Candlelight: the best of Joe Hisaishi

Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles, Invalides, 7th arrondissement

4.7/5

About 468 reviews on Fever

A pianist plays 12 pieces by Joe Hisaishi, most from the films of Hayao Miyazaki, for about an hour by candlelight at the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles in the 7th. Four evenings at 19:30 to 29 January 2027, from 39.38 euros with fees.

Joe Hisaishi has scored all but one of Hayao Miyazaki's films since 1984, according to Wikipedia, and this piano programme is made almost entirely of that music. It was rated 4.7 from 468 reviews on Fever on 30 October 2026. In 12 pieces the pianist moves through the films as French audiences know them: Nausicaä de la Vallée du Vent (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind), Le Château dans le ciel (Castle in the Sky), Mon voisin Totoro (My Neighbour Totoro), Kiki la petite sorcière (Kiki's Delivery Service) and Le Voyage de Chihiro (Spirited Away), which has three pieces, One Summer's Day, Inochi no Namae and Chihiro's Waltz. The set closes with Merry Go Round of Life from Le Château ambulant (Howl's Moving Castle). Summer is the title track of his score for Takeshi Kitano's L'Été de Kikujiro (Kikujiro), one of his most recognised compositions, Wikipedia notes.

Hisaishi is a pianist as well as a composer, Wikipedia notes, and here a single pianist plays the whole programme. Fever names Ivan Foucher as the pianist on 6 November 2026 and Maxime Zecchini on 14 November; later dates are to be announced. It is a tribute, and Fever says it is not associated with or endorsed by the composer.

The Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles, the national school for blind young people on Boulevard des Invalides, where Fever holds several of its Candlelight evenings, is in a building completed in 1844, French Wikipedia notes. All four dates start at 19:30, so dinner comes after. Zone B starts at 39.38 euros, Zone A at 51.45 and Premium at 62.48. Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris is a 14-minute walk. For doors, zones and the rest of the format, see our full guide to Candlelight in Paris.
