London after dark: the best evening from each of our ten hotels
London's best evenings are spread from Westminster to Bethnal Green, and the one to book depends on where you sleep. For each hotel in our London edit we chose the best evening nearby from our things-to-do list, routed the trip there, and set out the price with fees, the start times and the time you are back at the hotel.

The short answer
From six of our ten hotels, the best evening nearby is a walk of 20 minutes or less, and from the other four it is a taxi of 6 to 10 minutes. The closest is Candlelight at Southwark Cathedral, a 5-minute walk from Shangri-La The Shard, London, from £13.65 with fees. The cheapest is Soho Comedy Factory, an 8-minute walk from Hazlitt's, at £10 from Sunday to Thursday with no booking fee.
Most of these evenings end between 20:00 and 22:45, so you are back at the hotel well before midnight. The latest is a Friday or Saturday 21:30 session at Moonshine Saloon, which ends at 23:15 and has you back at The Ned by about 23:30. On Friday and Saturday nights the Night Tube runs on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Windrush lines, TfL says.

What only this guide tells you
Door to door, with the time you are back
Lists of things to do in London at night skip the question that decides the evening: how far it is from where you sleep. We started from the hotel. For each of our ten hotels we routed the trip on OpenStreetMap to the venues of the five evenings in our London things-to-do list, using the coordinates Fever gives for each venue. We gave the walking time where it was about 20 minutes or less and the taxi time without traffic where it was not. Then we read each evening's start times and length on Fever and added the trip home, so the table shows when you are back at the hotel, not only when the doors open.
The result is one evening per hotel. Six are walks, from 5 minutes (Shangri-La The Shard, London to Southwark Cathedral) to 20 (Sea Containers London to the same cathedral along the river). The longest taxi is 10 minutes, from The Standard, London and The Zetter Marylebone.
The best evening from each hotel
What is there to do in London at night near my hotel?
One evening per hotel, chosen from our London things-to-do list for how close it is and how good the night is. Every price is the lowest ticket on Fever for that evening with the booking fee included, read on 30 October 2026. The last column gives the end time of the session we would book and the time you are back at the hotel by the same route, without traffic or a drink afterwards.
Six of the ten are walks: Shangri-La The Shard, London to Southwark Cathedral in 5 minutes, Hazlitt's to Soho Comedy Factory in 8, The Ned to Moonshine Saloon in 13, Claridge's to Soho Comedy Factory in 18, Town Hall Hotel to The Murdér Express in 19 and Sea Containers London to Southwark Cathedral in 20. From the other four, the taxi is 6 to 10 minutes.

The City: The Ned
What is the best evening near The Ned or Liverpool Street?
From The Ned, walk 13 minutes east to Moonshine Saloon at 28-30 Houndsditch, between Liverpool Street and Aldgate. It is a Wild West saloon run by Inventive Productions, the company behind Alcotraz: you bring a new, sealed bottle of spirit, about 35cl for every two guests, the saloon tailor puts you in a Stetson and Western clothes, and the barkeeps turn your bottle into three or four rounds of cocktails while actors play out a bootlegging plot around you. It is rated 4.7 from 1,384 reviews on Fever, and a Rookie ticket is £41.04 with fees from Tuesday to Thursday at 19:05, £47.52 to £50.76 on Friday and Saturday evenings. Every session lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, so the 19:05 start has you back at the hotel by about 21:05, in time for the live music on The Nickel Stage in Nickel Bar, which the hotel says runs until late.
For the latest night in this guide, book the Friday or Saturday 21:30 session: out at 23:15, back at The Ned by about 23:30. No food is served at the saloon, so eat first; Cecconi's at the hotel serves until midnight most nights.
The Murdér Express is the other evening from The Ned, 8 minutes by taxi to Pedley Street, and Candlelight at Southwark Cathedral is a 14-minute walk south across London Bridge.

