What we looked for

In Tenerife, quiet is mostly geography. The noise is concentrated: Playa de las Américas is a seafront of bars, cafés and nightclubs, and the biggest resorts, with 300 to 600 rooms, get busy around their own pools in February half term. Away from both, quiet is easy to find. The villages of the north-west, Garachico and Buenavista del Norte, are silent after dinner, and the villa hillside above La Caleta has no street life at all.

So the choice is what you want around the quiet. For sun, the villas on the Golf Costa Adeje hillside give you your own heated pool, with a taxi to dinner. For silence with character, go north-west, to old streets and sea cliffs, and accept more cloud than the south. Size helps everywhere: Hotel San Roque has 20 rooms and Royal Garden Villas & Spa 28 villas.

Quiet is the whole design here. There are 28 villas on the Golf Costa Adeje hillside, each with a heated private pool and a walled garden, so the water and the terrace you use all day are shared with nobody. There is no entertainment programme. Evenings are dinner at Jardín, the one restaurant, a drink at the Tucán Tucán bar or supper from your own kitchen, and on Mondays dinner moves outside beside the pool, with live music.

The golf course wraps around the villas, and La Caleta, the nearest village, is 4 minutes away by car, so the coast's evening life stays at a distance you choose. The house is not adults-only, and its two-bedroom villas are sold for families, so a school-term week is the quietest time to come.

Hacienda del Conde is adults-only, for guests of 16 and over, with 117 rooms built low in the manner of a Canarian hacienda at the island's north-west tip. Buenavista del Norte, a kilometre inland, is a small town around its church square, and this whole corner of the coast goes silent after dinner. Every room has a terrace, so the evening can start outside your own door.

The days are quiet in a more active way: walking in the Teno Rural Park, Masca 20 minutes away by road, a round on the Ballesteros course next door or an afternoon in the ALQVIMIA Spa. Most guests dine in, from the buffet to the tasting menus at Montenegro, which means nobody has to drive after dark.

Twenty rooms in an 18th-century manor house, adults only from 14, in a town that goes silent after dinner. The house is built inwards: thick walls, wooden galleries and rooms that look onto the pool courtyard, the main courtyard or the San Agustín convent across the street. The heated courtyard pool is for a quiet dip, and the roof solarium is for the view over the town and the Atlantic.

The evening needs no car. Anturium serves dinner in the courtyard, with the last table booked at 21:30, Bar Hoffmann pours the nightcap, and El Rebojo and Tizón, two of the town's best tables, are two minutes away on foot. Garachico is small, flat and cobbled, and Plaza de la Libertad is 3 minutes from the door.

This is the largest hotel on the list, with 212 rooms, and it is here for its position and its gardens. It stands in the residential Botánico district on the hillside above Puerto de la Cruz, next to the botanical garden, while Plaza del Charco, where the town's evenings happen, is a 22-minute walk below. Around the building are 25,000 square metres of subtropical garden with black swans and koi.

For the quietest version of the stay, book the adults-only wing, where the renovated rooms are, and use the spa's thermal circuit, for guests of 16 and over, in the morning, when it is at its calmest. After dinner, anyone who wants company will find cocktails and live music in the Bar Hall until one.

Good questions about Tenerife

Which part of Tenerife is quietest at night?

The north-west. Garachico and Buenavista del Norte go silent after dinner, and Hotel San Roque and Hacienda del Conde are there. In the south, the Golf Costa Adeje hillside above La Caleta has no street life at all, which is why Royal Garden Villas & Spa is so calm, and on the coast below, the La Caleta end of Costa Adeje is the sedate one. The loud stretch is Playa de las Américas, a seafront of bars, cafés and nightclubs.

Is Costa Adeje noisy at night?

Not at its northern end. Evenings around Playa del Duque mean dinner and a walk on the promenade; it livens up towards Torviscas, and beyond that Playa de las Américas is the nightlife strip. La Caleta, where the promenade begins, is quieter still, and at night what you hear is the sea. Above it, the Golf Costa Adeje hillside has no nightlife at all: Royal Garden Villas & Spa is up there, 4 minutes by car from La Caleta.

When is Tenerife quietest?

Outside the school holidays. The peaks are Christmas and New Year, February half term and Easter; the Canary schools break from 23 December to 8 January and for Semana Santa from 22 to 26 March 2027. The gaps between them are the value windows: the second half of January, May and June, and November. Small hotels fill first in any month, so if your dates are fixed, book Hotel San Roque, with 20 rooms, or Royal Garden Villas & Spa, with 28 villas, before the flights.

Is Tenerife quiet during Carnival?

Not in Santa Cruz, which does not sleep during the street carnival, 19 to 28 February in 2027, and pulls the island's taxis towards it. Carnival also fills hotels across the island, and in 2027 the February peak runs from half term straight into it. None of our quiet four is near the capital: Hotel San Roque and Hacienda del Conde are on the north-west coast, Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden is above Puerto de la Cruz and Royal Garden Villas & Spa is in the south-west, so the nights stay calm; just book early.
