You choose your pier when you book. The half-day trips leave from Amalfi, from the Darsena pier at Lungomare dei Cavalieri 46, or from Positano, meeting at Ristorante Le Tre Sorelle on the Spiaggia Grande, and last 4 hours. Two full-day options of about 8 hours leave from Sorrento, at Ristorante Ruccio on Piazza Marinai d'Italia, and from Salerno, at the Travelmar boarding point by Piazza della Concordia. The boat is a gozzo, the traditional wooden motor boat of this coast, with a canopy for shade, a toilet and a freshwater shower aboard, and at most 12 guests.
The half days cruise the stretch between the two towns. GetYourGuide's itinerary runs past Amalfi, Conca dei Marini, Furore and its fjord, Praiano and Positano, and the operator says the boat noses into sea grottoes and under natural rock arches that can only be reached from the water. There are several stops to swim and snorkel; masks, snorkels and floats are on board. Between stops the crew serves fresh fruit, water, soft drinks, beer, prosecco and Amalfi Coast limoncello, all included. The captains and guides speak English and Italian.
The full days from Sorrento and Salerno add the run along the coast to reach it, plus about an hour and a half ashore in Positano and another in Amalfi, where lunch is at your own expense. If you are staying on the coast itself, the half day from the nearer of Amalfi or Positano gives you the same sea for half the time.
The sea is the point. On land the coast has one road, the SS163, about 40 km of bends cut into the cliff from Vietri sul Mare to Positano; from the water you see the towns stacked up the hillside in one view, and the operator says the swim stops are coves that only boats reach. UNESCO inscribed the Amalfi Coast as a World Heritage Site in 1997.
Why this one
On 27 October 2026 this was the most reviewed of the small-group boat trips leaving from Amalfi or Positano that we found on GetYourGuide: rated 4.9 from about 2,700 reviews, from 99 euros, with 94% of English-speaking guests giving it full marks. The closest like-for-like rival, the gozzo tour with caves and drinks from Amalfi or Salerno, was rated 4.8 from 1,230 reviews and started at 148 euros for 4 to 6 hours. The 7-hour Salerno day trip by gozzo was rated 4.9 from 521 reviews, from 164 euros: good if you are staying in Salerno, a long way round if you are not. We could not find the operator's own booking site, so we cannot say whether booking direct is cheaper.
Pick a different page in our set if this is not quite your day. Kayak and snorkel to Pandora's Cave from Minori, rated 5.0 from about 270 reviews at 55 euros, is for confident swimmers who want to work for it. Positano sunset cruise to the Furore fjord, with prosecco, our golden hour pick, was rated 4.8 from about 310 reviews, from 70 euros for 1.5 hours. For Capri and the Blue Grotto, see Capri and the Blue Grotto by small boat, with pickup in Positano, or take the public ferry from Positano, covered on our Positano to Capri ferry page.

Waves are the median of each day's highest wave between 11:00 and 15:00 at sea off Praiano; calm sea, the share of days when they stay under 1 metre. Air temperature is the median at 13:00 in Amalfi, with the coldest day in ten after it; sea, the median sea temperature at midday.
The water is warmest from June to October
In the data we looked at, the sea off the coast averaged about 24°C in June, 27°C in July and August and 23°C in October, against about 17°C in April. The sea stayed under 1 metre on nine days in ten or more from May to September.
From our Amalfi Coast hotels
Each hotel is routed to the nearer of the two half-day departures. Palazzo Murat and Le Sirenuse are a walk down to the Positano meeting point at Le Tre Sorelle on the Spiaggia Grande, and Hotel Marina Riviera a walk to the Darsena pier in Amalfi. The rest are drive times: Il San Pietro to Positano, where the road ends above the beach and the last few minutes are on foot; Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Ravello, Scala and Minori to Amalfi. The routing is optimistic on the coast road, so treat the drive times as about and allow longer in summer traffic. The walks and drives match our hotel pages. There is no pickup.

The catch
Pick the pier nearest your hotel
The same listing sells four departures: half days of 4 hours from Amalfi or Positano, and full days of about 8 hours from Sorrento or Salerno. The meeting point, the length of the day and the price all change with the option.
What to do. Staying in Positano, book the Positano option; in Amalfi, Ravello, Scala, Minori or Conca dei Marini, book Amalfi. Check the option name before you pay.
The season opens in April
On 27 October 2026 GetYourGuide's calendar for this trip showed no dates until 6 April 2027, then daily departures through the summer.
What to do. If your dates fall between November and March, look at the other pages in our set and check each calendar. For June to September, book ahead.
The sea can change the route
In the sea data we looked at, the waves off Praiano reached 1 metre on about one day in four in April, against almost never in June and July. On a small boat a rough sea can change the plan on the day.
What to do. Book early in your stay so a rough day leaves time for another date; cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
The swims are in open water
The stops are off the boat, in deep water, not from a beach. Floats, masks and snorkels are on board.
What to do. Non-swimmers and young children should ask for a float at the first stop and stay with an adult; bring swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen.
Lunch is your own on the full days
Fruit and drinks are included on every option. On the Sorrento and Salerno days, lunch is in Positano or Amalfi during the free time and is not included.
What to do. Eat before a morning half day; on a full day, have a lunch spot in mind so you are not queuing through your hour and a half.
