Date night in New York: seven evenings, priced for two
Every listing gives a price for one. We priced seven New York evenings for two, with Fever's booking fees, every seat zone and the extras that have a published figure, then matched each one to a hotel in our edit that suits couples, with the walk or taxi ride between them.

The short answer
The cheapest seated date night in our set is Candlelight on the balcony of the Church of the Heavenly Rest: $61.56 for two with fees, for an hour of strings among the candles. The one we would book first is the Taylor Swift tribute at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights, Zone B, $104.76 for two on 12 November 2026.
If you want the whole night in one booking, Speakeasy, Die Softly is $279.90 for two with a three-course dinner at Carmine's included; only drinks are extra. Prices were read on Fever on 29 October 2026.

What only this guide tells you
The bill for two, not the price for one
Date-night lists give a from price for one person, often for the cheapest seat on the cheapest date. We read every zone of seven evenings on Fever on the same day, doubled them with Fever's fees included, and added the extras that a primary source puts a number on: Sony Hall's $20 per person food and drink minimum at tables, ARTE MUSEUM's $5 café upgrade, Sony Hall's $65 prix-fixe dinner for its Cuba night. Where a venue sells drinks but publishes no price, we say so rather than guess.
Two things come out of it. The cheapest evenings are not far apart: a seat for two at Candlelight, The Jazz Room, ARTE MUSEUM or Catacombs by Candlelight costs $61.56 to $79.98. And the dearest ticket, Speakeasy, Die Softly at $279.90, is the only one where dinner is already paid for, so it is closer to the others than it looks once you add a meal.
Seven evenings, side by side
What are the best date ideas in New York, and what do they cost for two?
These are the seven evenings we cover in New York, all booked on Fever, priced for two people with Fever's fees. The range runs from the cheapest seat to the best zone, on the dates on sale when we read them.
They split by how the evening feels. At Candlelight and The Jazz Room you sit and listen, for about an hour. At The Jury Experience and Speakeasy, Die Softly you take part: you vote on a verdict, or question suspects across the dinner table. At Sculpture Without Sight you make something, blindfolded, with your hands in clay. ARTE MUSEUM and Catacombs by Candlelight are walks: one through rooms of projected waves and flowers, the other with a guide through the cemeteries and crypts of a 200-year-old cathedral.

| Evening | For two | Length | What's included | How it feels | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Candlelight (St. Ann & the Holy Trinity, Brooklyn Heights; Church of the Heavenly Rest, Upper East Side) | $61.56 to $158.76 | About 60 minutes; 65 for Taylor Swift | A seat in your zone. No food or drink sold, none allowed in | Sit and listen | An early, candlelit hour before dinner |
| The Jazz Room (The Cutting Room, NoMad; Sony Hall, Times Square) | $48.60 standing; $64.80 to $146.88 seated, plus $40 minimum at Sony Hall tables | About 60 minutes | Entry to your zone. Drinks and food bought at the venue | Sit and listen, drink in hand | Couples over 21 who want a bar with the music |
| The Jury Experience: The Killer AI (Roulette, Downtown Brooklyn) | $99.36 to $138.24 | 60 minutes | A seat in your zone and a vote on your phone. No food or drink sold | Take part | Couples who like to argue the verdict over a drink afterwards |
| ARTE MUSEUM (Chelsea Piers) | $79.98 on Fever on a Thursday; $89.98 with ARTE CAFE | About 60 minutes, plus about 15 in the café | Entry at any time to last entry, 19:30. The café ticket adds one drink at an interactive table | Walk and look | A slow, wordless hour before a late dinner |
| Catacombs by Candlelight (Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, Nolita) | $76 | 1 hour 20 minutes | A licensed guide, the cemeteries and the catacombs. Gratuities not included | Walk and listen | A late afternoon tour, then dinner in Little Italy |
| Sculpture Without Sight (Unarthodox, West Chelsea) | $130 | 1 hour 30 minutes | Clay, a blindfold, music and aromatherapy. Drinks bought on site; the sculpture stays | Make something | Couples who want to do something new together, 18 and over |
| Speakeasy, Die Softly (Carmine's, Times Square) | $279.90 | 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes | The show and a three-course family-style dinner. Drinks bought on site | Take part, and eat | The whole night in one booking |
Every zone, priced for two
Which seats are worth paying for at Candlelight, The Jazz Room and The Jury Experience?
Three of the seven sell zones rather than numbered seats: you pay for a block, then take any free seat in it in the order you arrive. The gap between the back and the front is wide, so this is where a couple saves or spends.
At Candlelight, Zone A is about twice Zone C. The balcony at Heavenly Rest looks down over the whole field of candles and is the cheapest seat in the set; at St. Ann's, Zone B is the one we would book, close enough to see the players' hands. At The Jazz Room, every zone at The Cutting Room is seated, from the balcony up. At Sony Hall the cheapest zone is standing room, and Sony Hall's own FAQ lists a $20 per person food and drink minimum at tables, so a seated pair there should budget $40 on top. For the Cuba night, Fever also sells a three-course prix-fixe dinner as an add-on, $65 a head, which makes a seated night $212.08 (Zone B) to $246.64 (VIP) for two with dinner; Sony Hall does not say whether the dinner counts towards the minimum. At The Jury Experience, everyone can see the trial; the zones are graded by view.

