Palma airport transfers

Every flight into Mallorca lands at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), on the edge of Palma, and from there our ten hotels are anything from 12 minutes to 71 minutes away. This page sets out every realistic way to each of them: the city bus, the island buses and the old Sóller train, the official taxi meter, a private transfer and a hire car, with the typical drive to each door.

The short answer

For our two old-town hotels in Palma, take a taxi from the rank (12 to 18 minutes, about €17 to €21 by day) or EMT's A1 bus for €5, which runs from 05:30 until about 03:10 and stops three minutes' walk from Es Princep. For the Tramuntana, the far corners and late landings, a private transfer booked ahead is the simple answer: Sóller is 34 minutes away, Deià 45, Formentor and Canyamel 71. For Castell Son Claret, Cap Vermell and Can Ferrereta, collect a hire car at the airport.

  • PMIPalma de Mallorca (PMI). The island's only airport, 8 km from Palma: Es Princep is about 12 minutes away, L'Avenida in Sóller 34, and Four Seasons Formentor and Cap Vermell 71.

Every way in, timed and priced

EMT A1 bus to central Palma

PMI
Time
About 25 minutes to Passeig de Mallorca; every 12 to 15 minutes for most of the day, 05:30 to about 03:10
Price
€5 single in cash; contactless cards accepted

The best bus on the island for our guests: it stops at Porta des Camp, three minutes' walk from Es Princep and about 500 metres from Can Cera, and at Plaça d'Espanya for the Sóller train and TIB's buses.

A1, then TIB 204 to Sóller or 203 to Deià

PMI
Time
A1 to Plaça d'Espanya, then 30 minutes on the 204 to Sóller centre, about every half hour; the 203 reaches Deià in about 50 minutes
Price
€5 for the A1, then €2.70 by card or €4.50 in cash on the 203 or 204

Cheap and frequent to Sóller, and the 203 stops a minute's walk from Belmond La Residencia. With luggage and a change at the Estació Intermodal, it suits light travellers on a daytime flight.

Sóller train from Palma

PMI
Time
One hour from Palma to Sóller; seven departures a day, 10:10 to 19:40
Price
€23 single, €30 return

The wooden train through the mountains, five minutes' walk from L'Avenida at the Sóller end. A day out in itself rather than a transfer: take the A1 to Plaça d'Espanya and walk to the station.

TIB airport buses to the resorts

PMI
Time
A11 to Peguera all year; A32 to Alcúdia, A42 to Cala Millor and A51 to Campos until 31 October 2026
Price
Contactless card or cash on board; TIB sets the fare by zone

None stops near our hotels: the A11 ends about 15 minutes by car from Castell Son Claret, and the A42 and A51 stop well short of Canyamel and Santanyí.

Metered taxi

PMI
Time
12 to 18 minutes to Palma's old town; 34 to 71 minutes to the rest of our hotels
Price
€2.50 flag fall and €1.20 a km on weekdays 07:00 to 21:00; €2.85 and €1.35 at night, weekends and holidays; €4.65 airport supplement; €16.95 minimum from the airport

Always at the rank outside arrivals and fair value for Palma: about €17 to Es Princep by day. For the longer runs the meter adds up, and a fixed price booked ahead is the calmer choice.

Private transfer booked ahead

PMI
Time
The drive itself: 34 to 49 minutes to the Tramuntana and the west, 71 to Formentor and Canyamel
Price
Fixed when you book; the widget shows the live price

The driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with a name sign, so a late landing costs nothing. Our pick for Formentor, Deià, Sóller, Fornalutx and Estellencs, and for families with luggage.

Hire car

PMI
Time
Desks on Floor 0 of the terminal or a shuttle to a depot; then the same drive as a taxi
Price
From €157 a week manual, €178 automatic, for a June 2027 week (Expedia, read 10 October 2026)

Essential at Castell Son Claret, Cap Vermell and Can Ferrereta, and useful at most of the rest. Our car hire page has the deposits, the rules and the parking at each hotel.

From the airport to our ten hotels

Taxi fares from the airport, hotel by hotel

Mallorca's taxis run on one island tariff, the official 2025 rates published by Palma's council: €2.50 flag fall and €1.20 a km on weekdays from 07:00 to 21:00, and €2.85 and €1.35 at night, at weekends and on holidays. Every trip from the airport adds a €4.65 supplement, and the minimum fare from the airport is €16.95, covering the first 7 km. Luggage, pushchairs and paying by card cost nothing extra; five or six passengers add €3. Trips to Estellencs add a €4.26 mountain supplement.

