The take on Cap Vermell Grand Hotel

Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is a resort built to look like a Mallorcan hill village: low buildings, lanes and a central square, the Plaza de la Torre, on the slope of the Canyamel valley on the island's far east coast. It opened in June 2016 as Park Hyatt Mallorca, the brand's first resort in Europe, on the Cap Vermell estate, which also takes in villas and a country club, with a golf course next door. Hyatt left in 2020, the owners reopened it under the estate's name in 2021, and in September 2026 the MICHELIN Guide raised it from one Key to two.

There are 142 rooms and every one has a terrace. The ladder starts with junior suites of 53 m², the same size in all three versions: Garden at ground level, opening onto the planting, Resort View over the village lanes, and Valley View facing across the valley. Bathrooms are Carrara marble with a separate bath and shower. Above them come Grand Suites of about 100 m² with a sitting room, Presidential Suites of 150 m² with a jacuzzi on the terrace and a view of the sea or the hills, and villas on the estate. A junior suite sleeps two adults and one child at most, so a family of four needs connecting rooms or a suite.

Voro is the reason it is here. Álvaro Salazar's restaurant, in its own building on the square, is the only one in the Balearic Islands with two MICHELIN stars in the 2026 guide, cooking a single menu, Devoro, of around 28 courses built on Mediterranean produce and the chef's Andalusian roots. It costs 290 euros a head before wine, seats from 7pm to 8.30pm five nights a week and admits no one under 16. The rest of the eating is simpler: Bravo for tapas and Mallorcan wines facing the valley at sunset, Villa Sofia for Mediterranean dinners by the pool with live music, and ROKA, an open-air robata pop-up. Serenitas Spa has a rose quartz sauna, and the kids' club takes 4 to 11-year-olds free of charge.

The trade is distance. This is the far east of the island, 71 minutes' drive from Palma airport, and the hotel sits on the hillside rather than the shore: Canyamel beach is 25 minutes' walk down and a climb back. It closes from November to late March. Book it when dinner is the point of the trip: a couple with a hire car, a golf week, or a family with young children who will be at the kids' club while you are at the spa. If you want to walk to the sand or to a town for dinner, choose somewhere else.

Cap Vermell Grand Hotel: the room to book, Junior Suite Valley View

All three junior suites are the same 53 m² with the same marble bathroom and furnished terrace, so the category buys the outlook. The Garden rooms are at ground level facing planting and the Resort View rooms look over the village lanes, while the Valley View rooms have the terrace facing across the Canyamel valley, for a small step up in price.

Ask for
The category settles the outlook, so ask for a king or two singles when you book. A junior suite sleeps two adults and one child at most.

Junior Suite Garden if the view matters: its terrace opens onto the garden at ground level. Families of four should skip the junior suites and book the Family Room (two connecting rooms) or a Grand Suite.

Where Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is, and getting there

The hotel stands on the Atalaya de Canyamel hillside above the Canyamel valley, in the municipality of Capdepera on Mallorca's north-east coast. Canyamel beach, the sandy bay at the mouth of the valley, is 1.8 km away: 25 minutes on foot down the hill, with about 60 metres to climb on the way back, or four minutes by car. The estate's Country Club is an eight-minute walk, the Canyamel golf course is next door, and the Coves d'Artà are four minutes by car. Cala Rajada is 12 minutes away and the old town of Artà 13.

Palma airport is 71 minutes by car and Palma Cathedral 78, so this is a hotel for a hire car or a booked transfer. Parking at the hotel is free, and a car is what turns the east coast's coves and villages into day trips.
