Fuerteventura Airport (FUE)

Fuerteventura Airport

Fuerteventura Airport sits at El Matorral, 5 km south of Puerto del Rosario on the island's east coast, and handled 6,886,938 passengers in 2025. It has one terminal on two floors: arrivals, check-in and the kerb on Floor 0, the boarding area with its shops, terraces and the Jable lounge on Floor 1. It is easy to get through; what is worth knowing is which side the buses leave from, how the taxi meter works and that nobody announces your gate. Here is the airport in both directions.

The 30-second version

Fuerteventura has one terminal: arrivals, check-in and the kerb on Floor 0, the gates, shops and lounge on Floor 1. On arrival the taxi rank and the nine car hire desks are by arrivals, but the Tiadhe buses (lines 3, 10 and 16) stop outside departures on the same floor, and the driver wants cash. Flying home, Aena says be there three hours ahead for the UK and other non-Schengen flights and two for Spain and Schengen; the Fast Lane costs €11.10 from 05:45 to 22:30, and the Jable lounge €45.95. There are no gate announcements, so watch the screens.

Landing to kerb

Every pick-up point, terminal by terminal
  1. Passport control, if you come from outside Schengen

Flights from the UK and other non-Schengen countries go through passport control after you leave the aircraft. The EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully running since 10 April 2026: on your first entry you register four fingerprints and a photo at the border, and the record lasts three years. Children under 12 are not fingerprinted.

  2. Baggage reclaim and customs

There is one baggage hall with 13 carousels, one of them for special baggage; the screens show yours. For a lost or damaged bag, go to your airline's handling desk before you leave the hall. Arriving from outside the EU, the UK included, you pass customs in the same area.

  3. The arrivals hall

The meeting points are on Floor 0, which is where a pre-booked driver waits, and the tour operators' desks are in the terminal. La Isla Café serves coffee and pastries landside in arrivals, and Carrefour City, open 07:00 to 21:00, has water and supplies for the first night.

  4. Taxis

The rank is outside arrivals on Floor 0. Aena advises taking a taxi only from the signed rank and asking for a receipt. There are no fixed airport fares: a trip out of Puerto del Rosario runs on the Canary interurban meter, €3.85 minimum for the first 1.5 km and €1.35 a km from 06:00 to 22:00 on working days, €4.25 and €1.55 at night, on Sundays and on holidays, plus €2.10 for an airport pick-up. By day that comes to about €15 for Caleta de Fuste, €20 for Elba Palace and €55 for Corralejo.

  5. Buses: walk to the departures side

Tiadhe's island buses stop outside departures on Floor 0, not outside arrivals, so turn along the building to the check-in end. Line 3 links the airport with Puerto del Rosario, Caleta de Fuste and Las Salinas two or three times an hour until 23:00 (€1.45 from the capital to Caleta de Fuste); line 10 calls a few times a day on its way to Morro Jable (€9.70 from the capital); line 16 runs to Gran Tarajal. Pay the driver in cash: no note over €50, and none worth more than five times the fare.

  6. Car hire, cash and a SIM

Aena lists AutoReisen, Avis, Cicar, Europcar, Goldcar-InterRent, Hertz, Payless, Sixt and TopCar, all with desks on Floor 0 by arrivals. Euronet cash machines are in the arrivals hall and the departures hall on Floor 0. To sort out an eSIM, join 'Airport Free Wifi Aena' and confirm your email within 15 minutes; after that the connection has no time limit.

Kerb to gate

  1. How early

Aena's rule here is three hours before departure for non-Schengen flights, the UK included, and two hours for Spain and the Schengen countries. Your airline sets the bag-drop deadline. If you need assistance, request it at least 48 hours ahead and be at the meeting point two hours before your flight.

  2. Getting there

By bus, line 3 runs from Puerto del Rosario, Caleta de Fuste and Las Salinas and drops at departures. Returning a hire car full? The petrol station at the airport is open from 06:00 to 22:00.

