The take on Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa

It opened in 2004 as the Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahía Real, a resort on the shore at the southern end of Corralejo. Its owner, Hotel Investment Partners, spent more than €10 million on the rooms and public areas, and on 1 December 2021 it reopened as Secrets Bahía Real, the first Secrets resort on Fuerteventura, now part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection. It is for adults only, from 16, with 243 rooms and suites. It is sold above all as all-inclusive under the Unlimited-Luxury name, with half-board rates as well.

There are no standard doubles. The entry rooms are Junior Suites of 36 m², each with a furnished balcony, in three versions: the plain Junior Suite, whose view the hotel does not specify, the Pool View and the Frontal Ocean View. The Deluxe Junior Suites are nearly 48 m², with a furnished terrace and a bath as well as a shower, over the gardens or the sea. Most rooms have ocean views. The Preferred Club adds a private lounge, butler service in its areas, breakfast in a private corner of the Market Café and its own suites, up to a Presidential Suite of about 169 m². You choose the exact room on the hotel's platform after booking.

It is chosen as the grown-up resort of the north. The grounds run down to Playa de las Agujas, a public cove of fine golden sand with volcanic rock at the water's edge, the northern edge of the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park begins just across the road to the south, and the sea view takes in Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote across the strait. Two large pools sit in tropical gardens. The spa covers more than 2,500 m² and works with Natura Bissé: a hydrotherapy circuit, a hammam for the rasul ritual, a sauna, a steam bath and an outdoor Jacuzzi. Seven restaurants, two of them on the beach, run from Chozo's Canarian and Majorero cooking and Himitsu's teppanyaki and sushi bar to Ólio at the top of the hotel and Nebbiolo for pasta and pizza, and there is live music every night.

The trade is distance and extras. The harbour and old centre of Corralejo are 37 minutes on foot, so most evenings in town start with a taxi. Every spa service costs extra on every board, The Bay Lounge sits outside the all-inclusive, and the four à la carte dinners need booking ahead, with long trousers for men. Book it for a week of sea views, pools and long dinners without children, take the all-inclusive if you want the restaurants, and keep a day for the ferry to Lobos.

Junior Suite Pool View at Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa: two single beds made up side by side under a ceiling fan, with a desk, a sitting area and a sliding door to the balcony

Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa: the room to book, Junior Suite Pool View

It is the same 36 m² suite as the entry Junior Suite, with the same furnished balcony and a king-size bed or two singles, but where the entry suite comes with no stated view, this one has its balcony over the pools and the palm gardens. It faces the pool, not the sea, so Lobos and Lanzarote are a stroll through the gardens away rather than the view from your chair.

Ask for
Choose the exact suite yourself on the hotel's room-selection platform after booking, and use it as soon as it opens. If the sea matters more than the pools, the Junior Suite Frontal Ocean View is the same 36 m² turned to the sea, and the Junior Suite Deluxe Frontal Ocean View is nearly 48 m² with a furnished terrace over the sea and a bath as well as a shower.
Avoid
The plain Junior Suite, since the hotel does not say what it faces; for the same 36 m² and balcony, the Pool View at least tells you what you will see.
