Which room to book at Royal Garden Villas & Spa

A Duchess Villa on an upper tier. Every villa on the hillside comes with the same heated private pool, kitchen and terrace, so for two people the extra square metres up the ladder buy a second bedroom you will not use. Position is what changes a stay here, and the hotel does not charge for it: you ask.

Why this one

The formula does not change as you climb. Every category on the hotel's three villa pages has a private heated pool, a fully equipped kitchen, a king bed of two metres by two, a terrace with sunbeds and the drinks cabinet, and the villa pages list the same breakfast buffet, spa circuit and turndown service for all of them. What changes is floor area and bedrooms, and for two people neither matters much: a Duchess is 140 square metres, which is already a small house, and the Princess above it spends its extra 68 square metres on a twin bedroom and a second bathroom. For 20 to 22 April 2027, that step was 595 euros to 714 a night, non-refundable with breakfast, and the Queen at 1,199 bought a terrace the hotel measures at 404 square metres. The one thing the Duchess gives up is the Balinese bed: it and the Princess are the only two categories the hotel lists without one, and the Gran Duchess adds it for 60 euros a night more.

Position is the rest of the game, and it is free. The resort steps down the hill in tiers, the road runs along the bottom, and the one gripe guests raise again and again is traffic noise on the lower terraces, with upper-tier villas quieter and better placed for the sea. The hotel publishes no tier by category and names a view for one category only, the Gran Majestic, which it sells on the best sea views from its terrace; ten of the twenty-eight villas are Duchesses, so the spread of positions inside the entry category is as wide as anywhere on the property. Spend the difference between a Duchess and a Princess on a hire car and dinners in La Caleta, and spend your words at booking on the tier.

Ask for
Ask for an upper-tier villa, away from the road at the bottom of the site, and say that road noise and the outlook are the reasons. If you want shade outdoors, know that the Duchess and the Princess are the only two categories the hotel lists without a Balinese bed; the Gran Duchess adds one for 60 euros a night more in April. Book the non-refundable rate only if the dates are certain: in April 2027 it saved 105 euros a night on a Duchess, and the flexible rate cancels free more than five days out.
Avoid
Do not book half board. It added 180 euros a night to every category in April 2027, and 200 in February, for dinner in the only restaurant, every night. Do not book a two-bedroom villa for two people expecting a better pool: the Princess's pool is 2.25 by 5.5 metres and the Duchess's is 2.6 by 2.3, and neither is for swimming. And do not accept the lowest tier without asking what else is free; the villas nearest the road are the ones guests complain about.

Suites against rooms

There are no suites; the ladder is villas from start to finish. Two are worth a word. The Queen Villa is the one the terrace photographs are taken on: the villa page gives 370 square metres, and elsewhere the hotel describes it as 548 square metres of which 404 are terrace, with a Balinese bed and an outdoor pavilion the hotel sells as sleeping space for two more when it lists the same villa for six. At 1,199 euros a night in April it was about twice the Duchess. The Royal Villa, the entry three-bedroom, has a 2.4 by 3.6 metre pool that is among the smallest on the property and barely bigger than the Duchess's, so a family of six choosing between it and the Imperial should look at the pool dimensions before the floor area.