| Show and venue | Date read | Cheapest zone | Middle | Best zone | Extra with a published figure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Candlelight: Taylor Swift, St. Ann & the Holy Trinity | 12 November 2026, 18:30 | Zone C $76.68 | Zone B $104.76 | Zone A $158.76 | None: no food or drink on sale |
| Candlelight: Taylor Swift, St. Ann & the Holy Trinity | 21 January 2027, 18:30 | Zone C $84.24 | Zone B $117.72 | Zone A $156.60 | None |
| Candlelight: Queen vs. ABBA, Church of the Heavenly Rest | Cheapest date | Zone C, balcony, $61.56 | Zone B $86.40 | Zone A $137.16 | None |
| The Jazz Room: New Orleans, The Cutting Room | 4 December 2026 and 12 February 2027 | Zone D, balcony, $64.80 | Zone C $97.20; Zone B $118.80 | Zone A $140.40 to $146.88 | None published; drinks and food at the venue |
| The Jazz Room: Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, Sony Hall | 24 January 2027 | Zone C, standing, $48.60 | Zone B $74.52 plus $40 minimum = $114.52 | VIP $104.76 plus $40 minimum = $144.76 | $20 per person food and drink minimum at tables |
| The Jazz Room: Cuba, Sony Hall | 22 November 2026 | Zone C, standing, $54.00 | Zone B $82.08 plus $40 minimum = $122.08 | VIP $116.64 plus $40 minimum = $156.64 | Minimum at tables; prix-fixe dinner $65 each |
| The Jury Experience: The Killer AI, Roulette | 19 December 2026 and 23 January 2027 | Balcony $99.36 | Zone C $112.32; Zone B $125.28 | Zone A $138.24 | None: no food or drink on sale |
Sit and listen: Candlelight or The Jazz Room
Is Candlelight or The Jazz Room better for a date?
Candlelight is the most romantic room for the least money. A string quartet plays an hour of one artist's songs among thousands of flameless candles in a Gothic church, and it is over by 19:35 on an 18:30 night, which leaves the whole evening for dinner. The Taylor Swift tribute at St. Ann's holds 4.8 from 1,510 reviews on Fever, the most of any Candlelight show in New York on 29 October 2026, and plays on 12 November 2026, 21 January 2027 and 19 February 2027. There is nothing to drink inside: Fever allows no food or drink in.
The Jazz Room is the date with a glass in your hand. A live band and singers play an hour of jazz and soul classics, 21 and over. At The Cutting Room in NoMad you sit at candlelit tables in front of the stage, and the bar and kitchen are in the room; Sony Hall near Times Square is the grander, larger hall. Book The Cutting Room for a seat at every price, and budget for the drinks, which the venue prices and we could not read.

- Book one zone for both of youSeats are not numbered. A couple sits together only if both tickets are in the same zone and you arrive together, Fever says.
- Arrive with the doorsCandlelight's doors open 45 minutes before; The Cutting Room's open 60 minutes before. Nobody is let in once either show starts.
- Eat after, not before, on an 18:30 nightBoth formats run about an hour. An 18:30 start puts you at a dinner table by about 20:00.
Take part: The Jury Experience or Speakeasy, Die Softly
What is a fun interactive date night in NYC?
At The Jury Experience the two of you are on the jury. A judge presides, lawyers put their case, witnesses take the stand, and you vote on your own phones at key moments before the final verdict, guilty or not guilty. It lasts an hour, so it pairs with dinner; The Killer AI at Roulette in Downtown Brooklyn, the case we would book, plays on 19 December 2026 and 23 January 2027 at 16:00 and 18:30, from $99.36 for two in the balcony. There is no food or drink on sale, so the arguing happens afterwards.
Speakeasy, Die Softly is the long night. You walk into a 1920s speakeasy in the Sinatra Room at Carmine's on West 44th Street, a murder is revealed, and the cast plays out the case around the tables while a singer and pianist perform; guests can be drawn in as suspects, and awards go to the best dressed and the detective of the night. Carmine's serves a three-course family-style dinner: Caesar salad, penne alla vodka, chicken parmigiana and shrimp scampi, then tiramisu and cannoli. It runs two hours to two and a half, and holds 4.7 from 477 reviews on Fever on 29 October 2026. At $279.90 for two with fees, it is the dearest ticket here and the only one with dinner paid for.