  3. Check-in and bag drop

The check-in desks are on the ground floor and the screens show yours. With hand luggage only and a boarding pass on your phone, go straight to security; some airlines charge to reissue a boarding pass at the airport.

  4. Security, and the Fast Lane

Security leads up to the boarding area on Floor 1. The Fast Lane costs €11.10 on Aena's VIP site and runs from 05:45 to 22:30; a pass is valid for three months. Children aged 0 to 5 go through free with an adult who has one, and it is included for business-class passengers and holders of some airline loyalty cards.

  5. Passport control and the screens

Flights to non-Schengen countries, the UK included, go through passport control, and it comes after the main shops and the lounge, so leave time for it. gov.uk advises allowing extra time on departure under the Entry/Exit System. Aena makes no announcements about boarding gates or gate changes: watch the screens.

  6. Where to wait

Floor 1 has the cafés and bars, two open-air terraces with food, drink and a smoking area, and the Jable lounge near gates 5 and 7. Artesanía y producto local Fuerteventura, open 08:00 to 22:00, sells the island's cheeses, wine and palm and clay crafts to take home, and there are drinking fountains around the terminal.

The catch: no gate announcements

No. Aena states that Fuerteventura airport makes no announcements about boarding gates or gate changes, so the screens are the only source. Check your gate before you settle on a terrace or in the lounge, and remember that on a UK or other non-Schengen flight you still have passport control to clear after the lounge.

Insider notes

The buses do not leave from arrivals. Lines 3, 10 and 16 stop outside departures on Floor 0, so walk along the front of the building rather than waiting by the taxi rank.

For Corralejo there is no airport bus most of the day: take line 3 into Puerto del Rosario and change to line 6, which runs about every 30 minutes for much of the day from Monday to Saturday, for €3.40. Some weekday line 6 runs call at the airport itself, €3.90.

Carry coins and small notes for the bus: drivers take no note over €50, and none worth more than five times the fare. Staying a while? The BtF card, €5 on board, takes 10% off every fare.

Travelling with children

It is a single terminal and easy to get round. There are children's play areas on both floors and two breast-feeding lounges with a bottle preparation area and a family bathroom. Children aged 0 to 5 go through the Fast Lane and into the Jable lounge free; those aged 6 to 10 pay €21.25 for the lounge, which has its own children's area.

Step-free travel and assistance

Aena's free assistance service starts from the information points and the signposted assistance desks. Request it at least 48 hours ahead through your airline or travel agent, Aena's website or app, or on +34 91 321 10 00 (07:00 to midnight), arrive two and a half hours before departure and be at the meeting point two hours before. Accessible toilets are throughout the terminal, and Aena's hidden disabilities badge is recognised by airport staff.

Delays and your rights

Flights from Fuerteventura fall under EU rules. Arrive three hours or more late and you can claim €250 on flights up to 1,500 km, €400 on longer flights within the EU and other flights of 1,500 to 3,500 km, and €600 beyond (€300 if you arrive three to four hours late), unless the airline proves extraordinary circumstances. After a delay of two to four hours, depending on distance, the airline owes you meals and drinks, and a hotel if you are moved to the next day.

An early flight or a late landing

There is no hotel at the terminal. The closest is one of our ten, El Mirador de Fuerteventura on Playa Blanca, about 5 minutes away by car. For an early flight, the Jable lounge opens at 05:30, the Fast Lane at 05:45 and Zarauz and La Manon at 06:30. Landing late, the last line 3 buses with airport access leave Puerto del Rosario at 23:00 and Las Salinas at 23:15, or 22:00 on Sundays and holidays; after that it is the taxi rank or a driver booked ahead.

Getting to our hotels

The airport is in the middle of a long island, so the drive depends on which end you stay at: off-peak, El Mirador is 5 minutes away and Elba Palace in Caleta de Fuste 16, the three Corralejo hotels 36 to 38 minutes, ZEL and Paradisus at Sotavento 64, and Iberostar, Royal Palm and Riu Palace Jandía in the south 72 to 78. Our transfers page has the bus, taxi, transfer and hire-car options for each of our hotels.
