Which room to book at The Fifth Avenue Hotel
The Corner King. It is the same 375 sq ft (35 m²) as the Grand King, with the same desk and 65 inch television, but it sits on a corner of the tower with windows along two walls, and on a January night it cost $150 more than the NoMad Queen. Below it the ladder moves a few square feet at a time; above it everything is a suite, and the 1907 bank starts at $2,065.

Why this one
The six tower rooms run from 225 to 375 sq ft, and every one has a marble bathroom with a walk-in shower, the same butler, the same twice-daily housekeeping and the same free Maxibar. The first four sit close together: on Tuesday 26 January 2027 the NoMad Queen was $895 for 225 sq ft (21 m²), the City King $925 for 285, and the NoMad Twin and NoMad King $945 for 290 and 300. The step that changes the stay is to 375 sq ft (35 m²), where the Grand King and the Corner King add 75 sq ft over the NoMad King, a desk and a 65 inch television. Between those two, $50 buys the corner: the hotel's floor plan puts windows along two walls, and the room is sold on natural light and views over NoMad.
Above the Corner King the ladder stops improving the bedroom. The Studio Suite at $1,395 adds a living room and a sofa bed rather than a better place to sleep, and still has only a shower; no room or suite in the tower has a bath. The bank itself begins at $2,065 with The Mansion Suite Double, two queens, a soaking tub and heated floors, which earns its price for a family of four and costs a couple twice the Corner King. For two people staying a few nights, the Corner King is where the ladder stops being a compromise.
- Ask for
- The hotel publishes no floor or orientation for its corner rooms, so ask at booking which way yours faces and how high it is; the two walls of windows are the reason to pay for it. If you want a bath, do not ask for one in the tower, because none has one: book a Mansion suite.
- Avoid
- The NoMad Queen for two people staying more than a night or two: 225 sq ft (21 m²), a queen bed and windows on one wall. The Studio Suite Terrace if space is the point, because it is 40 sq ft smaller inside than the Studio Suite for $400 more. And any tower category if a bath matters.
Suites against rooms
Two suites are worth singling out. The Mansion Suite Double, at $2,065 on the same January night, is the cheapest way to sleep in McKim, Mead & White's bank: 575 sq ft (53 m²) with two queen beds, a soaking tub, heated floors and a double vanity, for up to four. For a family it puts the old building and the bath in one booking.
The Fifth Avenue Suite, at $3,065, is the one with the avenue in the window: 795 sq ft (74 m²) behind floor-to-ceiling windows, with a separate living room, a queen sofa bed, a soaking tub and heated floors. Above it the Signature Suites and the Flâneur Penthouse are about outdoor space: the Topiary Suite has 750 sq ft (70 m²) of planted terrace, and the penthouse, on a rooftop floor rebuilt above the bank, has a 900 sq ft (84 m²) wraparound terrace with a Japanese soaking tub.

Our verdict
Book it for the bank, the restaurant in its banking hall and the service every room gets, and pay up to The Corner King for the light. Sleeping inside the 1907 building itself starts at a Mansion suite.
