Which room to book at La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel

The Deluxe Junior Suite. It is the first rung on the ladder where a terrace is promised rather than possible: every one, in the hillside Tramuntana building above the spa, has its own large tiled terrace with a table and chairs facing Deià and the mountains, a four-poster king and a bathroom with a bath and a separate rain shower. Below it, outdoor space and a separate shower depend on the room you are given; above it, you are paying for more space, a separate bedroom or a pool of your own.

Why this one

Below the pick, the rooms are spread across Son Moragues, Son Canals and Son Fony, and no two are quite alike, which is the charm and the problem. The Classic Double is 21 to 29 m² and the Superior Double 30 to 36, both with a shower over the bath. The Deluxe Double, the Junior Suite and the Superior Junior Suite are bigger, with sitting areas and four-posters, and some or many of them have a balcony, a small garden or a terrace, but the category never promises one, and only some have a separate shower. For a stay from Tuesday 11 May 2027, the four with a rate ran from 1,805 euros a night for the Superior Double to 2,151 for the Superior Junior Suite, with breakfast.

The Deluxe Junior Suite was 2,655, about 500 euros a night more than the Superior Junior Suite, and the difference is everything the hotel is booked for. All of them are in the Tramuntana building, added in 2009 on the hillside above the spa, 50 to 55 m² with a living area, a sofa and a dining table for three, and every one has a large tiled terrace with a table and chairs facing the village and the Tramuntana. The bathroom has an oversize bath and a separate walk-in rain shower. Above it, the Executive Junior Suite in the same building adds a plunge pool for 264 euros more, and from the Deluxe Suite up you are paying for a separate bedroom, a bigger terrace or a pool of your own rather than a better view.

Ask for
If stairs are a concern, ask at booking how the suite is reached from reception: the Deluxe Junior Suites are in the hillside Tramuntana building, and getting to the top of the grounds can take more than one lift. The suite sleeps two adults and a child; if you need two rooms, a Deluxe Junior Suite can connect to an Exclusive Suite, so ask for the pair.
Avoid
The Classic Double, at 21 to 29 m², if you want space or somewhere to sit outside, and the Tower Suite if stairs are a problem: it runs over three floors up a narrow stone staircase. Skip the Superior Junior Suite in favour of the Junior Suite, which cost less on the same dates and starts larger. If you book a Deluxe Suite for the view, ask which way it faces, because some look over the pool area rather than the village.

Suites against rooms

Two suites above the pick are worth singling out. The Executive Junior Suite is the pick with a plunge pool: the same Tramuntana building, 55 to 56 m², a furnished garden terrace with its own small pool, at 2,919 euros against the pick's 2,655 on 11 May 2027. If you want to swim without crossing the grounds, that is the cheapest way to do it.

The other is the Sheridan Suite, 119 m² in Son Fony with a large terrace, a private pool of 4 by 7 metres and a garden, named after George Sheridan, who started the hotel's art collection, at 8,079 euros. Like the Miró and Matthew Williamson suites and Villa Robert Graves, it comes with round-trip transfers and a host, and it is a different holiday from anything below it.

Our verdict

The Tramuntana classic, booked for the art, the olive groves and a terrace facing Deià, if you can live with the stairs. Check availability for a Deluxe Junior Suite.
