. Paris Aéroport warns of major engineering works on the RER B through 2026, so check the line before you rely on it. For two people the €56 taxi to the door often makes more sense.

Charles de Gaulle to Paris at night

The RER B leaves the airport until around midnight. After that the Noctilien N140 and N143 buses run to Gare de l'Est between about 00:30 and 05:30, on an ordinary bus ticket. Taxis serve the ranks 24 hours a day at the same fixed fare, and a booked driver will have tracked a delayed flight. For a landing after 23:00 with luggage, either beats a night bus.

The Roissybus has gone

Île-de-France Mobilités withdrew the Roissybus on 1 March 2026. Paris Aéroport now points to the express 9517 bus, which links the airport with Saint-Denis Pleyel on metro line 14, but for central Paris the RER B is faster and simpler.

With children and luggage

The fixed fare is per car, so a family of four pays the same as one traveller. For a fifth person or a pushchair and several cases, book a van: Paris Aéroport notes a booked van carries up to seven, and a private transfer is the way to be sure of child seats. On the RER B there is a €7 reduced fare for those entitled.

Going back to CDG

The fixed fares work in reverse. Paris Aéroport advises arriving two hours before a short-haul flight and three before long-haul. Allow a typical 33–41 minutes from our hotels and far more in the weekday evening rush, and tell the driver your terminal and hall, as Terminal 2's halls have separate drop-off points.
