Why this one
The Premier and the Junior Suite sit one rung apart. The Premier is up to 50 square metres in ebony, with a bath and a walk-in shower; the Junior Suite is up to 53, with a king bed, a free-standing bath, a steam shower and a living area apart from the bed. For 9 to 11 February 2027 the step between them was 1,615 to 1,785 euros a night on the two-night rate: 170 euros for the steam shower and the living area.
Below the pick the ladder is about materials and floor area: walnut in the Deluxe, ebony from the Premier up, a steam shower from the Junior Suite up. Above it the money goes into history, wellness and size. The Fresco Junior Suite is the same room on paper, laid out as a duplex under an original painted ceiling; then come a private sauna at 64 square metres, two bedrooms at 111 and a kitchen and a jacuzzi at 154, and only the Fresco Suite and the Fresco Grand Suite keep a painted ceiling. The hotel's pages date the frescoes to the 16th century; the architects who uncovered them say 17th. For 20 to 22 April 2027 every category was 9 to 30 per cent dearer except the Penthouse, at 31,450 euros a night on both sets of dates.
- Ask for
- Check what your rate includes, because spa and pool access comes with some rates and not others. Ask which Junior Suite you are being given and what it looks at, and if you would rather sleep than look, say courtyard: Deluxe, Premier and Junior Suite all come both ways.
- Avoid
- Skip the Superior, which the hotel's own page gives a walk-in shower, a single sink and no bath, unlike every category above it, and which is not always on sale. And read the small print on whatever rate you take: the best available rate adds a discretionary 5 per cent service charge at checkout, outside the total shown.
Suites against rooms
Two suites are worth singling out. At 2,975 euros on the two-night rate the Premier Suite and the Fresco Suite cost the same: 78 square metres with a sofa bed and windows on both the courtyard and Via Angelo Brunetti, against 84 with a balcony, a painted ceiling and a sauna in the bathroom. The Premier Suite is the one that sleeps three; the room page puts the Fresco Suite's balcony over Piazza del Popolo, the booking page over Via di Ripetta.
The other is the Grand Suite, 5,950 euros for 154 square metres on the fifth floor with a kitchen, a jacuzzi behind the bed and Piazza del Popolo in the window, and no painted ceiling. Here you choose between the ceiling and the square.

Our verdict
Book ROMEO Roma for the building: a listed palazzo relined in ebony and marble by Zaha Hadid Architects, with a Roman workshop under the pool and restored painted ceilings in five suites. Come for the architecture and the quiet rather than a scene, and time the arrival around the restaurant days.