- Buy the bottle on the way, and keep it sealedThe producer turns away opened bottles. One spirit for the whole group makes the bar team's job easier, and wine or beer is accepted too. Everyone needs ID: it is 18 and over.
- Under-18s and Nickel BarThe Ned does not admit guests under 18 to Nickel Bar after 20:00, the hotel's own page says, and after 20:00 children may dine only in Electric Bar & Diner or Kaia, with their parents.
London Bridge and the South Bank: Shangri-La The Shard and Sea Containers London
What is the best evening near London Bridge or the South Bank?
Shangri-La The Shard, London has the shortest trip in this guide: Southwark Cathedral is a 5-minute walk, and London Bridge station is two minutes from its door. Candlelight here is a string quartet at the head of the nave in a Gothic church built between 1220 and 1420, playing an hour of one artist by candlelight. It is also the cheaper of our two Candlelight rooms: restricted-view seats are £13.65 with fees for Christmas Movie Soundtracks on Thursday 17 December, The Beatles on Saturday 30 January, Adele on Friday 19 February and Fleetwood Mac on 19 February and Saturday 13 March 2027, and Zone C, the rear of the nave, starts at £27.82 for Olivia Dean on 17 December. Concerts start at 19:00 or 21:00 and run for 60 minutes without an interval. After a 21:00 concert you are back at the hotel by about 22:05, and up to GŎNG on level 52, the highest hotel bar in Western Europe, for a last drink over the lights.
The dates on sale on 30 October 2026, all at Southwark: Hip-Hop on Strings on Friday 27 November at 21:00 and Saturday 9 January at 21:00; Florence + the Machine on 27 November and Saturday 2 January at 19:00; Fleetwood Mac on Saturday 28 November at 19:00, 19 February at 21:00 and 13 March at 19:00; Leonard Cohen at 21:00 on 28 November, 2 January and 13 March; Christmas Movie Soundtracks on 17 December at 19:00 and Saturday 19 December at 19:00 and 21:00; Olivia Dean on 17 December at 21:00 and 9 January at 19:00; The Beatles on 30 January and Lola Young on Saturday 6 February, both at 21:00; and Adele on 19 February at 19:00.
From Sea Containers London, the same cathedral is a 20-minute walk east along the river, or 5 minutes by taxi. A 19:00 concert has you back by about 20:20, in good time for Lyaness downstairs, which runs to midnight from Monday to Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday and takes walk-ins when it has space. If you would rather see the dome of Central Hall Westminster, it is 7 minutes from the hotel by taxi.

- Arrive when the doors openCandlelight seats are not numbered: you take any free seat in your zone as you arrive. Doors open 45 minutes before the concert, and nobody is let in late.
- Book GŎNG for the same eveningThe bar on level 52 keeps a 90-minute table time, and a window seat is a request, not a promise, so book it when you book the concert.
East London: Town Hall Hotel
What is the best evening near Bethnal Green or Shoreditch?
From Town Hall Hotel, the evening to book is The Murdér Express at Pedley Street Station, a railway arch on the Bethnal Green side of Shoreditch, 19 minutes on foot or 4 minutes by taxi. It is a comic murder mystery set on a 1937 train: you board a mock dining carriage with eight booths, screens in the windows show the countryside going by, and the actors play passengers and crew while a three-course dinner by Lunar is served between the scenes. It is rated 4.7 from 1,913 reviews on Fever. A standard ticket is £92.90 with fees on Thursdays and Fridays and £99.50 on Saturday evenings, dinner included and drinks extra; groups pay less, at £79.90 a head in a Group Carriage for four and £74.90 for six, and sit together in one booth.
In the weeks Fever showed on 30 October 2026, shows ran on Thursdays and Fridays at 18:00 and 20:30, on Saturdays at 12:30, 15:00, 17:30 and 20:00 and on Sundays at 14:30 and 17:00, with sessions on sale to 24 January 2027. The evening lasts two hours from when the doors open, 10 to 15 minutes before your ticket time, so a 20:30 ticket has you out by about 22:20 and back at the hotel by about 22:25 by taxi. Silk Weaver, the hotel's cocktail bar opposite Da Terra, opens from 17:00, Wednesday to Sunday.
On a Wednesday, when the train does not run, Moonshine Saloon is 8 minutes from the hotel by taxi, with a 19:05 session from Tuesday to Thursday.

