Which room to book at L'Avenida Hotel

The Luxury Suite. At 45 square metres it is nearly twice the size of any double in the house, it sits on the street front where the house keeps its high original ceilings, and it is the only category with a freestanding roll-top bath and double showers, beside a four-poster king. Below it, the doubles run from 20 to 25 square metres; there is nothing above it.

Why this one

The doubles are all between 20 and 25 square metres, and what separates them is what they look at and how you reach them. The Double Room Standard is up on the second floor under the beams; the Duplex puts its bed up a staircase; the Garden pair sit at ground level by the pool; the Superiors keep the original mouldings and face the mountains; the Balcony rooms look over the garden. Every one of them has a shower rather than a bath. The Luxury Suite is a different room: 45 square metres on the street front, under the house's high original ceilings, with a four-poster king, armchairs set round the room, a desk, a freestanding roll-top bath, double basins and double showers, and space for a third guest. For Tuesday 11 May 2027 it was 456 euros a night against 366 for a Superior and 321 for the Duplex: 90 euros more than the best of the doubles for nearly twice the floor and the only baths in the house.

The Junior Suite is the step in between. At 30 square metres it has an open-plan sitting area, a canopy double and the sunset over the western ridge, but a walk-in shower, and in the May weeks when it is on sale it runs about 40 euros a night below the Luxury Suite. For 15 more square metres, the high street-front ceilings and the bath, that is the 40 euros worth spending.

Ask for
Ask for the Luxury Suite on the second floor, the one the hotel sells with the view of Puig Major across Gran Via; the young street trees in front of the house screen more of the view from the first floor than from the second, especially in summer. Say when you book that the view is the reason for the stay.
Avoid
The Double Room Duplex if you would rather not climb stairs at night, since the bed is on the upper level and the bathroom below. The Double Room Garden if you came for the mountains: it is 20 m² on the ground floor facing the garden. And the Junior Suite if the bath is the point, because it has a walk-in shower and the roll-top tub belongs to the Luxury Suites alone.

Suites against rooms

There are two Luxury Suites, one on the first floor and one on the second, both 45 m² on the street front and both sleeping up to three. The second-floor suite is the one with Puig Major in the window, and the one to ask for. The Junior Suites, at 30 m², face the other way, west over the garden and pool to the ridge behind the town; they suit a couple who want more room than a double and a sunset rather than the mountain, and do not mind a shower.

Our verdict

L'Avenida earns its place by putting you inside Sóller: a small, adults-only house with a pool, people who know where to book dinner, and the tram and the mountains within walking distance. Pay for a Luxury Suite, come between March and October, and pack for the stairs.
