The Aceto family have grown lemons on this coast since 1825, the operator says, and this is their farm on Via delle Cartiere, in the valley that climbs behind Amalfi's cathedral. You check in at the Amalfi Lemon Experience shop at number 59, which you reach only on foot: the operator puts it about 14 minutes' walk, slightly uphill, from the cathedral, and GetYourGuide says 15 to 20 minutes from Piazza Duomo, where the restricted traffic zone begins.

From the shop the guide takes you up into terraces cut into the hillside over centuries, under pergolas of Sfusato Amalfitano lemons, the long, thick-skinned variety sold under the Limone Costa d'Amalfi Protected Geographical Indication. You see the farm workers at the trees and visit the workshops where the family makes limoncello, lemon jam and honey from its own bees. The operator says the farm follows ICEA's certified organic rules. Then comes the Museum of Rural Culture, Arts and Crafts, the family's collection of the tools, equipment, photographs and documents of terrace farming; it is open only as part of the tours. The visit ends with a tasting: lemons, lemon cake, lemonade and limoncello. Lemons and farm products are on sale at the end, and the farm can ship them home.

The context that makes the walk make sense comes from Italy's agriculture ministry: the PGI lemons grow on about 400 hectares in 12 coastal towns from Positano to Vietri sul Mare, on terraces where the trees were once covered with straw mats, pagliarelle, now mostly replaced by the green shade nets you see from the path. A PGI fruit must weigh at least 100 grams, and the highest-quality harvest comes between March and the end of July. The operator says the lemons ripen yellow on the trees from February to August; in the other months they are still green.

The tour lasts about 90 minutes and runs in English. On the operator's own schedule it leaves at 10:15 and at about 15:00, from March to October, for up to 30 people. On 27 October 2026 it cost from 35 euros on GetYourGuide, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before; the operator's own site sold the same shared tour for 30 euros, 15 euros for children aged 3 to 10.

Why this one

Two lemon tours in Amalfi itself sell well on GetYourGuide, and both belong to the Aceto family. This one, on the farm in the valley, was rated 4.8 from about 290 reviews on 27 October 2026, with the guides scored 4.9 out of 5, and it is the one with the limoncello workshop and the rural museum. The other, Lemons and Breathtaking Views: Amalfi Monumental Garden Tour, also costs from 35 euros and was rated 4.9 from about 190 reviews; it is a family-led walk through the family's historic garden a few steps above the centre, with lemonade, lemon cake and limoncello and a view over the town. Pick the garden for the view and the shorter walk from the seafront; pick this one for the working farm, the workshops and the museum.

If your date is fixed, booking direct on the operator's site saves 5 euros a head and gives half price for children aged 3 to 10, with payment on the day, but free cancellation closes 3 days before rather than 24 hours. If you want lunch with your lemons, our page Cooking class and farmhouse lunch above Amalfi starts with a walk through its own lemon grove, olive grove and vineyard and ends with a four-course meal, for 129 euros. At 90 minutes this tour leaves most of the day free, so it pairs well with a morning on the water, such as Kayak and snorkel to Pandora's Cave from Minori, or a lazy afternoon in Amalfi.

Good for

  • A first taste of the coast's lemons, its farming and its limoncello
  • Families with children who can manage steep steps
  • A short outing that leaves the rest of the day free

Not for

  • Anyone who finds stairs hard: the route climbs steep terraces
  • Children under 2, or anyone with heart or breathing problems, on GetYourGuide's own advice
  • Drivers hoping to park nearby: the farm is reached only on foot

Temperature is the median at 16:00 on the farm's hillside, with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud at 16:00; rain, the share of days with 1 mm of rain or more. Modelled from Open-Meteo history for 2021 to 2025.

Take the morning tour in high summer

In the data we looked at, the median temperature at 16:00 on the hillside was 27.0°C in June, 30.1°C in July and 29.1°C in August, and the walk climbs steep stairs. The operator's schedule has a 10:15 departure as well as the afternoon one. In April, May and October the afternoon sat between 15.9°C and 20.9°C, but rain fell on a third to two fifths of days, so bring a light jacket.

From our Amalfi Coast hotels

There is no pickup: GetYourGuide lists transport and parking as not included, and no vehicle can reach the farm. Drive times are routed from each hotel in our Amalfi Coast edit to Piazza Flavio Gioia, Amalfi's bus terminus by the ferry pier; OpenStreetMap's routing is optimistic on the coast road, so treat them as about. From there it is 15 to 20 minutes on foot past the cathedral. Two hotels can walk all the way: Hotel Marina Riviera in 19 minutes and Palazzo Pascal in Scala in 24, routed on foot. From Positano or Praiano the SITA bus or the Travelmar ferry (10 euros from Positano) is easier than a car; from Minori the ferry costs 5 euros.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Guides who know the farm and the history of the lemon, scored 4.9 out of 5
  • A real working farm, with the family's own products to taste and buy
  • Fair value for the price, scored 4.8 out of 5

Complaints

  • The walk up from town is longer and steeper than some expect

The catch

  1. Come on foot, not by car

The farm sits inside Amalfi's restricted traffic zone, which begins at Piazza Duomo, and has no parking; parking in Amalfi is scarce in season. Most of the lowest reviews come from guests who drove and missed their slot looking for a space. Google Maps' driving directions lead somewhere else entirely, the operator warns.

What to do. Arrive by SITA bus or ferry, set Google Maps to walking, and leave Piazza Duomo 25 minutes before your slot.

  2. Wear proper shoes

The route climbs terraces with some particularly steep stairs, and the operator turns away guests in heels or slippery soles.

What to do. Trainers or walking shoes, and a baby carrier rather than a pushchair.

  3. Summer afternoons are hot

In the weather data we looked at, the median at 16:00 on the hillside was 30.1°C in July and 29.1°C in August.

What to do. In June, July and August pick the 10:15 departure if the calendar offers it, and bring water and sunglasses.

  4. It is in English

GetYourGuide lists the tour in English with a live guide, and the operator has said in reply to a review that it does not offer French.

What to do. If English is hard going, ask the operator about your language before you book.

  5. Dogs live on the farm

The family's dogs roam freely, which is why guests' pets are not allowed.

What to do. Leave pets at the hotel, and mention it when you book if anyone in your group is nervous of dogs.