- Arrive on time, not earlyDoors open 10 to 15 minutes before the ticket time, and the producer says there is nowhere to shelter outside the arch. Bethnal Green station is about 7 minutes' walk from the arch, the producer says.
- Book the Group CarriageIf you are four or six, buy the group ticket in one order: it costs less a head and keeps you in one booth. Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded, but can be passed to someone else in the Fever app.
Soho and Mayfair: Hazlitt's and Claridge's
What is the best evening near Soho or Mayfair?
From Hazlitt's, walk 8 minutes to Soho Comedy Factory at The Coach House on Oxendon Street, two minutes from Piccadilly Circus. It is stand-up every night of the week in a small first-floor room: a host and four to six comedians from the working UK circuit, with a short interval, for about 1 hour 45 minutes. It is rated 4.8 from 513 reviews on Fever, level with Fleetwood Mac at Central Hall as the best-rated evening in this guide, and tickets are £10 from Sunday to Thursday and for the Saturday 17:00 show and £14 on Friday and Saturday evenings, with no booking fee. Shows start at 19:30 from Monday to Wednesday, 20:00 on Thursday and Friday, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00 on Saturday and 19:00 on Sunday. The Saturday 21:00 show ends at about 22:45 and has you back at Hazlitt's by about 22:55, where the Library honesty bar and the gin bar in the Wardrobe are for guests only.
From Claridge's, the same club is an 18-minute walk through Mayfair, or 5 minutes by taxi. After a 19:30 show you are back by about 21:35, with hours to spare at Claridge's Bar and The Fumoir, open until 1am from Monday to Saturday and until midnight on Sunday. For something seated and quiet instead, Candlelight at Central Hall Westminster is 8 minutes from Claridge's by taxi.

- Get there 30 minutes earlySeats are unreserved and the comedy room opens only 10 minutes before the start; the bar downstairs opens an hour before. Sit a few rows back if you would rather not be spoken to from the stage.
- Book the weekend aheadThe club says Saturday is the night it most often turns people away. Early in the week you can usually decide on the day. Every show is 18 and over.
King's Cross: The Standard, London
What is the best evening near King's Cross?
None of our five evenings is a walk from The Standard, London, but Soho Comedy Factory is 10 minutes by taxi, the closest of them, and the Piccadilly line runs direct from King's Cross St Pancras, opposite the hotel, to Piccadilly Circus, two minutes from the club. A Thursday or Friday 20:00 show ends at about 21:45, and you are back by about 21:55, in time for the hotel's own late night: the Library Lounge downstairs keeps going until 2am from Thursday to Saturday, Decimo serves dinner until 1am on Thursday and 2am on Friday and Saturday, and Sweeties, the cocktail bar and discotheque on the tenth floor, is open from Wednesday to Saturday for over-18s.
For a bigger evening, Candlelight at Central Hall Westminster is 13 minutes away by taxi, and The Murdér Express and Candlelight at Southwark Cathedral are 14 each.

Pimlico, Marylebone and Paddington: Artist Residence London, The Zetter Marylebone and The Pilgrm
What is the best evening near Pimlico, Marylebone or Paddington?
From Artist Residence London, Candlelight at Central Hall Westminster is 6 minutes by taxi or a 23-minute walk. A string quartet plays an hour of film or pop music in the round under the dome of the Great Hall, which seats about 2,300, with tiers of candles rising behind. Restricted-view seats start at £21 with fees and Zone C, the middle of the balcony and the zone we would book, at £35.70 for Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac is the best-rated Candlelight show in London on our list, 4.8 from 261 reviews, on Friday 6 November at 21:00 and Saturday 30 January at 18:30. The Best of Hans Zimmer, the most reviewed at 4.6 from 8,478, plays on 31 October and 28 November at 21:00, 5 December at 18:30 and 30 January 2027 at 21:00. After a 21:00 concert you are back by about 22:10, and on Fridays and Saturdays the hotel's ground-floor cocktail bar runs to midnight.
The other Central Hall dates on sale on 30 October 2026: Ed Sheeran & Coldplay on 31 October at 18:30 and 5 December and 9 January at 21:00; Queen vs. ABBA at 18:30 on 6 November, 28 November, 9 January, 27 February and 20 March; Christmas Classics on 12 and 18 December at 18:30 and 21:00; and Coldplay at 18:30 and a Valentine's Day Special at 21:00, both on 13 February 2027.
From The Zetter Marylebone, the same hall is 10 minutes by taxi. Book an 18:30 concert, such as Queen vs. ABBA: out at 19:30, back by about 19:40, with time for a drink in the Parlour, which closes at half past ten.
From The Pilgrm, the nearest of our evenings is Body Worlds: The Anatomy of Happiness on Old Brompton Road in South Kensington, 8 minutes by taxi. It is the anatomy exhibition of real human bodies preserved by plastination, at your own pace for about an hour, rated 4.7 from about 1,000 reviews and on until 21 March 2027. Adult tickets start at £19.80 with fees and youth tickets, ages 4 to 17, at £13.91. On 30 October 2026 the last entry slot was 19:00, so it is an early evening: out at about 20:00, back at the hotel by about 20:10. For a later night from The Pilgrm, Soho Comedy Factory is 11 minutes by taxi and Central Hall 12.

