The take on Corralejo Surfing Colors Hotel & Apartments
Corralejo Surfing Colors Hotel & Apartments is a complex on Calle Pejín, a side street in the north-west of Corralejo, between the town and the reefs of the Bristol coast. Built around a heated pool, it mixes hotel rooms with one-bedroom apartments and is aimed squarely at active travellers. There is a coworking room, a solarium for sunbathing, bicycles to hire and a partner gym 15 metres away, for a fee.
The rooms are modern and simple, with parquet floors, rain showers and a balcony or terrace in every category. The entry Surfing Room is about 26 m², faces the street and has twin beds, a sofa bed, a mini fridge and a ceiling fan. The Sky Pool rooms, 26 to 30 m², look over the pool and add air conditioning and a kettle; the Sky Sea View is 30 m² with a side view of the sea. At the top, the Sky Suite has 45 m², a 200 cm double bed, a jacuzzi and daily cleaning. The Sweet Home apartments, 40 m², put two single beds behind a door and a living room with a two-ring hob and a microwave in front.
The reason to book is the surf. The hotel sells three- and five-day surf packages on its own site, taught by Protest Surf Center, a Corralejo school that collects pupils from the hotel, supplies the board and wetsuit and picks the beach each day to suit your level; you fix the exact days with the school. For kitesurfing it points you to Fuerte Active, a Corralejo kite school with no more than two pupils per instructor. Once you can surf, the Bristol break, a left and a right over volcanic reef at its best in winter, is a 20-minute walk along the coast or 6 minutes by car, and the Grandes Playas dunes are 14 minutes' drive. Back at base there are free yoga classes, a weekly paella or barbecue with live music, and a pool bar for smoothies, homemade pizzas and sandwiches. A June night for two starts at about €95 room only, and breakfast can be added.
The trade is simple comfort and a short walk to the sand. The nearest beach, a small one by the harbour, is 8 minutes on foot, and the Lobos ferry 16 minutes. The cheapest room has a fan, not air conditioning, and most rooms are cleaned every other day rather than daily. Book it for a week of lessons and early sessions, as friends, a couple or a remote worker who wants the sea before the laptop. For a room on the beach, or a resort that does everything, look elsewhere.
