Tamarán, a family firm that has run Jeep trips around the Canaries for more than 33 years, collects from hotels or nearby points around Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje; GetYourGuide gives 08:20 at the free car park of the X-Sur shopping centre, Calle Lisboa 2, Costa Adeje, as the meeting point. The operator puts the day at about seven hours, 09:00 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday. No more than eight passengers ride in each four-wheel drive Jeep, each with its own driver, in a convoy of several.

The convoy climbs through La Camella and Arona to Vilaflor, at about 1,400 metres the highest village in the Canaries, then through the pines into Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. In the park the stops are the Roques de García, the tall rock towers beside the Parador, and a viewpoint over Pico Viejo, Teide's twin volcano, whose crater the operator puts at 800 metres across. The road then drops west past the Aripe and Chirche viewpoint and Chío to Tamaimo, where the group stops at a restaurant and you can order a set menu of local food. After lunch the Jeeps take the TF-436 from Santiago del Teide down to Masca, a hamlet of old stone houses in a ravine of the Teno massif, and return by Arguayo and Guía de Isora.

Inside the national park the Jeeps keep to the roads, as every vehicle must, so this is a day of views rather than dirt tracks. Their size counts on the Masca road: since May 2025 Tráfico has banned passenger vehicles longer than 10 metres from the TF-436, which it describes as narrow and steep, with very tight bends, and an eight seat Jeep goes all the way down into the hamlet.

The price covers the Jeep and its driver, explanations in your language, the pickup and civil liability insurance. Food and drink are extra, and the operator suggests bringing water, a coat, comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen. GetYourGuide's listing says the day is not suitable for people with back problems and does not allow oversized luggage.

Why this one

On GetYourGuide on 6 October 2026 this day was rated 4.6 from about 1,200 reviews, from 68 euros, the same as Tamarán's own price. What sets it apart is the vehicle: eight passengers at most to a Jeep, with a driver who knows the mountain roads, and a route that goes down into Masca itself. The big coach days cover more ground for less: the Teide National Park, Masca, Icod and Garachico tour was 58 euros for nine hours, rated 4.6 from about 3,100 reviews, and the Teide National Park full-day tour with pickup 59 euros for eight hours, rated 4.5 from about 1,900. The small-group Masca, Mount Teide and Los Gigantes cliffs tour, rated 4.9 from about 460 reviews, had a regular price of 99 euros for six and a half hours.

Book the Jeep day for Teide and Masca together, in a small vehicle, with someone else driving. For Teide's summit, our cable car tour, from 92 euros, rides to 3,555 metres. For the sky after dark, the sunset and stargazing evening is from 35 euros; to be at the wheel yourself, the Mustang convertible is from 125 euros; and our Los Gigantes boat trip sees Masca from the sea, with a swim in Masca bay.

Good for

  • Teide and Masca in one day, with someone else driving
  • Guests on the Las Américas and Costa Adeje coast, for the pickup
  • Anyone who would rather ride the Masca road in a Jeep than a coach

Not for

  • Anyone set on the summit or the cable car
  • Travellers prone to carsickness, or with back problems
  • Guests on the north coast: the meeting point is over an hour away

When to go

The national park decides this day: it is the high, cold part of the route, and the part snow can close. The table shows midday at the Roques de García, the main stop in the park, at 2,141 metres, month by month, from five years of historical weather modelled for that height. Masca, far lower in the Teno hills, is warmer in the afternoon all year: at 15:00 the median is 18.2°C in January and 27.7°C in August in the same data.

Temperature is the median at 12:00 at the Roques de García, with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud above the park at 12:00 (cloud lying below it, the sea of cloud, does not count); gusty, the share with gusts over 50 km/h in the model.

Winter snow, summer fire alerts

In winter the Cabildo can close the roads into the park for ice and snow, as it did in late February and early March 2026. In summer, during a fire alert, it can keep tourist vehicles off the TF-436 to Masca between 09:00 and 16:00, as it did from 30 July 2026. Either can change the route on the day, so check with the operator the evening before.

From our Tenerife hotels

Drive times are to the meeting point GetYourGuide gives, the X-Sur shopping centre car park on Calle Lisboa in Costa Adeje. The operator collects from hotels or nearby points in the Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje area, naming Fañabé, Torviscas, El Duque and San Eugenio, and confirms the spot after booking. Our Guía de Isora hotels are outside that area, and this tour has no departure from Puerto de la Cruz or the north coast.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Seeing Teide, Vilaflor and Masca in one day without driving the mountain roads
  • The change from the dry south to the green north-west, and the views from the stops
  • Drivers and guides with local knowledge and stories
  • The Teide stop and the lunch restaurant, praised even in critical reviews

Complaints

  • Too little time at some stops, and viewpoints passed without stopping

The catch

  1. Commentary in your language comes at the stops

Each Jeep has its own driver, who may not speak your language: the operator says the commentary in the language you booked is given at the stops, by the tour leader for the convoy.

What to do. Stay close to the tour leader at each stop. For a Jeep to yourselves, Tamarán also runs a private version of the same day.

  2. A road trip with a 4x4, not off road

The word safari suggests dirt tracks, but inside the national park every vehicle keeps to the roads, and the itinerary is villages and roadside viewpoints. The Jeep earns its place on the narrow road down to Masca.

What to do. Book it for the route and the views; for a summit day, take the cable car tour instead.

  3. The route can change on the day

Tamarán's terms let it adapt the route for road closures, sporting events or weather warnings, and say such a change does not in itself mean a full refund. In summer, during a fire alert, the Cabildo can keep tourist vehicles off the Masca road from 09:00 to 16:00, as it did from 30 July 2026.

What to do. In summer, ask the operator the evening before whether Masca is on the route, and move to another day if it is not.

  4. Snow and ice can close the park in winter

The Cabildo closed the TF-21 and TF-24 into the park for ice and snow on 27 February 2026, and again in early March, reopening on 5 March. Even on open days it is cold up there: at midday at the Roques de García the median in January is 7.8°C, against 20.0°C on the coast at the meeting point, in five years of modelled weather. If weather stops the tour, the operator offers a new date or a full refund.

What to do. From December to March, book early in your stay so there is time for a second try, and bring a warm layer whatever the weather on the coast.

  5. Small children need child seats

Spanish traffic rules require children 135 cm tall or under to ride in an approved child seat in vehicles like these Jeeps, and the listing does not say whether seats are supplied. The day is also seven hours, longer with the pickup.

What to do. Ask the operator about seats before you book, or bring your own; with small children, Tamarán's half-day Teide Jeep trip is the shorter choice.
