What we looked for

In Rome the good tables are mostly off the famous squares, and two of these four addresses are in a quarter that goes quiet after dark: Campo Marzio empties when the shops shut, so from Bvlgari Hotel Roma or ROMEO Roma dinner out means a walk to the Pantheon or Piazza del Popolo. So a serious kitchen in the building earns its place. Three of the four bring in a famous name: Alain Ducasse at ROMEO Roma, Niko Romito at Bvlgari Hotel Roma and the Paris team behind Gigi on the roof of Orient Express La Minerva. Aroma, on the roof of Palazzo Manfredi, holds the only MICHELIN star among our ten.

Choose by the meal. For a tasting menu, Aroma. For breakfast and a quiet house, ROMEO Roma, whose restaurant serves dinner Tuesday to Saturday. For a bar with a crowd, the Bvlgari Bar and its roof. For dinner beside the Pantheon's dome and a speakeasy afterwards, Orient Express La Minerva. Book the table when you book the room.

Palazzo Manfredi

Colle Oppio, Rome

Aroma holds one star in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Italia, and it is on the roof, with the Colosseum in front, the Domus Aurea to the right and the dome of St Peter's in the distance. Giuseppe Di Iorio has run the kitchen since 2010. The summer 2026 card runs four tasting menus, from 190 euros for the vegetarian Colle Oppio to 270 for the Corinzio, with a shorter Smart Menu at 180 and pairings from a cellar of more than 600 labels. Lunch is Wednesday to Sunday, dinner every night, and the terrace is enclosed in winter. Room guests get the same roof at breakfast, included on every rate.

Below it, The Court is Matteo Zed's cocktail bar, a courtyard between the two buildings open to the Colosseum and the Ludus Magnus, from 6pm to 1.30am. Book it, and plan on two cocktails a head: that is the minimum.

ROMEO Roma

Campo Marzio, Rome

Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse Roma is the chef's first restaurant in Rome, a dark room of Macassar ebony with the kitchen open to it, run by Iacopo Iualè, who came through Le Louis XV in Monaco and Le Meurice in Paris. The tasting menus run to seven courses, and in warm weather the kitchen also serves out in the garden by the pool. It opens Tuesday to Saturday for dinner, and it is the one table here that outsiders can book.

Everything else is for guests, bar a public aperitivo on the roof on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Breakfast is Ducasse's too, à la carte with eggs cooked to order, and guests call it the high point of the stay. Il Cortile feeds you all day in the garden, among mature trees around the pool, Il Bar runs from 11am to midnight, and La Terrazza on the top floor pours Krug over Piazza del Popolo from Thursday to Sunday.

Bvlgari Hotel Roma

Campo Marzio, Rome

Bvlgari Hotel Roma is the one to book for drinks. The Bvlgari Bar's black marble counter is finished with 110 Murano twirls, hand blown with gold dust by Barovier and Toso, which catch the light at dusk. It seats 108 inside and 108 out on two terraces, one onto Via di Ripetta and one onto Piazza Augusto Imperatore, from 5pm to 1am. On the roof, La Terrazza has 76 seats among 11 pergolas, looking to Villa Medici and Trinità dei Monti one way and the Tiber and the Janiculum the other, from 6pm to midnight.

Up on the fifth floor, Il Ristorante - Niko Romito seats 54, with a terrace looking down on the Mausoleum of Augustus: classic Italian recipes rewritten for lightness and served as a tour of the country, at dinner and at a Sunday brunch. Il Caffè, under the arcade on the square, serves breakfast from 7am, and it is the sitting guests single out.

Orient Express La Minerva

Pigna, Rome

The seventh floor is Gigi Rigolatto Roma, from Paris Society and RIKAS, who run Gigi in Paris and Saint-Tropez, in a room Hugo Toro designed, with the Pantheon's dome in the foreground and St Peter's on the skyline. The cooking is Italian and easy to like, burrata, crudo, linguine alle vongole, cotoletta, served at lunch, aperitivo and dinner every day, beside a fourteen-seat Bellini Bar.

Downstairs is the calmer half. La Minerva Bar works from breakfast to late under the lobby's restored glass roof, with eggs cooked to order in the morning and a harpist on some mornings. A thirty-seat speakeasy hides behind two doors, with cocktails themed on the old Orient Express routes and live jazz some evenings; ask at the desk. At the same door, the Cerea family of Da Vittorio run a counter for pastry, chocolates and gelato churned on site.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Rome

Which Rome hotel restaurants have a MICHELIN star?

Of our ten, only Aroma, Giuseppe Di Iorio's kitchen on the roof of Palazzo Manfredi, which has one star in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Italia. Il Ristorante - Niko Romito at Bvlgari Hotel Roma is in the guide without a star, and Retrobottega on the roof of Rhinoceros Roma is in the 2026 selection too. Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse Roma at ROMEO Roma is the reason to go for Ducasse's cooking rather than for a star. For a second starred dinner, Idylio by Apreda is three minutes from Orient Express La Minerva.

Can you eat at these hotels without staying?

At most of them. Aroma books through its own form, and The Court by reservation, with a two-cocktail minimum. At ROMEO Roma only Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse Roma takes outside bookings, though La Terrazza opens to the public for an aperitivo on Thursday and Sunday, 5pm to 8pm. The Bvlgari Bar has its own street door on Via di Ripetta, and Il Caffè is open to all. At Orient Express La Minerva, Gigi Rigolatto Roma is a public restaurant, and breakfast at La Minerva Bar is open to non-guests.

Which days are the hotel restaurants open?

Check before you build a trip around one. Aroma serves dinner every night from 7.30pm and lunch from Wednesday to Sunday. Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse Roma serves dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday, 7.30pm to 10pm, and ROMEO Roma's La Terrazza opens Thursday to Sunday, 6pm to midnight. Gigi Rigolatto Roma at Orient Express La Minerva serves lunch, aperitivo and dinner every day. Il Ristorante - Niko Romito at Bvlgari Hotel Roma serves dinner from 7pm to 11pm, and a Sunday brunch from noon to 3pm.

Is breakfast included at these hotels?

At three of the four, on every rate. Palazzo Manfredi serves it on the Aroma terrace with the Colosseum in front of you. ROMEO Roma's is Alain Ducasse's, à la carte with eggs cooked to order, from 7am to 10.30am. Orient Express La Minerva includes it on every plan; ask whether it is laid on the roof or in La Minerva Bar. At Bvlgari Hotel Roma it depends on the rate, so check yours; Il Caffè serves it under the arcade from 7am.

Where can you drink on a hotel rooftop in Rome?

Bvlgari Hotel Roma's La Terrazza has 76 seats among pergolas looking to Villa Medici and the Janiculum, from 6pm to midnight. ROMEO Roma's La Terrazza pours Krug over Piazza del Popolo for hotel guests from Thursday to Sunday, with a public aperitivo on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Gigi Rigolatto Roma at Orient Express La Minerva has the Pantheon's dome in the foreground and a bar open to walk-ins until 11.30pm. At Palazzo Manfredi the drinking is in The Court, a courtyard open to the Colosseum, from 6pm to 1.30am.

How did you choose these hotels?

Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
