Where to eat at and around Castell Son Claret

The hotel's own tables come first. Sa Clastra, in the castle courtyard when the weather allows and indoors when it does not, holds one MICHELIN star for Jordi Cantó's Wind and Memory tasting menu, 205 euros a head in 2026: dinner only, from March to the end of October, three to five nights a week and never on a Sunday or Monday, for over-14s. Olivera, the Mediterranean restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch from 13:00 to 15:30 and dinner from 19:00 to 21:30 every day, with a children's menu, and the Castell Bar, in the old chapel, and a seasonal Pool Bar fill the gaps. Beyond the estate there is little to walk to: Es Capdellà, the nearest village, is 29 minutes on foot. You will want a car or a taxi, and the seven places below are 5 to 20 minutes away by car.

The reason to book the castle rather than just look at it. The restaurant is named for the courtyard and serves in it when the weather allows, with an indoor dining room as well, and it has held a star since the 2024 guide. Jordi Cantó, a Mallorcan who has cooked here since the hotel opened in 2013, offers one tasting menu, Wind and Memory, in a short or long version, each chapter tied to one of the winds that shaped the island; the 2026 menu was 205 euros a head, drinks extra. Allow two and a half to three hours. Dinner only, from March to the end of October, on three to five nights a week depending on the month (Tuesday to Saturday only in June, July and August), and over-14s only. Tables are few, so book when you book the room.

Village café for breakfast and pa amb oli · €€

The village café at number 2 Carrer Major in Calvià, along the street from Ca'n Torrat, and the stop for a breakfast that is not the hotel's: coffee, toast and croissants from 8:00. Later it turns to the island's bar food, pa amb oli and llonguets, the Mallorcan bread roll, filled with sobrasada, goat's cheese and honey, cold cuts or marinated fish. There is a terrace on the street and a pub feel inside, and it rarely costs more than 20 euros a head. Open 8:00 to 23:00, closed on Wednesday.

The kitchen also cooks the Mallorcan dishes the coast has dropped: frit mallorquí, pilotes, the island's meatballs, and lomo amb col, pork loin braised in cabbage leaves. Bread arrives with aioli and olives. Dinner only, 19:30 to 23:30, closed on Tuesday. Book, especially at weekends, and ask for the small terrace on the street.

    Parish bar on a hill-village square · €

The parish bar on the church square of Galilea, the hill village at the top of the road the hotel stands on, with a terrace and a view. It is a bar, not a restaurant: a beer, a pintxo of tortilla, croquetes or a sandwich, for well under 20 euros a head, after a walk or on the way back from the mountains. Open 10:00 to 16:00 and 18:30 to 23:00, Tuesday daytime only, closed on Monday. The road up is narrow, winding and shared with cyclists.

Sit on the small terrace with a cortado on the way to the beach, or order a whole ensaïmada at least a day ahead to take home. Open 8:30 to 14:00, to 13:30 on Sunday, closed on Monday.

Our verdict

Castell Son Claret earns its place as a Mallorcan manor with a castle front and a starred dinner in its own courtyard on fine evenings, a short drive from the south-west coast. Pay for a Deluxe Double, hire a car and give it three nights.
