New York in November 2026: what's on, a three-day plan, and where to stay
November is when New York turns from autumn to the holidays: a marathon, two parades, the first skating and markets, and short, cool days that suit an evening show. These are the 2026 dates, the weather we measured, and a three-day plan with one booked evening a day.

The short answer
Come between the Marathon on Sunday 1 November and the week before Thanksgiving, when the holiday shops at Bryant Park are already open and hotels are not yet at their Thanksgiving peak. Expect highs around 12°C (54°F), lows around 4°C (39°F) and sunset before 5pm. Our plan for the weekend of 20 to 22 November books Candlelight's Hans Zimmer night, Speakeasy, Die Softly and The Jazz Room's Cuba night, and the best base for it is Hotel Chelsea, 35 min by taxi in total to the five bookings, with The Fifth Avenue Hotel and The Plaza within three minutes of it.

What only this guide tells you
What we worked out
We put every November date that Fever was selling in New York on 29 October 2026 into one calendar, alongside the city's own fixed dates: the Marathon street-closure notice from the Mayor's office, the Veterans Day Parade from its producers, the parade and market dates from NYC Tourism and Bryant Park. Then we built the three days around the weekend with the most to book, 20 to 22 November, and routed the taxi time from each of our ten New York hotels to the five bookings of the plan. The weather is our own calculation: five Novembers, 2021 to 2025, at Central Park.
What is on in New York in November 2026
What events are in New York in November 2026?
November has three fixed dates that shape a trip, and the holiday season opens around them. The TCS New York City Marathon runs on Sunday 1 November: the Mayor's Office of Citywide Event Coordination has published its street closures for Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November across all five boroughs. The New York City Veterans Day Parade, which its producers, the United War Veterans Council, call the nation's largest, marches on Fifth Avenue on Wednesday 11 November. And the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade runs on Thursday 26 November, from Central Park West at West 77th Street down to Herald Square; NYC Tourism lists it as the 100th, with a record 100 inflatables.
The day before the parade, the balloons are blown up in the streets around the American Museum of Natural History, by Columbus Avenue and West 77th Street. NYC Tourism has listed it as an event in its own right; Macy's publishes the viewing times and entrance closer to the day.
The holiday season starts before Thanksgiving. Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park opened its Holiday Shops and its rink on 28 October 2026: the shops run until 3 January 2027 and the rink until 28 February, open until midnight from 19 November, and skating is free if you bring your own skates and reserve the free ticket. NYC Tourism gives the Union Square and Columbus Circle holiday markets as usually running from early November to 24 December, and the Fifth Avenue windows as usually unveiled in mid-November. The Rockefeller Center tree is usually lit on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, so in 2026 it falls just after November ends.

November weather in New York
What is the weather like in New York in November?
November in New York starts as autumn and ends close to winter. Over the five Novembers from 2021 to 2025, the average high at Central Park was 12.2°C (54°F) and the average low 3.9°C (39°F), but the first ten days averaged 16°C (61°F) and the last ten 9°C (48°F). About eight days in the month had a millimetre of rain or more. The bigger change is the light: the clocks go back on 1 November, and the sun sets at 4.51pm that day and at 4.29pm by the end of the month. Put the walking and the park in the morning, and the booked show in the evening.
| Part of the month | Average high | Average low | Wet days (1 mm or more) | Sunset |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 10 November | 16.0°C (61°F) | 6.6°C (44°F) | 1.4 | 4.51pm on 1 Nov |

| The whole month | 12.2°C (54°F) | 3.9°C (39°F) | 7.8 | 4.29pm on 30 Nov |
Three days in New York in November: the plan
What is a good 3-day New York itinerary for November?
We built the plan around Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November, the weekend before Thanksgiving, because it has a booked show for each night and nothing that closes the streets. Each day stays in one part of the city: uptown on Friday, the West Side and Midtown on Saturday, downtown on Sunday. The mornings are for walking while it is light; each evening has one thing booked.
Book in this order: The Jazz Room's Cuba night first, because it plays on that Sunday only; then Speakeasy, Die Softly, because 21 November is its only Saturday in the month; then the Candlelight concert. ARTE MUSEUM and Catacombs by Candlelight can wait until the week before, though Catacombs by Candlelight sells no refunds, so be sure of the day.