- Zone C at Central HallZone C is the middle of the balcony and looks straight down on the quartet and the candles. The doors at Central Hall close 15 minutes before the concert, so leave the hotel early.
- Bring headphones to Body WorldsThe free audio guide plays on your own phone from QR codes, and there is no food or drink for sale. No refunds are given, but you can change the date up to 48 hours before.
Getting back late
Does the London Underground run all night?
On Friday and Saturday nights, yes, on six lines. "Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Windrush lines," Transport for London says, and Night Tube fares are off-peak. On other nights the Tube closes, and the night buses take over.
For our hotels, the Night Tube map dated September 2026 is good news. The Central line serves Bank for The Ned, Bethnal Green for Town Hall Hotel, Bond Street for Claridge's, Marble Arch for The Zetter Marylebone and Lancaster Gate, about 600 metres from The Pilgrm. The Jubilee line serves London Bridge for Shangri-La The Shard, London and Southwark and Waterloo for Sea Containers London; King's Cross St Pancras has the Piccadilly and Victoria lines for The Standard, London (the Northern line's night service runs on its Charing Cross branch, not through King's Cross); Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square are on it for Hazlitt's; and the Victoria line stops at Pimlico, 13 minutes from Artist Residence London. Paddington itself is not on the Night Tube.
On the other nights, night buses, most with an N before the number, are the way home. TfL publishes a "Night buses from" map for each hub, from Victoria to London Bridge, and every bus is the same fare: £1.75 pay as you go with contactless or Oyster, rising to £1.85 on 1 November 2026, with unlimited bus journeys within one hour of touching in on the Hopper fare and a daily bus cap of £5.25, £5.55 from 1 November. Since 24 October 2026 the N7, N113 and N137 end at Marble Arch rather than running on along Oxford Street, TfL's bus changes page says, so check the journey planner from Claridge's or The Zetter Marylebone.
The simplest way to get back late is to choose the evening that is a walk from your hotel. Six of our ten are, and the latest finish in this guide, Moonshine Saloon at 21:30 on a Friday or Saturday, is 13 minutes on foot from The Ned.

Two evenings, two hotels
Should I split my London stay between two hotels?
If you have two nights to spend, book the hotel to the evening rather than the other way round. East London and Westminster are a long way apart after dark, and one move in the morning puts each evening on your doorstep.
One pair that works on the dates on sale: on Thursday 5 November 2026, stay at Town Hall Hotel, start at Silk Weaver from 17:00 and walk 19 minutes, or take a 4-minute taxi, to the 20:30 Murdér Express, back by about 22:25. On Friday 6 November, move to Artist Residence London and take a 6-minute taxi to Candlelight: Tribute to Fleetwood Mac at Central Hall Westminster at 21:00, the best-rated Candlelight show in London on our list, from £21 with fees. You are back by about 22:10, with the hotel's cocktail bar open until midnight, and on a Friday the Victoria line runs all night from Pimlico if you go on somewhere.
For a weekend by the river, split it between Shangri-La The Shard, London, for a Saturday Candlelight concert at Southwark Cathedral 5 minutes away, and Hazlitt's or Claridge's for Soho Comedy Factory on the other night.

- Book the evening first, then the roomCandlelight plays only on set dates, and Moonshine Saloon and The Murdér Express had sessions on sale only to 31 December 2026 and 24 January 2027. Pick the date from the table, then book the hotel nearest it.

The catch
Late means locked out
Candlelight lets no one in once the doors close, 15 minutes before the start at Central Hall; Moonshine Saloon stops admission 15 minutes after the start, and at Soho Comedy Factory latecomers may lose their seat, Fever says. Our taxi times are without traffic.
What to do. Leave the hotel at least 30 minutes before the start, or take the Tube in the evening rush.
Most tickets are final
The Murdér Express and Body Worlds give no refunds; Candlelight and Moonshine Saloon allow date changes up to 48 hours before, and Candlelight refunds only on its Flexible Cancellation ticket, less a 10% fee.
What to do. Book once your dates are settled; for Candlelight, take the flexible ticket at checkout if plans may move.
The cheapest seats go first
On 30 October 2026 the cheapest restricted-view seats had already sold out for some dates, among them Fleetwood Mac at Southwark on 28 November and Hans Zimmer at Central Hall on 5 December.
What to do. Book the date you want early, or look at Zone D at Central Hall, the sides of the balcony, from £24.15.
