Newark Airport pick-up points, terminal by terminal
Newark's three terminals each do pick-ups differently. Terminal A, the new one, has numbered kerbside zones across the road; Terminal B keeps everything on the arrivals frontage; Terminal C sends Uber and Lyft up to the third floor of its car park. Here is every place to be collected, exactly as the airport states it.
The 30-second version
Take a taxi only from the uniformed dispatcher, who gives you a receipt: Terminal A Level 1 by Door 5, Terminal B Level 2 by Door 8 or Level 1 by Door 2, Terminal C Level 1 by Door 6. Uber and Lyft collect you across the road at Terminal A (Uber zones 9–12, Lyft 13–14), in front of arrivals at Terminal B, and on Floor 3 of the Terminal C garage. A friend should wait free in the Cell Phone Lot until you call.

Terminal A
- Taxi
Arrivals, Level 1, near Door 5 (kerbside Zone 6)
Follow the taxi signs after baggage claim and join the line; the uniformed dispatcher assigns the cab and gives you a receipt. Show it to the driver, then take it back.
- Uber and ride apps
Arrivals level, directly across the street: Uber Zones 9–12, Lyft Zones 13–14
Collect your bags, follow the Ride App Pick Up signs across the road, then request the car and check the plate against the app.
- Pre-booked driver
The ground transportation pick-up area on the arrivals level
Follow the ground transportation signs; the information centre on Level 1, staffed in red uniforms, can help if your driver is not there.
- Friends collecting you
Passenger Pick-Up Zones 1–5, 7 and 8 at the kerb, or Short Term Parking A
Friends collect you at the numbered passenger pick-up zones once you are outside with your bags. To meet you inside, they park in Short Term Parking A: $5.25 for the first half hour.
- Coach
Zone 16, kerbside
The Newark Airport Express to Grand Central, Bryant Park and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, $23.50 one way. The Marriott hotel shuttle picks up at Zone 13 for now, while the AirTrain is replaced.
- Bus
Zone 17, kerbside
NJ Transit Go Bus and local buses towards Newark Penn Station and Elizabeth.
- Car hire
The Rental Car Center, Levels 1–3 of the Terminal A car park
Walk from Terminal A, no shuttle needed; follow the Rental Car Center signs.
- Train
Terminal A AirTrain station, about 15 minutes' covered walk or a 5-minute shuttle
Terminal A has no AirTrain stop of its own. Allow about 20 minutes in all to the airport railway station for NJ Transit and Amtrak.
Terminal B
- Taxi
Arrivals, Level 2 near Door 8, or Level 1 near Door 2
Follow the taxi signs after baggage claim to either rank; the dispatcher assigns the cab and hands you the receipt.
- Uber and ride apps
Arrivals level, on the terminal frontage
Follow the Ride App Pick Up signs out of arrivals and request the car once you are there.
- Coach
Baggage claim level, at the coach and shuttle stops
The Newark Airport Express to Midtown, about 50 minutes; Go Bus, Trans-Bridge and Marriott shuttle stops are on the same level.

P3 AirTrain station
The designated hotel shuttle area for every airport hotel, reached free on the AirTrain. Hotel shuttles are free.

Being picked up by a friend: where to wait and what it costs
In the free Cell Phone Lot, beside the P4 garage near the airport entrance, until you call. Kerbsides are for active loading only: a car cannot wait at the curb unless you and your bags are already there, and unattended cars are towed at the owner's expense.
To meet you inside, a friend parks in the short-term car park beside your terminal, $5.25 for each half hour at first. At Terminal A, the numbered Passenger Pick-Up zones are where private cars collect you.
- Cell Phone Lot
- Free, under 5 minutes from all terminals
- Short-term parking
- $5.25 for the first half hour
- P4 Daily Parking
- $4.25 for the first half hour
The Newark taxi rules
Newark taxis are licensed in New Jersey and charge set fares by Manhattan zone: $60 to downtown below West 13th Street, $65 to West 14th–50th, $70 to West 51st–96th, plus $5 for the East Side, a $2 airport access fee, tolls and tip. A $10 surcharge applies to New York trips on weekdays 6–10am and 3–8pm and weekends noon to 9pm. Cars take four, minivans five. Take a cab only from the dispatcher and keep the receipt: charging more than the approved fare is illegal, and the receipt is your proof.
Meeting a pre-booked driver
A booked driver meets you at the ground transportation pick-up area of your terminal. Give your flight number so they follow any delay, and ignore anyone without an official uniform offering a car or help with bags: they may be unlicensed. The airport's authorised van and shuttle operators are listed on its website, and the information centre in arrivals can book one for you.
Late at night
The taxi ranks and the dispatcher are the simplest answer after a late landing. If you take the train, the AirTrain runs every 15 minutes between 11pm and 5am, with a shuttle bus linking Terminal A to it. The airport is replacing the AirTrain, and replacement buses sometimes run, stopping at the railway station, each terminal and P4: check the AirTrain page before a tight connection.
Accessible pick-up
Uber and Lyft offer wheelchair-accessible cars, collected in front of the terminal; if you need a closer pick-up point for accessibility reasons, contact Uber or Lyft directly. Arrange help from the gate to the car with your airline before you fly. All AirTrain trains and stations are step-free, with two wheelchair spaces on every train.
