The King Premier Ocean Front Room. It is 50 sq ft smaller than the entry room, but it is the first category that faces the Pacific head on, and on a December Tuesday it costs $150 a night more. The entry room looks at the pier and its car park, and the two suites are bigger but cost $770 and $970 more.

Why this one

The entry room is the larger one, about 400 sq ft (37 m²) against about 350 sq ft (33 m²), and its balcony looks west across the pier car park to Malibu Pier and Surfrider Beach, with the ocean to the left and the highway to the right. The King Premier Ocean Front Room faces straight out to the Pacific from a balcony of its own, with a king bed, a sofa bed and a fireplace. It is a sunrise room: in winter the sun comes up across the bay. On a Tuesday in December 2026 it was $905 against $755, a step of $150 a night, or 20 per cent, for the sea.

The two suites are mostly a matter of space, at $770 and $970 more than the pick. Every room already has a king bed and a queen sofa bed, and none has a bath, so the extra money buys room to move, not another bed or a different bathroom.

Ask for
A room on the third floor, the top of the building's three, to put more air between you and Pacific Coast Highway. The floor is a request the hotel does not guarantee. Families can ask for connecting rooms, which only the King Premier Ocean Front category offers; each room takes three adults or two adults and two children, cribs are free and there are no rollaway beds.
Avoid
The King Pier View Room if you want the sea straight ahead, since it looks west across the pier car park with the highway in view; and lower-floor rooms near the street entrance, the closest to the road.

Suites against rooms

The One Bedroom Ocean Front Suite is about 525 sq ft (49 m²), with a pocket door between the bedroom and the living room and a private balcony over Carbon Beach. The One Bedroom Sleep Suite is about 600 sq ft (56 m²), with floor-to-ceiling windows and a fireplace in the living room. The Sleep Suite lists a fireplace and the Ocean Front Suite does not, so ask if you want one.

Our verdict

Book Malibu Beach Inn for the balcony over the Pacific, the fireplace and the 34 steps down to the sand, and accept that the highway is behind you. Pay the step up to a King Premier Ocean Front Room, ask for the third floor and treat the rest of Los Angeles as a day out by car.
