Can Ferrereta, a 1774 manor in Santanyí with Lissoni and Wegner furniture, a Miró and a Plensa head beside its 25-metre pool. Can Cera, an 18th-century Palma noble house with Prouvé and Carl Hansen furniture and esparto tapestries against the old stone. L'Avenida Hotel, a 1912 Sóller townhouse with restored plaster ceilings and a rebuilt marble staircase.
3 of our ten · Hand-pickedHotels cannot pay to be hereLast checked: October 2026
None of these three is a new building making a statement. Each is an old house, restored and filled with good furniture and art: a manor of 1774 in Santanyí, an 18th-century noble house in Palma's old town and a townhouse of 1912 in Sóller. The arches, beams, tiles and staircases are the frame, and the design is what has been set against them, from Prouvé and Wegner furniture to handmade pieces such as Palma's La Roqueta tiles, esparto tapestries and Jaume Roig's ceramics.
Choose by setting and season. Can Ferrereta is the fullest statement, with an art collection and a 25-metre garden pool, but it needs a car for the coves and opens from early March to late November. Can Cera is the city house, open all year, with a spa but no pool. L'Avenida Hotel is the smallest and the least expensive of the three, a base for the Tramuntana from March to October.
The house was built in 1774, and two years of restoration with the Palma architects Bastidas took it back to its main walls: the original stone arches stayed, the old beams went back in and the walls were finished in lime, over the same sandy stone that built the rest of Santanyí. Against that sit pieces by Piero Lissoni, Hans J. Wegner, Michael Anastassiades and GamFratesi, and the Soldevila Ferrer family's collection of contemporary Spanish art: Guillem Nadal, Jordi Alcaraz, Bárbara Vidal, and a Joan Miró in the Can Ferrereta Suites.
In the garden, Jaume Plensa's two-metre bronze head stands in the olive trees beside the 25-metre pool, its dark green tiles chosen to recall a country reservoir. Ocre fills the former wine cellar, its old graffiti still visible on one stone arch, and the MICHELIN Guide awards the hotel two Keys.

Can Ferrereta Suite
65 m²€1,316 a night
One of two 65 m² suites in the old house, with French balconies, a freestanding bath and chosen artworks, a Miró among them: the manor at its fullest.
An 18th-century noble house, remodelled at the end of the 19th: two low stone arches lead in from the lane to a small cobbled courtyard of palms, and at the back a marble staircase with an iron balustrade rises to the salons. The redesign during the pandemic closures, finished for the 2021 reopening, set Carl Hansen and Jean Prouvé furniture and Davide Groppi lamps against the old stone, with ceramics by Jaume Roig and esparto tapestries by Adriana Meunié.
The shared rooms are generous for a house of 14 rooms: a work room built around a long oak table, a red salon with a bar of black marble, and a library. The Deluxe rooms keep the original stone floors and beams, and the Signature Junior Suite has its own gallery over the courtyard. The MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys, and it is open all year.

Suite Can Cera
60 m²€903 a night
The house's old ballroom, the hotel says: a four-poster bed, carved woodwork and hand-painted La Roqueta tiles, a bath, and the only private terrace in the house.
A townhouse of 1912 on Gran Via in Sóller, brought back from ruin by local craftsmen who restored its plaster ceilings and rebuilt its marble staircase. The new layer sets modern materials against the old house: leather headboards, patterned wallpaper and wenge floors next to the original limestone arches and beams. Each of the 12 rooms is different. The Superior Doubles keep the original mouldings, the Junior Suites have canopy beds, and the two Luxury Suites on the street front have high ceilings, four-posters and roll-top baths.
Breakfast is served by the pool in the courtyard garden, the house holds One MICHELIN Key, and Treguer Collection, a Mallorcan family hotel group, has run it since 2018.

Double Room Superior
25 m²€366 a night
One of two doubles that keep the house's original mouldings and ceilings, with leather headboards, a king bed and the mountains in the window: the double for the building itself.
La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel is the one for art rather than modern design: 33 works by Joan Miró in the restaurant named after him, the Sa Tafona gallery, and art and sculpture studios with resident artists, in two old manor houses facing Deià.
Es Princep, in Palma, furnishes its rooms in stone, wood and leather after the island's old country houses, and at Zaranda a glass floor shows the old tannery pits found under the building.
From about €245 a night
Questions people ask
Good questions about Mallorca
Which Mallorca hotels are worth booking for their design?
Three of our ten. Can Ferrereta, in Santanyí, is a manor of 1774 restored by the Palma architects Bastidas, with furniture by Piero Lissoni and Hans J. Wegner and contemporary Spanish art. Can Cera, in Palma's old town, sets Jean Prouvé and Carl Hansen furniture and Davide Groppi lamps against an 18th-century courtyard house. L'Avenida Hotel, in Sóller, is a 1912 townhouse with restored plaster ceilings and a rebuilt marble staircase. All three are restorations of old houses rather than new buildings.
Which hotels in Mallorca have an art collection?
Can Ferrereta hangs the Soldevila Ferrer family's contemporary Spanish art, Guillem Nadal, Jordi Alcaraz and Bárbara Vidal among them, with a Joan Miró in the Can Ferrereta Suites and a two-metre bronze head by Jaume Plensa beside the pool. La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, in Deià, has 33 works by Miró in Restaurante Miró, the Sa Tafona gallery and studios with resident artists. Can Cera has ceramics by Jaume Roig and esparto tapestries by Adriana Meunié through the house.
Are Mallorca's design hotels open in winter?
One of the three is. Can Cera, in Palma's old town, is open all year, and November to February is its cheapest time, at about half the June rate; with its salons, library and spa, it is a house made for cooler days. Can Ferrereta opens from early March to late November, and L'Avenida Hotel from March to October. Of our ten, only Es Princep and Can Cera stay open all winter, and Fornalutx Petit Hotel sells winter nights too (check your dates).
Can you bring children to Mallorca's design hotels?
Teenagers, at two of them. Can Cera takes no guests under 14. Can Ferrereta takes adults and children over 14, and sells every room for two guests at most, so a couple with a teenager needs two rooms. L'Avenida Hotel describes itself as adults-only. For a family trip with younger children, the hotels on our families list, at Formentor, Canyamel and Deià, have kids' clubs.
Which Mallorca design hotels have a pool?
Can Ferrereta has the largest: a 25-metre garden pool among cypresses and olive trees, plus a 10-metre heated indoor pool in its spa. L'Avenida Hotel has a pool of 38 square metres in its courtyard garden, for cooling off between walks. Can Cera has no pool; its spa, with a Finnish sauna, a steam room and a hot tub, can be reserved for your sole use at no extra charge, and the roof terrace has loungers.
How did you choose these hotels?
Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
