The class is held in Amalfi Heaven Gardens, a farm of terraces on the slope above the coast road, about 2 km west of Amalfi's Duomo towards Positano. Hosts meet you by the roadside G.A.S. Bar 15 minutes before the start, holding an orange umbrella, and lead the group up the steps to the gardens. The operator runs classes from April to October, starting at 09:30, 10:00 or 10:30 in the morning and 14:30, 15:00 or 15:30 in the afternoon, and the whole thing takes about 4 hours.

It starts with a walk through the terraces: the lemon grove, the olive grove and the vineyard, where the guide explains how limoncello, olive oil and wine are made here, and then the vegetable garden, where you put on gloves, take a wicker basket and pick the vegetables and herbs for the class. In aprons, under a reed-roofed pergola, the chefs then take the group step by step through four dishes. The menu follows the season and the garden. The operator's list of likely dishes includes courgette flowers filled with ricotta and anchovies, scialatielli alla Norma, spaghetti alla Nerano, lemon ravioli filled with prawns, gnocchi alla Sorrentina and, for dessert, aubergine in chocolate.

Then everyone sits down to eat what they made, with water, local wine, Amalfi Coast limoncello and Neapolitan coffee. You leave with a cooking diploma, and the recipes follow by email. The operator says guests can stay on in the lemon grove afterwards, with a glass of wine, in hammocks looking over the coast.

The terraces are the reason the coast looks the way it does. The Italian agriculture ministry describes the Amalfi lemon, the Sfusato Amalfitano, protected as Limone Costa d'Amalfi PGI, as grown in all twelve comuni of the coast on terraces cut from the rock, which also hold the slopes together, with the highest-quality crop picked between March and late July. On 27 October 2026 the class cost from 129 euros on GetYourGuide.

Why this one

On 27 October 2026 this was the most reviewed cooking class on the Amalfi Coast that we found on GetYourGuide, with about 490 reviews and a rating of 5.0; the hosts scored 5.0 out of 5 and value for money 4.9, and GetYourGuide said 98% of English-speaking guests gave it full marks. It is the one we would book: the garden picking, four courses and the view are all in the price. Booking direct on the Amalfi Heaven Gardens site costs 125 euros in April and October and 135 euros from May to September, already 10 euros off the walk-in price, so direct is 4 euros cheaper in the shoulder months and GetYourGuide 6 euros cheaper in summer, on the from-price.

The rivals on GetYourGuide each suit someone else. Praiano: Cooking Class with Dinner Overlooking the Sea is an evening class with a transfer from Positano or Marina di Praia, rated 4.9 from about 110 reviews, from 184 euros. Amalfi Coast: Pasta & Tiramisù Class with Mozzarella Option, at a farm in Pianillo up in Agerola, is the cheap one, rated 4.9 from about 100 reviews, from 40 euros for 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the option. Positano: Pasta & Tiramisu Cooking Class at a Local's Home, rated 4.8 from about 70, costs from 169 euros. If you want the lemons without the cooking, our page A terraced lemon farm tour with tastings in Amalfi takes 1.5 hours for 35 euros; and the same operator runs the Amalfi Coast and Positano small-boat trip with snorkelling.

Good for

  • Anyone staying in Amalfi or Conca dei Marini, 2 to 5 minutes away by car
  • Families with children aged 8 and over
  • Couples and friends who want a long lunch with a view more than a cookery lesson

Not for

  • Children under 8: they cannot enter the venue at all
  • Coeliacs and anyone lactose intolerant: the only special menu is vegetarian
  • Anyone who finds stairs and steep, uneven paths hard going

Temperature is the median at 12:00 at the gardens, with the coldest day in ten after it. Rainy days is the share of days with 1 mm of rain or more, modelled from Open-Meteo history for 2021 to 2025.

Rain is what moves a class

The garden walk and the pergola kitchen are outdoors. In the data we looked at, 41% of days in April and May had 1 mm of rain or more, against 14% in July. The operator says it may shorten or cancel a class in steady rain or strong wind, with a full refund or a move to another day, but does not refund a guest's own cancellation inside 24 hours for a poor forecast. At 12:00 the median was 30.1°C in July and 29.1°C in August.

From our Amalfi Coast hotels

Drive times are routed from each hotel in our Amalfi Coast edit to the G.A.S. Bar on the coast road, where the class meets; there is no hotel pickup. They are free-road times from FOSSGIS Valhalla, and the SS163 is slower in summer traffic, so read the Positano and Ravello rows as about. The operator does not recommend driving, as there are very few parking spaces. On foot, routed on OpenStreetMap, it is 21 minutes from Borgo Santandrea, 25 from Monastero Santa Rosa and 31 from Hotel Marina Riviera; from Amalfi the operator suggests the SITA bus towards Sorrento, Agerola or Pogerola, 3 minutes, asking the driver for the G.A.S. Bar stop. From Positano and Praiano take the bus towards Amalfi and ask for the same stop.

Complaints

    The catch

    1. It is a walk or a bus ride from Amalfi, and there is no pickup

The gardens are on the coast road about 2 km west of Amalfi's Duomo, a 27-minute walk routed on OpenStreetMap, and transfers are not included. The operator suggests the SITA bus from Amalfi towards Sorrento, Agerola or Pogerola, 3 minutes, with tickets bought before you board. Parking at the G.A.S. Bar is very limited, and the operator warns that cars left on the road can be removed by the police.

What to do. Buy bus tickets the day before and ask the driver for the G.A.S. Bar stop, or book a taxi; leave the car at the hotel.

    2. Stairs before the first course

The class is up a flight of steps from the road, and the gardens are terraces with stairs and uneven, steep surfaces. The operator says it is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or for wheelchair users.

What to do. Wear comfortable shoes with grip, and bring a sun hat and sunscreen, as the operator asks.

    3. Book the earliest day you can

The garden and the kitchen are outdoors. The operator may shorten, move or cancel a class in steady rain or strong wind, refunding in full, and recommends booking early in your stay so a cancelled class can move to another day.

What to do. Book it for your first or second day on the coast, not your last.

    4. Vegetarian, yes; gluten-free, no

A vegetarian menu is available if you ask when booking, but other diets, such as gluten or lactose intolerance, cannot be catered for.

What to do. Put a vegetarian request and any allergy in the booking notes; with coeliac disease, choose another class.

    5. Eight and over, and everyone pays

Children under 8 cannot enter, and every guest who comes, whether cooking or only keeping someone company, pays the full class price.

What to do. Book a place for each person who comes, and plan something else for younger children.
