The catch at Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa
Monastero Santa Rosa is a 20-room convent hotel on the cliff at Conca dei Marini, and its catches come from the same two places: the price at the top of the coast, and a building and gardens laid out on a cliff. None of them is a reason to pass on the starred terrace and the pool, but each decides which room, which month and how you spend the evenings.

- Best hotels for food and drink on the Amalfi CoastIl Refettorio, starred since 2017, in the convent of the sfogliatella
The entry room costs about €1,320 a night in season, and the rate barely moves from May to October.
For one night on Tuesday 8 June 2027, for two, the Superior Room costs €1,320 with breakfast, and Conca dei Marini's tourist tax of €7 per person per night, €14 a night for two, is added and paid at the hotel. The rate holds at that level from mid-May to early October: July and August cost no more than June or September. The cheaper weeks are at either end of the season, when the same room costs €770 a night before the tax in April, the first days of May and late October. Every rate includes breakfast, the shuttle to Amalfi, parking, the pool and the thermal suite, so the bill grows mainly at dinner.
What to do. If the dates are open, go in April or early May, or in late October, when the entry room costs a little over half the summer rate. If it has to be summer, July and August cost the same as June, so choose the month for the weather and spend on the room.
The entry Superior Room has one sea-view window and a shower, and no outdoor space.
The Superior Rooms are 26 m² under vaulted ceilings, with a king bed, a sea-view window and a bathroom in Jerusalem stone with a walk-in shower. A bathtub starts one rung up, with the Deluxe Room, 26 to 28 m², which adds a bathroom window on the sea; a terrace starts with the Queen Terrace Room, 22 m² plus an 8 m² terrace on the top floor. Below the suites, nothing else has outdoor space. At €1,320 a night in June, the entry room is the plainest way into a hotel whose view over the Gulf of Salerno is the point, and it shows that view through a single window.
What to do. Book the Queen Terrace Room, €220 a night more on 8 June 2027, for a terrace with a table for two over the pool and the sea. If a king bed matters more than the terrace, take the Deluxe Room.
There is no beach, and the gardens and the path to the sea are all steps.
The hotel sits at the top of the cliff, and its gardens step down over four levels to the heated infinity pool cut into the rock, so getting from the rooms to the pool means stairs. The nearest swimming in the sea is at Marina di Conca, a small pebble beach and harbour below the village, 19 minutes on foot down stepped lanes, with a long, steep climb back. The hotel has no beach club of its own. The Rosa Suite's bedroom is up a curved staircase. Children are welcome only from the age of 16.
What to do. Treat the pool and the thermal suite as the beach. If stairs are hard for anyone in your party, tell the hotel before you book and ask how close to the pool and the restaurant your room is.
Beyond the hotel's own tables, almost every restaurant is a drive.
Only one trattoria is within a ten-minute walk of the hotel; everything else is 6 to 10 minutes away by car, in Amalfi, Atrani, Furore or Minori. The hotel runs a free shuttle to Amalfi until midnight, a drive of about 7 minutes, which covers Amalfi's restaurants and its ferries, but for Furore, Atrani or Minori you will want a taxi. Parking at the hotel is free if you hire a car. Il Refettorio serves dinner every evening, so a night in costs nothing in transport.
What to do. Book Il Refettorio for the evenings you want to stay in, use the shuttle for a night in Amalfi, and arrange taxis through the hotel for anywhere else.
The hotel closes for the winter, from early November to early April.
Monastero Santa Rosa opens from early April to late October. For 2027 the first night on sale is 8 April, and nothing can be booked from 1 to 11 November 2026 or from 31 March to 7 April 2027. The hotel does not publish its exact opening and closing days. The first and last weeks of the season are also the cheapest, at €770 a night for the entry room, against €1,320 from mid-May to early October, before the tax. Many restaurants along the coast follow the same calendar: Marina Grande in Amalfi, for one, opens from 9 March to 27 October 2026.
What to do. Plan the trip between April and October, and for the first or last weeks of the season, check that your dates can be booked before you plan the rest of the trip.
Who should skip it
Families with children under 16, anyone who needs step-free paths, anyone who wants a beach on the doorstep or restaurants and shops on foot, and anyone for whom €1,320 a night for a room with one window would spoil the stay.
Who should book it anyway
Couples, food lovers and anyone marking an occasion. This is a convent finished in 1681 on the cliff at Conca dei Marini, with 20 rooms under its vaulted ceilings, a terrace restaurant, Il Refettorio, that has held a MICHELIN star since 2017, and a MICHELIN Key for the hotel. Below the terrace, four levels of gardens step down to a heated infinity pool over the Gulf of Salerno, and the thermal suite in the 17th-century vaults is included in every rate, with breakfast, parking and the shuttle to Amalfi. Book the Queen Terrace Room, reserve dinner on the terrace, and the trade is easy to make.
