Hollywood Burbank: the airport guide

Hollywood Burbank Airport

Hollywood Burbank is the airport Angelenos use when they can: one terminal, 14 gates and 6.2 million passengers in 2025, 12 miles north of Downtown and minutes from Hollywood and Studio City. On 13 October 2026 it moved into a brand-new terminal, so much of what you read elsewhere about Burbank is already out of date. This guide is for the new building.

The 30-second version

Fly into Burbank if you are staying in Studio City, Hollywood or Silver Lake: The Garland is about 13 minutes away and The Hollywood Roosevelt 19. Out of the terminal, taxis wait on the ground level of the parking structure across the road, and the ride-app pick-up is in its own lot a few steps east. Burbank asks for one hour before your flight, two at peak holiday times, and it still boards many flights the old way, by stairs from the apron.

Terminals

Main Terminal (Module C)

Alaska, Allegiant, American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United

One building: the ticketing hall on the left, the single TSA checkpoint in the middle and baggage claim on the right as you face it from the road. Gates 7 to 12 are in Module C behind the checkpoint.

Modules A and B

As assigned on the day

Gates 1 to 6, west of the main terminal along the same airside concourse.

Module D

As assigned on the day

Gates 13 and 14 at the eastern end, a short walk from the checkpoint.

Landing to kerb

Every pick-up point, terminal by terminal
  1. Off the aircraft

Burbank has kept its outdoor boarding, so you may come down stairs onto the apron and walk in. The new terminal was built to current accessibility standards; ask your airline in advance if you need help with steps.

  2. No passport control

Burbank's flights arrive as domestic flights, so there is no immigration hall. Visitors from abroad clear US entry at their first US airport and arrive here like everyone else.

  3. Baggage claim

Baggage claim is on the right-hand side of the main terminal as you come through from the gates. Lost and found is on the landside too, open 08:00–16:00 on weekdays.

  4. Taxis

Cross the road to the ground level of the parking structure: the taxi pick-up is at its western end. Burbank lists three companies, United Taxi, LA City Cab and Beverly Hills Cab; fares are metered.

  5. Ride apps

Uber and Lyft pick up in their own lot just east of the terminal, a few steps from the building, so there is no shuttle to catch.

  6. Trains and buses

Metrolink's Burbank Airport-North station on the Antelope Valley Line is close to the new terminal, with a free on-demand airport shuttle that the airport runs 05:00–00:30. Burbank Airport-South, on the Ventura County Line and the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, is reached by the airport shuttle from the stop in front of the parking structure, which also serves the rental car centre and the Metro Bus and BurbankBus stops.

  7. Hire cars and pre-booked drivers

Ten hire-car brands share the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center, reached by the same airport shuttle. A pre-booked driver tracks your flight and meets you, which is the easy answer after a late arrival or with children.

Kerb to gate

  1. How early

Burbank recommends at least an hour before departure, and two hours at peak holiday times. It is famously quick, but there is only one checkpoint for all 14 gates.

  2. Getting dropped off

Cars can drop off at the kerb, but no waiting is allowed there. Ride apps drop off at their own lot east of the terminal; valet parking is in the parking structure.

  3. Check-in and bags

The ticketing hall is on the left of the main entrance, with oversize bag drop beside it. Airline counters do not accept cash, so pay any bag fees by card.

  4. Security

One TSA checkpoint in the centre of the main terminal serves every gate. Bring a REAL ID-compliant licence or a passport.

  5. Where to wait

Behind security, the concourse runs from Gate 1 in Module A to Gate 14 in Module D, with most of the food in Module C, straight ahead of the checkpoint. The airport opened a new bar overlooking the airfield with the terminal.

  6. Boarding

Many flights still board from the apron by stairs, part of the Burbank experience the airport chose to keep. Be at the gate when boarding is called; it moves quickly.

The new terminal, in brief

Yes. The replacement terminal opened on 13 October 2026, with an Alaska Airlines departure to Santa Rosa and a Southwest arrival from Las Vegas as its first flights. It stands further from the runways than the old building, which was the reason for building it, and its main entrance moved from Thornton Avenue to Winona Avenue at Hollywood Way.

It kept what made Burbank popular: 14 gates, one checkpoint, short walks and boarding by stairs. What is new is the space, the dining, valet parking inside the parking structure and a ride-app lot steps from the doors.

Insider notes

Burbank is quick, but the 2025 figures show one airline carries well over half its passengers: Southwest, 3.5 million of 6.2 million. Its fares and timetable decide whether Burbank works for you.

The Metrolink North station is now the closest railway station to the terminal. Trains reach Union Station in about 26 minutes for $5.25; check the timetable, as they do not run all day.

If someone is collecting you, there is no kerbside waiting: they wait in the short-term parking structure ($9 for the first hour) or meet you at baggage claim.

Is there a lounge?

No. Burbank's facility map for the new terminal shows no airline or pay-in lounge, and Priority Pass lists none. The terminal is small enough that you will rarely need one: arrive an hour before, eat in Module C and walk to the gate.

With children

Short walks and a single checkpoint make Burbank one of the easiest airports in California with small children. The Waggage Claim therapy dogs visit the terminal, the facility map shows family restrooms along the concourse, a nursing room and an adult changing room, and there is a pet relief area airside. Boarding by stairs means folding the pushchair at the gate.

Step-free and assistance

The new terminal was designed to current ADA standards, and the airport has said that accessible boarding up to the aircraft door is part of the design. For a wheelchair or a skycap, ask your airline or use a white courtesy phone in the terminal. Accessible parking is in the short-term structure.

Getting to our ten hotels

Burbank is the closer airport for The Garland (about 13 minutes), The Hollywood Roosevelt (19), Silver Lake Pool & Inn (21) and Sunset Tower (24, against 27 from LAX). Hotel Figueroa in Downtown is 25 minutes by road or a Metrolink ride to Union Station and two Metro stops. The beach hotels, Malibu and Terranea are much nearer LAX. Every hotel, timed from both airports, is on our airport transfers page.
