Paris airport to the city centre: every way, timed and priced

Paris makes the airport run easy if you know two things: the taxi fare into the city is fixed by law from both main airports, and the trains are quick and run all day. Below is every realistic way in from Charles de Gaulle and Orly, with the operators' own times and prices, and the way we would get to each of the ten hotels in our Paris edit.

The short answer

From Charles de Gaulle a taxi costs a fixed €56 to the Right Bank, where nine of our hotels are, and €65 to Mandarin Oriental Lutetia on the Left Bank; the drive is typically 33–41 minutes. From Orly it is €45 and €36, and 20–31 minutes. Travelling light, the RER B from Charles de Gaulle and metro line 14 from Orly each reach Châtelet in about 25–28 minutes for €14.

  • CDGParis Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The main airport, north-east of the city: long-haul, Air France and most international airlines, with the RER B into the centre.
  • ORYParis Orly (ORY). The smaller airport south of the city, mostly European flights, closer to all ten of our hotels and linked by metro line 14.

Paris taxi, fixed fare

CDGORY
Time
Typically 33–41 minutes from Charles de Gaulle and 20–31 minutes from Orly to our hotels
Price
Charles de Gaulle €56 to the Right Bank, €65 to the Left Bank; Orly €45 to the Right Bank, €36 to the Left Bank; per car, no extra fees, €5.50 for a fifth passenger

The simplest answer for two or more people with luggage and for most of our hotels. Take a car only from the official rank outside arrivals; every Paris taxi must take cards.

Pre-booked private transfer

CDGORY
Time
The same drive as the taxi, with the driver waiting in arrivals
Price
Fixed when you book; the widget on this page shows the live price

Worth it after a long-haul night, for late or delayed flights, for families who need child seats or a larger car, and for groups of more than four who would not fit one taxi.

RER B train

CDG
Time
About 25 minutes to Gare du Nord and 28 minutes to Châtelet-Les Halles; every 10 to 15 minutes on weekdays, from about 04:50 to midnight from the airport
Price
€14 per person on the Paris Région Airports ticket; €7 reduced fare for those entitled

Quick and the right call for Hôtel Madame Rêve and Le Grand Mazarin if you travel light. For most other hotels you still need a metro change or a taxi at the far end.

Metro line 14

ORY
Time
About 25 minutes to Châtelet, via Gare de Lyon and on to Pyramides, Madeleine and Saint-Lazare; from 05:30 until around midnight
Price
€14 per person on the Paris Région Airports ticket

The best way in from Orly for anyone near Châtelet or Madeleine. Board at the Aéroport d'Orly station, reached from Orly 3 arrivals.

Orlyval and RER B

ORY
Time
About 6 minutes from Orly to Antony, then the RER B into Paris; from about 06:00 to 23:35
Price
€14 per person for Orlyval and the RER on one ticket

Useful for the Left Bank stations of the RER B, Luxembourg and Port-Royal. With luggage, the €36 taxi to the Left Bank is the easier choice.

Noctilien night buses

CDGORY
Time
Between about 00:30 and 05:30: N140 and N143 from Charles de Gaulle to Gare de l'Est; N22, N31 and N131 from Orly to Châtelet and Gare de Lyon
Price
An ordinary bus ticket

The only public transport in the small hours, and slow. After a late landing with bags, a taxi or a booked driver is the better answer.

From the airport to our ten hotels

The taxi rules and fixed fares

French law sets the fare between the two main airports and Paris, and it depends only on which bank of the Seine you are going to. From Charles de Gaulle it is €56 to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank; from Orly, €45 and €36. The fare is per car, the same in both directions, and no extra fees or surcharges can be added, including for luggage. A fifth passenger, where the car takes one, adds €5.50.

Nine of our ten hotels are on the Right Bank; Mandarin Oriental Lutetia is the one on the Left. Take a car only from the official rank outside arrivals, check the roof light, and pay by card if you like: every Paris taxi must accept it, whatever the amount.

The train and metro in detail

From Charles de Gaulle, follow the train signs to the RER B: the station sits in the middle of Terminal 2, and from Terminal 1 the free CDGVAL shuttle takes you to it. Trains reach Gare du Nord in about 25 minutes and Châtelet-Les Halles in about 28. From Orly, metro line 14 leaves from Orly 3 and runs straight to Châtelet in about 25 minutes.

Both need the €14 Paris Région Airports ticket; the ordinary metro ticket will not open the gates at the airport stations. Which to take comes down to the hotel: Hôtel Madame Rêve is about five minutes on foot from Châtelet-Les Halles, and Le Grand Mazarin about seven from Châtelet. For the rest of our edit, add a change or a walk and the fixed taxi fare starts to look like the better deal, especially for two.

The airport buses have gone

The Orlybus stopped on 3 March 2025, replaced by metro line 14, and the Roissybus stopped on 1 March 2026, when Île-de-France Mobilités said the rail options give a more reliable journey time; express bus 9517 now runs from the airport to Saint-Denis Pleyel for metro line 14. Older guides still list both. The only buses left into Paris are the Noctilien night lines.

Arriving late

The RER B leaves Charles de Gaulle until around midnight and line 14 runs from Orly until around the same time; after that it is the night buses or a car. A taxi from the official rank costs the same fixed fare at any hour, and a booked driver will have tracked a delayed flight and be waiting. For a landing after 23:00 with luggage, either beats a night bus to Gare de l'Est.

With children and luggage

The fixed fare is per car, so a family of four pays what one traveller pays; a fifth person adds €5.50 where the car takes them, and larger groups need two cars or a booked people carrier. Booking a private transfer is the way to be sure of child seats and a car big enough for a pushchair. On the trains, the Paris Région Airports ticket has a €7 reduced fare for those entitled.

Going back to the airport

The fixed fares work in reverse, and Paris Aéroport advises arriving two hours before a short-haul flight and three before a long-haul one. Allow about 33–41 minutes to Charles de Gaulle and 20–31 to Orly, and much more in the weekday rush. Tell the driver your terminal and, at Charles de Gaulle, your hall (2E, 2F and so on).
