Where to eat at and around The Beverly Hills Hotel

The hotel has three restaurants of its own: the Polo Lounge for breakfast, lunch, Sunday brunch and dinner, the Fountain Coffee Room counter for all-day diner food, and the Cabana Cafe by the pool. Outside the gates there is nothing to eat within a ten-minute walk, since the nearest cafés and restaurants are more than 20 minutes away on foot, so the places below are all a drive and you will want a car or a taxi. The drive times are with the roads clear; allow longer at rush hour. The hotel's free house car reaches the closer ones.

The Polo Lounge

American cooking with an Italian edge, in a candy-striped dining room and on a palm-shaded patio, open since 1941Smart

This is the room the hotel is chosen for, and it turned 85 in 2026. The ceiling is candy-striped, the patio sits under palms, a piano plays at lunch and dinner and the Sunday brunch on the patio has light jazz. The McCarthy salad is the dish it is known for, with nearly 600 sold a week, and the menu leans American with an Italian edge and a specials board. It serves breakfast from 7am to 11am, lunch from 11am to 3pm, brunch on Sundays from 11am to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 11pm. The hotel asks you to dress for it: no casual hats, ripped denim, crop tops or swimwear at any hour, and after 4pm no flip-flops or sportswear, and no shorts for men. Book ahead for dinner and Sunday, and ask for the patio in daylight.

The Fountain Coffee Room

Counter-service diner with a curved bar, open since 1949Casual

A 1950s-style counter diner that has fed the hotel's guests since 1949, with a curved bar where you take a stool and watch the service at work. Breakfast is the draw: silver dollar pancakes, freshly squeezed juice and smoothies. The all-day menu runs to burgers, sandwiches, salads, milkshakes and the hotel's Beverly Hills cakes, and cakes and cookies can be ordered to take home. It opens daily from 7am to 4pm, dress is casual, and the counter is the seat to ask for.

Our verdict

Book The Beverly Hills Hotel for the Polo Lounge, the pool and a building that has set the tone for Beverly Hills since 1912 and been pink since 1948, and choose a garden Bungalow Room over a bigger room in the main house. Budget for tax and $70 parking, and expect to drive to the beach and to Hollywood.
