Sculpture Without Sight is made by Unarthodox, an art-experience studio in West Chelsea that also runs painting nights inspired by Picasso, Monet and Basquiat. You book it on Fever. You check in with the ticket in the Fever app, check your bag and coat, and staff take you to your seat, where you can order a drink before it starts. Smocks are provided, and Unarthodox says it is not a messy class, so you can come dressed for a night out.

The host introduces the idea, takes the room through warm-up exercises and shows you how to handle and place the clay. Then the blindfolds go down. Unarthodox says the sculpting runs about 50 minutes of the 90, to a curated playlist with aromatherapy in the air, and the photos on the listing show what you work on: a clay head on a board in front of you, which you build a face onto by touch. Unarthodox is clear that this is not a pottery workshop; the point is to work by feel rather than by sight, and no art experience is needed.

Then the blindfolds come off and you see, for the first time, what your hands made. Staff take an official portrait of you with your sculpture and photograph the class as it works; Unarthodox says the portrait is emailed within 24 hours, followed by a link to a private album and a code for a future Unarthodox event. You can take your own photos of select moments, but not film the whole session.

What you make stays in the studio. Unarthodox's own pages say the sculptures are a tool for the exercise, are not fired, and dry and crack within the hour; they are not for sale either. The listing is 18 and over with ID, the studio is fully wheelchair accessible with a lift and accessible restrooms, and on 29 October 2026 Fever had nine dates on sale up to 29 November 2026, mostly Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Why this one

With 4.7 from 665 reviews on Fever on 29 October 2026, it has many times the reviews of the other art classes Fever suggests alongside it, and it is the only one of them done blindfolded. Unarthodox's other nights on Fever are painting classes with far fewer reviews: A Night With Picasso held 4.8 from 84 and Urban Canvas, a Basquiat-inspired self-portrait night, 4.9 from 11, each 55 dollars on Fever that day. RESOBOX's Japanese Ink Painting Class in the East Village held 4.7 from 54 at 60 dollars. If you want a piece to hang at home, one of those suits you better; if you want the sensory evening, this is it.

Buying direct is not cheaper. Unarthodox sells the same class on its own booking system at 65 dollars plus New York sales tax of 8.875 percent and a card fee of 3.5 percent, 72.72 dollars all in on 29 October 2026; Fever showed 65 dollars with no booking fee the same day. ARTE Museum at Chelsea Piers is the art pick for those who would rather look than make. The studio is a short taxi ride or a 17-minute walk from Hotel Chelsea.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • A calm, almost spa-like evening that takes people out of their heads
  • Warm, attentive hosts and a well-dressed room
  • Works for beginners and practising artists alike, alone or with company

Complaints

  • Disappointment that the sculpture cannot be taken home

The catch

  1. The sculpture stays in the studio

Unarthodox says the sculptures are a tool for the exercise: the clay is not fired, dries and cracks within the hour, and the heads are not for sale. The keepsakes are the official portrait and the album of photos staff take during the class.

What to do. Go for the evening, not the object, and take your own photo at the reveal.

  2. Arrive early: late means no entry

The class starts on time. Unarthodox does not admit guests more than 15 minutes late and treats the ticket as used.

What to do. Aim to be there 15 minutes before the start; from Hotel Chelsea it is a 3-minute taxi ride or a 17-minute walk.

  3. Fix your date before you book

Unarthodox's terms say sales are final, with one reschedule per ticket for 15 dollars if asked at least 4 hours ahead; the Fever listing gives no refund terms of its own.

What to do. Book once your plans are firm, and contact Fever as early as you can if they change.

  4. Ten is the largest party in a public class

Unarthodox's terms cap a single party at 10 in its public classes; bigger groups are run as private events with the studio to themselves.

What to do. For a team outing or a big birthday, ask Unarthodox for a private event rather than buying a block of public tickets.

  5. No bottle of your own

It is not BYOB, outside food and drink are not allowed, and Unarthodox says it does not sell liquor; drinks are on sale at the studio.

What to do. Eat before or after; the class is 90 minutes, so a 19:00 start is out around 20:30.
