Where to eat at and around Inara Camp

Inara Camp stands alone on the Agafay plateau, and everything within walking distance is the camp's own: Le Cercle, the residents' restaurant around the campfire, the bar at the Infinity Pool and six private tents for a lunch or dinner on your own. At lunch the restaurant on the upper ground also serves day visitors from Marrakech. Beyond the camp you will want a car or the camp's transfer: the one other table in reach is about 23 minutes away by car, and the Medina is about an hour.

Close by, on foot or by car

  • Le Cercle

    1 min walk

    Camp restaurant, Moroccan cooking

Where most of your dinners will be. Dinner is served in the Circle, the camp's shared living space, by a campfire and candlelight, and it is a fixed menu of Moroccan dishes, briouats and tagines among them, cooked with vegetables from a permaculture farm near the village, which you can visit. Vegetarians are looked after, and there is wine. For a dinner on your own, one of the camp's six private tents can be set for lunch or dinner at extra cost: ask in advance. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • Pool bar, cocktails and wine

The place for sunset. The bar beside the Infinity Pool looks straight out over the desert, and it mixes cocktails by hand as the sun goes down, with a list of wines and alcohol-free drinks as well. Take a lounger under the wooden pergolas in the afternoon and stay on for the light over the hills, then walk up to the Circle for dinner. The pool is heated, so on a winter afternoon a swim before the drink is not as brave as it sounds.

  • Desert camp, Moroccan set lunch and dinner · €€€

The one other table within a short drive, and a change of scene: Scarabeo's original camp, spread over a hillside with the Atlas in view and a livelier atmosphere in the evening. Outside guests can come for lunch or dinner by reservation, made at least 48 hours ahead. Lunch is Moroccan salads, chicken and vegetable skewers and kefta, then the dessert of the day; dinner is salads, two tagines, semolina with raisins and the chef's trio to finish, with vegetarian and gluten-free versions on request. Open all year, Ramadan included.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served at the camp, and it is a full one: bread and cakes baked that morning, fresh fruit, jams and eggs. The bed-and-breakfast and half-board rates include it, so check that yours does. There is no alternative within reach in the morning, since the nearest other camp serves outside guests only at lunch and dinner, so the camp's breakfast is the breakfast.

What to skip

Driving into the Medina for dinner and back. Jemaa el-Fna is about an hour each way, and the return is late at night after the meal. Go into the city by day, and keep the evenings for the campfire.