| Day | Morning | Afternoon | Booked evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri 20 Nov: uptown | Central Park from Grand Army Plaza, north along the park | Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue | Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer, Church of the Heavenly Rest, Fifth Avenue at 90th Street, 18:00 |
| Sat 21 Nov: the West Side and Midtown | ARTE MUSEUM at Chelsea Piers at 10:00, then the High Line | Bryant Park Winter Village: the Holiday Shops and the rink | Speakeasy, Die Softly at Carmine's Times Square, 20:00 (also 16:00), dinner included |
| Sun 22 Nov: downtown | Catacombs by Candlelight at Old St. Patrick's, Mulberry Street, 10:00 or 12:00 | Nolita and SoHo, or across the Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO | The Jazz Room: Journey to the Heart of Cuba, Sony Hall by Times Square, 18:30 (also 21:00) |
- Friday: the park while it is lightSunset on 20 November is at about 4.33pm, and the Hans Zimmer concert starts at 18:00 on Fifth Avenue at 90th Street, facing the park. Spend the day on the east side of Central Park and the museums along Fifth Avenue, and the concert is at the end of the walk. Zone C, at the back, was 48.06 dollars with fees for this date on 29 October 2026.
- Saturday: ARTE MUSEUM at opening timeARTE MUSEUM opens at 10:00 and its tickets have no time slot, so the first hour is the quiet one. Saturday is its dearest day: 54.99 dollars for an adult on 29 October 2026, against 39.99 Monday to Thursday. Then walk the High Line, and leave the late afternoon for Bryant Park. Speakeasy, Die Softly opens its doors 30 minutes before the 20:00 start, and dinner is part of the show, so do not eat first.
- Sunday: underground first, then musicCatacombs by Candlelight spends its first half outdoors in the walled cemeteries, rain or shine, and then goes below the church. Check in 15 minutes before your slot at 266 Mulberry Street, not at St. Patrick's on Fifth Avenue. The Cuba night at Sony Hall is 21 and over; the cheapest ticket, 27 dollars, is standing room, and a seat starts at 41.04.

Where to stay for this plan
Where should I stay in New York in November?
The plan's five bookings are spread from 90th Street to Mulberry Street, and the three evenings all sit in the middle and top of Manhattan. We routed a taxi from each of our ten hotels to all five. Hotel Chelsea, on West 23rd Street, comes out best at 35 min in total: ARTE MUSEUM is 4 minutes away, Carmine's and Sony Hall 5, and the catacombs 7; only Friday's concert uptown takes longer, at 14. It is also the cheapest of the three front-runners in our records, from about 510 dollars a night with no resort or destination fee.
The three best bases are within three minutes of each other. The Fifth Avenue Hotel in NoMad comes to 37 minutes. The Plaza, on Central Park South, comes to 38 and is the one to choose if you want the park across the road on Friday morning and the Hans Zimmer concert a straight 8-minute run up Fifth Avenue; The Carlyle, 4 minutes from the church, suits an uptown-heavy trip. If you are coming for the Candlelight nights in Brooklyn Heights on 12 to 14 November instead, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is 4 minutes from St. Ann & the Holy Trinity, and The Beekman 6.

What we would buy

Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer
From 48.06 dollars with fees on 20 November (Fever, 29 October 2026)
Friday's booked evening: Hans Zimmer's film music, from Inception and Interstellar to Gladiator, played by a string quartet among candles in the Church of the Heavenly Rest on Fifth Avenue, facing Central Park. About an hour, at 18:00 on 20 November. Rated 4.7 from 944 reviews on Fever.

Speakeasy, Die Softly at Carmine's
139.95 dollars with fees, dinner included (Fever, 29 October 2026)
Saturday's booked evening and dinner in one: a 1920s murder mystery played around your table in Carmine's Sinatra Room, with a singer, a pianist and a three-course family-style Italian meal. Two to two and a half hours; rated 4.7 from 477 reviews. Drinks are extra.

The Jazz Room: Journey to the Heart of Cuba
From 27 dollars standing, 41.04 seated, with fees (Fever, 29 October 2026)
Sunday's booked evening, and a one-off: an hour of Cuban son, bolero and salsa, from Chan Chan to La Vida es un Carnaval, at Sony Hall a block from Times Square, on 22 November only. 21 and over; book a seat if you want to sit for the hour.
The catch
Thanksgiving week is the dear week
New York's hotels run full in the autumn: CoStar reported New York City at 89.4 per cent occupancy in October 2025, the highest of the 25 largest US markets. Our own records for our hotels show the same season in the price: The Carlyle's entry room runs about 1,950 to 2,150 dollars a night from October to early December against 1,200 to 1,500 in January and February, and The Fifth Avenue Hotel up to about double its January rate. NYC Tourism says the parade typically draws millions of spectators, so the week of 26 November is the one to book earliest.
What to do. Fix the hotel before the shows. If the parade is not the point of your trip, the weekend before Thanksgiving gives you the markets and the rink without the parade crowds.
Marathon Sunday closes the roads
The City's notice for 1 November 2026 closes First Avenue from 59th Street to the Willis Avenue Bridge from 7am to 10.30pm, Fifth Avenue from 120th to 90th Street from 9am to 7.30pm, Central Park South from 8.30am to 6.30pm and 59th Street between Columbus Circle and Fifth Avenue from 6am to 9pm. In Brooklyn, Fourth Avenue, Lafayette Avenue and Bedford Avenue through Williamsburg close from 6.30am or 7am to 6.30pm, and the Queensboro Bridge's lower level from 6.30am to 5.30pm. Closures roll and can change at the NYPD's discretion.
What to do. Do not plan a taxi across the course that day: use the subway, or arrive on Monday.
The days are short
The clocks go back on 1 November, and the sun sets before 5pm all month, at 4.29pm by the end of it. Catacombs by Candlelight spends its first half outdoors, rain or shine.
What to do. Put the park, the High Line and the bridge in the morning, and save the booked shows for the dark.
