Which room to book at Le Grand Mazarin

The Prestige Room. At 29 to 31 m² it is half as big again as the 20 m² Classic Room and the first category whose size you can count on, and it faces either the street or the leafy winter garden, so it is the room in which to ask for quiet. On Tuesday 23 February 2027 it cost €758 a night, €163 more than the Classic.

Why this one

The bottom of the ladder is about space, and the names do not tell you much. The Classic is 20 m². The Superior is 20 to 25 m², so the €33 step up may buy no floor area at all, and the Deluxe runs from 23 to 33 m², so it can be smaller than the best Superiors or larger than a Prestige. The Prestige Room, at 29 to 31 m², is the first category with a narrow range and half as big again as the Classic. On Tuesday 23 February 2027 it cost €163 more than the Classic and €74 more than the Deluxe.

It is also a category sold facing either the street or the leafy winter garden, the planted inner garden the hotel's three buildings are arranged around, and the garden side is the one to ask for if you sleep lightly, because the street side hears the Marais late on Friday and Saturday nights. Above it, the Parisian Junior Suite adds a lounge area and room for four for €226 more, and the Mazarin Suite a separate living room; both earn their price for families and long stays, less so for two people on a city break.

Ask for
Ask for the winter-garden side when you book and again at check-in if you sleep lightly; if you want the street outlook, ask for a higher floor. Ask for the beds you want at the same time, since queen, king or twin beds are offered on request. Families should ask for connecting rooms when booking: a Prestige connects to a Deluxe, and connecting Superiors are available too.
Avoid
The Classic Room, at 20 m², for more than a night or two, and a low street-side room at a weekend if you sleep lightly. Do not trade up from a Superior to a Deluxe for space alone: at 23 to 33 m² the Deluxe can be as small as a Superior, so take it for the decoration.

Suites against rooms

The Parisian Junior Suite, 30 to 40 m², adds a lounge area and sleeps up to four adults. Some have a balcony, available on request and at a supplement the hotel does not publish, so ask for one when you book if you want it.

The Mazarin Suite, 42 to 49 m², is the largest category the hotel sells: a separate living area, the street or the winter garden outside, and up to four adults. It is also the family answer, because it connects to a Deluxe or Superior Room and a Parisian Junior Suite to sleep up to ten.

Our verdict

Book Le Grand Mazarin for the rooms themselves, a maximalist set piece made by French workshops, with a mosaic pool beneath them and the Marais at the door. Pay for a Prestige Room, ask for the winter-garden side, and you have the best of it.