The figures below are our estimates from that tariff and the routed distance, by day and at night.

Es Princep, 8.5 km
about €17 by day, €19 at night
Can Cera, 11.4 km
about €21 by day, €23 at night
L'Avenida, Sóller, 31 km
about €44 by day, €49 at night
Fornalutx Petit Hotel, 35 km
about €49 by day, €55 at night
Castell Son Claret, 36 km
about €50 by day, €56 at night
Belmond La Residencia, 36 km
about €50 by day, €56 at night
Maristel, 41 km
about €61 by day, €67 at night, with the mountain supplement
Can Ferrereta, 46 km
about €63 by day, €70 at night
Four Seasons Formentor, 74 km
about €96 by day, €108 at night
Cap Vermell, 77 km
about €99 by day, €111 at night

The A1 and the island buses

Yes. EMT's A1 leaves the arrivals stop on Floor 0 every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 12 at weekends for most of the day, from 05:30 until about 03:10. It carries only airport passengers and calls at the Palau de Congressos, Porta des Camp, Plaça d'Espanya and Passeig de Mallorca, about 25 minutes out. The fare is €5.

For the Tramuntana, change at Plaça d'Espanya, where TIB's buses leave from the Estació Intermodal: the 204 to Sóller about every half hour, the 203 to Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller, and the 202 to Esporles, Banyalbufar and Estellencs. A contactless bank card works on all of them, tapping in and out.

EMT A1, airport to Palma
05:30 to about 03:10; €5; about 25 min
TIB 204, Palma to Sóller
about every 30 min; 30 min to Sóller centre; €2.70 by card
TIB 203, Palma to Deià
about 50 min; €2.70 by card, €4.50 cash
TIB 202, Palma to Estellencs
about 65 min; €3.60 by card, €6.00 cash
Sóller train
7 a day, 10:10 to 19:40; one hour; €23 single

Landing late, or with children and luggage

For Palma, a late landing is easy: the taxi rank is always staffed and the A1 runs until about 03:10. Outside Palma, the island buses thin out in the evening and each needs a change in the city, so after dark a driver booked ahead is the answer: they follow your flight and wait in arrivals with your name, however late you land. A taxi on the meter to Formentor or Canyamel costs about €108 at night.

Going back to the airport

Typically, the airport is 12 to 18 minutes from our Palma hotels, 34 to 49 from Sóller, Fornalutx, Deià, Estellencs and Castell Son Claret, 42 from Can Ferrereta and 71 from Formentor and Canyamel. The A1 back runs from Passeig de Mallorca and Plaça d'Espanya from about 04:15. Any hotel will call a taxi, and a private transfer can be booked for the return at the same time as the arrival.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Mallorca

How do I get from Palma airport to the old town?

Take a taxi from the rank, 12 to 18 minutes and about €17 to €21 by day, or EMT's A1 bus for €5, which stops at Porta des Camp at the edge of the old town. The A1 runs from 05:30 until about 03:10.

How much is a taxi from Palma airport to Sóller?

About €44 by day and €49 at night on the island meter for the 31 km to L'Avenida, including the €4.65 airport supplement. The drive takes about 34 minutes through the Sóller tunnel.

Is there a bus from Palma airport to Sóller?

Not directly. Take the A1 to Plaça d'Espanya (€5), then TIB's 204 from the Estació Intermodal, about every half hour and 30 minutes to the centre, for €2.70 by card or €4.50 in cash.

How long is the drive from Palma airport to Formentor?

About 71 minutes, 74 km, mostly on the Ma-13 motorway. A taxi on the meter comes to about €96 by day, so a fixed-price transfer booked ahead is often better value.

Can I take the Sóller train from Palma airport?

Not from the airport itself: take the A1 to Plaça d'Espanya and walk to the station. The train takes an hour to Sóller and costs €23 single, with seven departures a day from 10:10.

Do I need a car in Mallorca?

For Castell Son Claret, Cap Vermell and Can Ferrereta, yes. For Palma's old town and Sóller, no. A week from the airport started at €157 for a June 2027 manual on Expedia on 10 October 2026.
