Why this one

Castell Son Claret sells eleven categories across 43 rooms, 22 in the castle and 21 in the former stables and newer houses in the gardens. The bottom two are the same 25 m² facing the courtyard: the Estate Courtyard for one guest and the Estate Double for two, of which there are only two. The Deluxe Double is the first step out of that courtyard, and the one that matters. It is 37 m² under wooden beams on the ground, first or second floor of the castle, with windows onto the gardens or the hillside behind, depending on the room, and there are ten of them, some connecting and one adapted for reduced mobility. For Tuesday 11 May 2027 it was 723 euros a night against the Estate Double's 655: twelve square metres and windows that look outwards for 68 euros.

Above the Deluxe Double, the ladder stops buying floor area and starts buying outdoor space. The Terrace Deluxe is the same 37 m² with French windows onto a private terrace, at 831. The Demi Suite adds a sitting room at 50 m², the Terrace Demi Suite a terrace of about 90 m² at the same size, and the Garden Suites a living room and the Tramuntana at 65 m², from 1,152. The two Tower Suites, 70 m² inside the castle's towers with a 35 m² balcony, were 1,354, and the five Pool Suites, with a garden and an unheated 10 m² pool, 1,599. They are fine rooms, but none of them is a better castle room for the money than the Deluxe Double.

Ask for
Ask in writing for a garden or Tramuntana outlook, and wait for the confirmation: views vary room by room, between the courtyard, the gardens, the estate and the mountains, and a request is only guaranteed once the hotel confirms it. If quiet matters, ask for a particularly quiet room; this is a living estate, so natural sounds and hotel activity can carry. If steps are a problem, ask for the one Deluxe Double adapted for reduced mobility. If you want two beds, ask before you book: the beds in rooms 900 and 1000 separate, and any other arrangement needs confirming.
Avoid
The Estate Double if you want a view out over the estate, and the Estate Courtyard unless you are travelling alone, because it sleeps one. Skip the Water Tower Duplex if stairs are hard: its bedroom and small bathroom are up a narrow winding staircase. Skip the Pool Suites for a stay in March or April, because their 10 m² pools are not heated. Extra beds start at the Demi Suite, at 100 euros a night for a child of 3 to 12 and 150 from 13, so a family with a child over three cannot share a Deluxe Double.

Suites against rooms

Two suites are worth singling out. The Tower Suites are the most castle of the rooms: 70 m² on the first floor inside the castle's original towers, with floor-to-ceiling windows over the gardens and the Tramuntana, a living room with a table for four, a bath, a shower, two basins and a balcony of 35 m². There are two of them, at 1,354 euros a night for Tuesday 11 May 2027.

The other is the Castell Suite, the largest room at 105 m², on the ground floor of a separate building beside the castle: a living room with a large window, a bedroom with bath and shower, two terraces, and a second room set up as a teenager's bedroom, a playroom or an office. It takes extra beds, which makes it the family suite, at 1,313 euros on the same date.

Our verdict

Castell Son Claret earns its place as a Mallorcan manor with a castle front and a starred dinner in its own courtyard on fine evenings, a short drive from the south-west coast. Pay for a Deluxe Double, hire a car and give it three nights.