- Charge your phone for the juryYou vote by scanning a QR code shown in the room, on your own smartphone.
- Dress up for the speakeasy if you likeThe organiser encourages 1920s dress but sets no dress code.
- Check your diet before you book Carmine'sThe organiser's FAQ says there are no gluten-free or vegan options; reviewers on Fever say the kitchen handled an allergy.
Make something, or wander: Sculpture Without Sight, ARTE MUSEUM, Catacombs by Candlelight
What are unusual date ideas in New York?
Sculpture Without Sight is the one neither of you will have done before. At Unarthodox's studio on West 27th Street you are shown how to handle clay, do a few sensory warm-ups, then sculpt blindfolded to music and aromatherapy for the rest of the 90 minutes. It is $65 each on Fever with no booking fee, $130 for two, 18 and over, and it holds 4.7 from 665 reviews. Beer and wine are sold on site, to over-21s, and the studio does not allow you to bring your own. The sculpture stays behind: it is a tool for the session, not a souvenir.
ARTE MUSEUM is a slow hour of projected seas, forests and flowers in a pavilion at Chelsea Piers, with sound and scent, and holds 4.7 from 14,101 reviews on Fever, the most of the seven. There are no timed slots: you arrive any time up to the 19:30 last entry and the museum closes at 21:00. On Fever on Thursday 29 October 2026, general admission was $39.99 each with no booking fee, $79.98 for two, a promotion against ARTE's own weekday price of $45. ARTE's price list sets $55 on Fridays and Sundays and $60 on Saturdays and public holidays, so a Saturday evening for two is $120, or $130 with the ARTE CAFE upgrade, a 15-minute stop with one drink each at a table with art projected on it.
Catacombs by Candlelight is a guided tour, 80 minutes, of the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral on Mulberry Street: first its two walled cemeteries, outdoors, then the church and the catacombs beneath it, by candlelight. It is $76 for two with fees and holds 4.6 from 5,701 reviews. It is the one daytime choice here: the organiser runs it from Thursday to Monday, 10:00 to 16:00, so book the 16:00 tour and walk to dinner in Little Italy or Nolita as it gets dark.

An evening plus a hotel for couples
Which New York hotel is best for a romantic night out?
Six hotels in our New York edit list couples among the people they suit: The Fifth Avenue Hotel, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, The William Vale, Nine Orchard, Hotel Chelsea and, for a couple travelling light, citizenM New York Bowery. Each sits close to one of the seven evenings, so you can walk or take a short taxi there and back, and each has a bar of its own to end the night in.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel is an 8-minute walk from The Cutting Room, so The Jazz Room there is the obvious pairing, with a nightcap in the hotel's Portrait Bar, open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. From 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Candlelight at St. Ann's is a 17-minute walk through Brooklyn Heights, and Harriet's Rooftop faces the Lower Manhattan skyline when you get back. Hotel Chelsea is a 17-minute walk from Sculpture Without Sight, with El Quijote's murals and bar downstairs for dinner after. Nine Orchard is an 18-minute walk from Catacombs by Candlelight; its own advice is to reserve the Swan Room, the bar in its 1912 banking hall, when you book the room. The William Vale is 12 minutes by taxi from The Jury Experience at Roulette, with Westlight on the 22nd floor for the verdict post-mortem. And citizenM New York Bowery is the budget pairing: an 8-minute walk to the catacombs, or 12 minutes by taxi to Speakeasy, Die Softly, with the cloudM bar on the roof.

Sculpture Without Sight Experience
$65 each, no booking fee (read 29 October 2026)
Ninety minutes of sculpting blindfolded, side by side, to music and scent: the date idea you will not have tried, 18 and over, in West Chelsea.
The catch
The from price is for one person, on the cheapest date
Every listing shows one ticket in the cheapest zone on the cheapest date. Fever adds a booking fee of about 8% at Candlelight, The Jazz Room and The Jury Experience, $10.95 a ticket at Speakeasy, Die Softly and $2 at Catacombs by Candlelight; ARTE MUSEUM and Sculpture Without Sight showed none.
What to do. Price your own date for two in the calendar before you plan the rest of the night: Candlelight's Taylor Swift Zone B was $52.38 each in November 2026 and $58.86 in 2027.
Sony Hall tables carry a minimum
Sony Hall's FAQ lists a $20 per person food and drink minimum at tables, and its cheapest Jazz Room tickets are standing room.
What to do. Budget $40 on top for two seats at Sony Hall, or book The Cutting Room, where every zone is seated.
Seats go to whoever arrives first
At Candlelight, The Jazz Room and The Jury Experience you buy a zone, not a seat, and no one is let in once the show starts.
What to do. Buy both tickets in one zone, arrive together when the doors open and take the aisle or the front of your block.
Most tickets cannot be refunded
Catacombs by Candlelight sales are final, and the Speakeasy, Die Softly organiser permits no refunds but allows date changes up to 48 hours ahead. Candlelight refunds only with its Flexible Cancellation ticket.
What to do. Book once your date is fixed, or take Candlelight's flexible ticket if it might move.
The catacombs tour is half outdoors and ends by daylight
The first half is in the two walled cemeteries, rain or shine, with no umbrellas on site, and the last tour starts at 16:00. No food, drink or alcohol is allowed.
What to do. Take a coat and an umbrella, and book a table nearby for about 18:00.
